I included the winner situation because that's the most important. It goes without saying that they apply to all ties! :P

We have made a few adjustments to the rules ahead of the 46th edition of the contest, nothing drastic, but here is a summary of the changes:

Cover versions

Cover versions of previous BJSC entries are now allowed, however they have to be significantly different to the version entered previously and have to be an inspired choice of entry (ie. not cheap!). The moderators will judge this during the vetoing process.

Cover versions of Eurovision entries remain banned as do all previous and forthcoming entries into the Eurovision Song Contest.

Songs which sample previous BJSC entries are also now allowed, but songs which heavily sample previous BJSC entries may be vetoed.

Guideline to the veto process:

The categories which may cause a track to be vetoed have also been updated. The following criteria is published as a gage for participants to weigh up the likelihood of an entry being banned:

* The artist/song is currently or has recently (within the last 12 months) been in the UK Top 40 Singles Chart

* The song is on a current Radio 1 playlist (any playlist published just prior to or during the confirmation period)

* The song has received substantial radio, internet and/or TV exposure.

* The song is a fresh leak or forthcoming single by an artist with a significant following on Buzzjack.

* The song is by an artist, or associated act with an Artist Forum on Buzzjack.

* The song is in the Multichart during the week/s in which the confirmation process is open.

* The song has performed significantly well in another contest on the forum, eg. Unknown Pleasures.

* The song is a similar sounding cover version or contains a heavily used sample of a previous BJSC entry

An entry may also be vetoed for another reason not listed above. If this is the case, an explanation will be given as to why it has been banned.

The new additions to the criteria are marked in bold.

We are not saying that EVERY song that falls into one or more of the categories will be banned as we review each entry individually, but if you are going to attempt to send something which comes under one of them then there is an increased chance of it being vetoed.

Hosting duties:

Nothing major, we just want to let hosts know that when sending the confirmation list, the country information should be missing. The moderators should only be sent artist and song information and Youtube links if possible.

In the interests of clarity, we'd also like it if full scoreboards for the semi finals and final be posted at the end of the results. 99% of the time this is the case, but we've added it into the rules update anyway.

Thanks!

Thanks for updating us, that should make things a lot more clearer for us! :D

The song has received substantial radio, internet and/or TV exposure.
Does this mean that all songs from a "certain" blog will not be allowed, or will each song be judged individually on the number of blogs it has been on?

* The song is in the Multichart during the week/s in which the confirmation process is open.

Just to confirm, if a song is on the multichart, it will definitely be vetoed? And it is not up to the moderators judgement in any way?

Thanks :D

Oh yes! Thanks for pointing that out, I should have read thoroughly!

Yeah, we review each song individually so if you were to send something off "that certain blog" for example, it may not be vetoed, but if a song has received a substantial amount of internet hype, it might be banned.
Hmm not sure whether my entry for next contest is going to be allowed :( The song itself isn't cheap, just the artist might be a bit too well-known on here

Rules:

Confirmation of entries:

- Every edition of BJSC commences with a confirmation thread. This is when you must submit your desired entry to the host of that edition. Please wait until the thread has opened before submitting your entry.

Bolded section added to make it clearer for newcomers.

Registration won't stay closed forever ^_^

Any indication of when it'll reopen? I've had my country ready for ages :teresa:

I am hopeful we can get it open in time for BJSC 51 in January.

Surely all that's involved in re-opening registration is unlocking the thread and making one post? This post makes it sound like a lot of work needs to be put into it

Well Ryan's contest was smaller but it might have been a fluke. I think the mods will want to see how the November contest does numbers-wise before making a decision?

Highly doubt it as two more countries are now banned from the November contest. I don't see why the cap should be on still now after having only around 44 (I think?) participants last contestl

And a couple will be having their ban lifted. Jake and Nick will probably be back too, we could easily go over 50 again.
The low turnout for BJSC49 was a little odd but previous to that we did have a very high number, so the 'halt' on registration was needed. I think it's best to keep it closed until January, that way we can see if October's turnout was a fluke or not.
I was more wondering why there is a cap on numbers at all. I'm sure this has been discussed many times but I must not have been looking in the right threads!
I think keeping the system we have but letting more and more people join would be a nightmare. We think the most logical solution would be to keep the two semi-finals, but increase the amount of countries in the final 40 at most. But with that we'd have to introduce the 18-point system to the final (and to the semi-finals, if needed). We haven't had the need for this yet, but if the numbers do go back to normal (i.e. above 50) and we reopen registrations then this will probably be the route we'll have to take. We will definitely know by the end of November what we'll have to do. ^_^
