August 3, 201113 yr I get the feeling Adele or Katy will be next. Or even Rihanna. It better not be Beyonce...
August 3, 201113 yr Britney had better be next... out of all the top 10 I'd back GaGa, which is odd given how Madonna basically provided the blueprint for most of her career so far and has obviously a far bigger discography.
August 3, 201113 yr Out of who's left, it would HAVE to be Rihanna or Adele to win for me. Britney 3rd and then NONE of the others even top ten!
August 3, 201113 yr Impressive that Kelly is still so high but there really is no arguing with a VOICE like that. Possibly the best singer out of all the women in this list? I think All I Ever Wanted (whilst have numerous brilliant songs) was more like a backwards-side-step than a progression but she told the label she'd do the album they wanted her to do if she could do the one she wanted to do first, so that's what happened. I think the new material sounds excellent. Rock-pop isn't exactly in vogue at the minute but I think she can make a success of it. Especially now she's lost a little of that weight.
August 3, 201113 yr Author Out of who's left, it would HAVE to be Rihanna or Adele to win for me. Britney 3rd and then NONE of the others even top ten! REALLY? P!nk is FANTASTIC. She always gets sidelined by all the others imo when it comes to critics and media attention and whatnot. Maybe I'm just being biased. I personally like all of the remaining 7 to differing levels though. She, Gaga and Beyonce had done a heck of a lot for music recently too. Nowhere near as much as the classic female stars but they have certainly been crucial in creating the platform for 21st century music alongside Britney and Amy Winehouse as well as continued contributions from Kylie, Madonna et al. Also Imma sick of my dissertation atm so I'm trying to think of some other competitions. If y'all have any ideas... Edited August 3, 201113 yr by GrAmii

Also Imma sick of my dissertation atm so I'm trying to think of some other competitions. If y'all have any ideas... I don't think Britney has contributed much to music. It's more her image that's most defining. Even from her debut, the schoolgirl in the uniform was far more noticeable than her actual musical output. Same goes for the whole purity/virgin image and then later on the "good girl gone bad" image (and no I'm not getting Britney mixed up with Rihanna). However, I do agree with you about Pink being criminally underrated. She is pretty much the mother of 21st Century Pop/Rock. Kelly Clarkson and Katy Perry both followed on from Pink imo.
August 3, 201113 yr Beyonce I can cope with in the top ten actually, forgot about her. I've only really liked a select few Pink songs and Katy Perry I cannot STAND so I certainly wouldn't rate them this highly

Britney's has been by far one of the most influential women in pop, in the past ten years WITH her music. Slave 4 u was a total game changer. Same with 'toxic' and the majority of In The Zone... In which, she has majority writing credits and some production. The same can be said with 'Blackout'... Even though the latter is not as rich with Britney's technical input. However, Her past two albums have been lacking on the pioneer front, besides 'How I Roll' and 'Inside Out'. Edited August 3, 201113 yr by Tyler
August 3, 201113 yr Author Problem with Britney is she became bigger than her music. Not by her own means but certainly the media have played a huge part in creating her as some form of tabloid royalty. People just don't seem that fussed about the music nowadays. I definitely think she made the biggest impact on the pop scene since Madonna in terms of female singers anyway, even if she has now been replaced by Gaga, Beyonce, Rihanna et all.

August 3, 201113 yr Always nice to see some Kelly appreciation. 'Breakaway' and dare I say it, 'My December' aswell, were both brilliant albums. I fully agree that the last album was a step-back and too much of a desperate attempt to re-capture the success she once had. A fantastic voice of course, and I remain excited for her ever delayed, ever pushed back next album. I do think she herself would be much happier if away from a major label really though, her tweets suggest she's still as fed up as ever.

People just don't seem that fussed about the music nowadays. Sad but true. Fortunately this only seems to be the major case in the UK. She is more succesful then ever in America, Canada and South America. She just needs to promote her material in Europe... Obviously there is still interest as 'Womanizer' went top 3 with the small amount of promo it got, and 'Circus' went on to be platinum. '3' was a top ten hit for her over there and so was 'Hold It Against Me'... both just off the back of a music video. And even though 'TTWE' hasn't lit up the charts it still has sold 130k, despite only peaking at #21. I wouldn't count her out though as being forgotten in the UK. I think this is just a wake up call to her and her team that she just can't coast along with nothing but tours and music videos, like she can over here. I definitely think she made the biggest impact on the pop scene since Madonna in terms of female singers anyway, even if she has now been replaced by Gaga, Beyonce, Rihanna et all. Britney has been a lot more successful then Beyonce in the USA... and pretty much up to par with Rihanna on the singles and albums front. But yes in the UK it's true. Bitch needs to WORK.
August 3, 201113 yr Author Anywaysio. Here is the highest new entry this year :) 7 NE Adele 609 Highest Position: 2 Bitch Slap(s): 2 (CHRIS, LaLa2586) Number of Votes: 34 Most Known Hits: Rolling In The Deep, Someone Like You, Make You Feel My Love http://www.musichouses.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Adele.jpg The points were much higher this year due to more voters and the amount of females you could vote for so over 600 we goeth. Undoubtedly the biggest global star of 2011 is Adele. She burst onto the scene in 2008, amidst a heap of critical praise only to be overshadowed by the quite awful Duffy. Regardless, Adele built up a name for herself on an international level winning two awards at the 2009 Grammys. Her debut album '19' spawned four chart singles including 'Chasing Pavements' and a cover of Bob Dylan's 'Make You Feel My Love'. This hit became crucial for the barrage of promotion that proceeded her 2011 follow up '21. Whored to death by the X Factor last year and reaching a new peak on the charts nearly two years after it's original release, Adele was boosted firmly back into the spotlight when she smashed in at #2 back in Jan this year with 'Rolling In The Deep'. Since then '21' has been unstoppable, the world over, outselling every other album released this year by miles in most territories. 'Someone Like You' received a stunning BRITS performance and raced to #1 in the UK becoming the first track to top a million sales in a calendar year since 2005. '21' could pass 10,000,000 global sales by the end of 2011, an amazing feat in the current albums climate. It's shocking that the singer didn't even feature in the countdown last year which just goes to show how much the current music scene has impacted the voting this year. That aside, '21' is definitely a once in a generation type record and it is well deserved of it's mammoth success. FlsBObg-1BQ
August 3, 201113 yr Author Four of last year's top 5 remain (Beyonce, Gaga, P!nk and Rihanna). Britney moves up from #8 and Katy Perry from #12. More tomorrow ^_^

August 3, 201113 yr Influential - LOL Popular - Yes Please explain to me how her crossover with her third and fourth albums were NOT influential in this generation of pop music? Don't be ignorant. You act as if I am trying to call her MOZART or something, whether or not it was her doing or she was used as a vessel... the music was influential and so was her image.

Her music isnt influential, her image is far from influential. She just does great safe pop/dance tracks. That is all.
