Alone and 99 Luftballoons, both are great. I prefer the German version to the English one which was quite big in the US

The English translation just never quite.... gelled tbh.... Some German words just cant translate into English very well, and it showed... Of course, it's even worse when Rammstein and Unheilig lyrics are translated into English.....

As for "Alone", I'm pretty convinced a young Amy Lee had that video on repeat for years.......

Have Rammstein released something in English?

They actually did do a version of "Du Hast" in English... And it was shit......

You do see a lot of English translations for Rammstein lyrics online generally....

Definitely

However, I can't really work out if I like 'Alone' or not. Sometimes when I listen to it, it's great. Other times it just comes across REALLY cheesy... Much prefer 'Barracuda' myself, I love the riff and Ann's vocals.

If these are considered to be 'guilty pleasures', god knows what mine are...!

Well here's a few of mine (these are truly guilty pleasures):

Tiffany - I Think We're Alone Now

I know this is naff in the extreme but I have too many memories of singing this while drunk with all my mates, royally pissing off everybody else in the pub.

Van Halen - Why Can't This Be Love

And it's not even got Diamond Dave singing on it.

John Parr - St. Elmo's Fire

Nope can't defend this one either. Loved the movie it came from.

Trio - Da Da Da

I was absolutely hooked on this in 1982.

Toyah - Thunder in the Mountains

Toyah was my favourite female singer when I was about 12.

Still reckon someone will cover The Vow and get a massive hit with it.

Sorry Trio is a dire record IMO- good job you haven't read my reviews of the No 2 hits of the 80s!!

I have and you're wrong! :) This coming from the person who gave Spagna a decent review!

No, really I know it's shit but there is something about this low rent Kraftwerk on a 10p budget that I love.

I'm not the only one:

My favourite version of I Think We're Alone Now was by Lene Lovich, on her Stateless album from 1979..... brilliant.

Human League - fascination.

I wasn't around for the 80's but compared to todays standards i'd say this is a great pop song, maybe back then though this was considered a cheesey guilty pleasure?

Not really to be honest, however if you said The Lebanon or Louise then they would be guilty pleasures (and I really like The Lebanon in spite of (or maybe because of!) the incredibly duff lyrics.)

My last post got me a couple of other ideas

Here's The Lebanon

and here's another flop follow up to a mega selling album

ABC - That Was Then But This Is Now

A Flock of seagulls - Wishing

Aztec Camera - Oblivious

Teardrop Explodes - Reward

XTC - Senses working overtime

Headgirl - Please don't touch

Grandmaster Flash - White lines / The Message

The Associates - Party fears two

The Look - I am the beat

All superb early 80's songs. Shame the decade went downhill from about 85 onwards...........

Out of Phil's list only Headgirl and possibly A Flock of Seagulls are guilty pleasures (I love Wishing!) while the others are stone cold classics IMO (apart from The Look).

Whereas Starship is just cheese but it's oh so definitely a guilty pleasure!
