August 3, 201113 yr What on earth has Alanis done of note in this century? Why, the SMASH #99 hit that was Underneath :D
August 3, 201113 yr Author 6 1 Lady Gaga 671 Highest Position: 1 (CHRIS, Chart Wizard, Klumzee) Bitch Slap(s): 6 (THEO, Lovett, Nick F1, Lukuzz, Lee Wallace, Superbass) Number of Votes: 34 Most Known Hits: Poker Face, Bad Romance, Just Dance http://images.starpulse.com/news/media/Lady-Gaga-jet-2.jpg I couldn't go away without one MAJOR shock. Kept out of the top 5 by 1 point, Queen Gaga falls from her perch all the way down to #6. She received the most Bitch Slaps from the voters and even with those deducted points added to her total would've only have mustered a very distant 3rd place this year. I think part of the problem is that the hype is fading fast. Whilst opening to more than a million sales in the US and more than 200,000 units in the UK 'Born This Way' is not a patch on her earlier material. I find the majority of songs offputting. The album is very experimental and the glam-rock influences are evident despite the tracks being covered with the typical electro-pop coating. Other than 'Hair', 'Government Hooker' and 'Edge of Glory', I'm not really that impressed. Gaga of course shot to fame back in 2008 with 'Just Dance'. Hit after hit followed from her massive selling 'Fame/Fame Monster' combination. The album has not left the UK top 75 since its release back in Jan 2009! She's made the biggest impact on the pop scene for the best part of a decade, even if current sales are not as huge as her debut. I think she still has the potential to have a long and successful career but will never quite match the status of her debut era again. People seemed to have bored of her constant outfits and crazy acts and videos (as evident by the under performance of 'Judas'). Negativity aside and Gaga is still one of the most innovating and interesting pop artists to emerge for quite some time and despite divided opinion over her current record is still amongst if not the most prominent female singer currently active. August 3, 201113 yr Author 'Underneath' was a gem! Alanis did kinda tank rather quickly after 'Jagged Little Pill' though, which is such a shame because all of her albums are brilliant.
August 3, 201113 yr 'Underneath' was a gem! Alanis did kinda tank rather quickly after 'Jagged Little Pill' though, which is such a shame because all of her albums are brilliant. Indeed it is, Underneath is a superb piece of music  I think most people were expecting some sort of Jagged Little Pill pt.2 but she wanted to evolve her music and do different things. I for one think she got better as she released her albums, except a dip in quality from Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie.
August 3, 201113 yr Her music isnt influential, her image is far from influential. She just does great safe pop/dance tracks. That is all. 'Slave 4 U' wasn't safe. 'Toxic' wasn't safe at the time of release. Neither was the whole 'In The Zone' album. And her IMAGE wasn't influential? I really can't. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sno5DBtogPY/TWV6dZ5nCmI/AAAAAAAAAJQ/glDTX1ubadI/s400/bb.jpg http://thequickanddirtydirty.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/slave_4_u.jpg http://0.tqn.com/d/top40/1/0/B/_/britneymadonna.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_QnqiRAzSw5k/TQJq59bu_rI/AAAAAAAAEkE/1wkSLM0mFww/s400/britney1.jpg m5Qrk3OYn_U WHAT A FLACID STATEMENT. I for one think she got better as she released her albums, except a dip in quality from Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie. Nah JLP is one of my favourite albums ever. Probably in the top 3! The singles alone are amongst some of the best songs of the 1990s but even the album tracks are superb. I remember my dad used to play it all the time though which is probably why I rate it so highly  I really loved SFIJ. 'Baba' repulsed me though. It was the only weak link for me on the whole record though. Is she ever planning to release new material?
August 3, 201113 yr Born This Way is a fantastic record but I'm feeling quite disillusioned with regards to Gaga at the minute. I'm not sure what it is. Probably the combination of extremely hit and miss performances from this era with more misses than hits, the disappointing/dreadful Edge Of Glory video, the general overexposure and some truly hideous fashion choices coming from somebody who has built half of her career on wearing iconic outfits. Still she's obviously an incredibly talented popstar who'll be around ages, it's just weird that as her albums become bigger hits from the off she herself seems to be using up all of the goodwill she has.
August 3, 201113 yr OUCH at Gaga. People really are getting sick of her now, aren't they? I still love you Gaga :kink:
August 3, 201113 yr Her music isnt influential, her image is far from influential. She just does great safe pop/dance tracks. That is all. Have to disagree the arrival of Britney introduced so many copycat identikit singers Christina, Mandy Moore, Jessica Simpson. Some of her songs are amoungst the best and most recognised pop songs ever Hit me One More Time, Oops I did it Again,Toxic. Her video images from the school girl look, leather catsuit snake accessory are iconic. She certainly does not have the best voice but she has had a 10 year career of many important pop moments. Glad Gaga is not No 1, her image is everything this era with too many mediocre songs.

JLP is a fab album but my favourite by her is Flavors of Entanglement  If she had put Superstar Wonderful Weirdoes and No Avalon (unreleased demos) on JLP then it would probably be my fave. Baba is amazing :o How dare you :P I enjoy SFIJ, the evil laugh at the start of Would Not Come especially  From what I read, she had begun recording new music before having her baby. I also read that she is going 'urban' and working with her hubby on stuff.
August 3, 201113 yr I don't think finishing up 6th and dropping five places means people are getting sick of her, that would be Cheryl Cole :kink:

Slave for your I suppose was but Toxic, no way, its just a standard pop track. Nothing groundbraking. And as her those images you posted. Sex, school girl, lesboan kiss. Becuase they havnt been used before lol. Nothing influential about them at all. Sex has been used for decades.

Becuase they havnt been used before lol. Nothing influential about them at all. Sex has been used for decades. Go look at the landscape of music in 2003 and go listen to 'In The Zone'. Sex will be used forever, it doesn't make her less influential over her generation! Your argument makes no since at all, no where did I discuss the nature of originality in her scheme of publicity stunts. However the acts themselves are original. Everything in pop music is related to sex in some manner in 98% of the cases we could discuss about iconic moments in pop culture. So your argument makes absolutely no sense at all.

August 3, 201113 yr I love a good LOON FIGHT :D You can call it loon fighting. But his argument is f***ing stupid.

My point is actually quite simple and makes a lot of sence. Just not to you becuase I dont agree with your statement. That does not make my point any less important or valid than yours. Im a Brtney fan and have all of her albums since "In the zone" but ive never held her up to any high regard when it came to her talent etc. She does great pop and thats all she is to me. The acts you depicted in the pics are not original at all. Wearing a school uniform in a video. Lesban kiss on stage. These are not original. Just high profile becuase it is britney.

I do agree with you, that Britney has been rather influential but I don't think that using 'Toxic' is the best example as I don't feel that 'Toxic', despite being one of her biggest hits and one of her best songs, was very influential or anything that inspired many copycats at the time. Its undoubtfully a great pop track, but so were a lot of the songs around then. She was very influential in pop in the beginning of her career, with 'HMBOMT', 'OIDIA' ect. but I think her influence had dwindled by the point of 'Toxic', despite her being a massive popstar and being the top of her game, at that point it was just good music, nothing else.
August 3, 201113 yr You can call it loon fighting. But his argument is f***ing stupid. Is there any need for that kind of language just because someone doesnt agree with you. And this is hardly an arguement. Its a discussion regarding two different views on an artist
