May 14, 201213 yr Author I'm not going to spoiler as it's a US pace thread. I thought it was very fitting them all moving off the lane, added a certain kind of realistic poignancy. So many friends in life do just come and go, so close for weeks, months or years and then gone from your life. I could certainly relate to it (I am a bust ass friend). Then also the cycle of people moving and keeping secrets in suburbia. It really was what Desperate Housewives was about.
May 14, 201213 yr The final scene with the new neighbour and her secret was of course very fitting, but in an unfortunate kind of way - the show's obsession with a 'mystery' is partly to blame for its declining quality over the seasons if you ask me. Mary Alice's mystery unfolded in a natural way whilst making a statement about how the people you think you know, think you can call friends, are often as much a mystery as the stranger in the street. But then subsequent mysteries became more tacky and sensationalist just for the sake of having a thread running through the season. Often it didn't work and by the end it was playing out like a bad parody. So whilst it was cleverly self-referential it's a shame they couldn't have referenced something with a bit more depth. Neither Bree, Lynette nor Gaby's epilogues were interesting or even really had anything to do with their characters. Gaby's entire arc on the show was undone with some superficial shit about a shopping channel. Bree was already long ruined but why should anybody care that she became senator or whatever it was? And Lynette being a CEO just got a shrug out of me. In fairness I haven't watched this season bar a couple of eps at the start but I was disappointed they put her back with Tom. Marc Cherry strikes me as quite clueless. It's almost amazing to me that this is the same man who wrote one of the best pilot episodes in television history... All of that said, Susan's scene with the ghosts watching on illicited goosebumps. Beautifully done. Edited May 14, 201213 yr by ✞✞✞
June 3, 201213 yr All of that said, Susan's scene with the ghosts watching on illicited goosebumps. Beautifully done. I agree, I'd say the best scene of Season 8. Must have tried stopping myself crying at least 3 times in that last episode.
June 3, 201213 yr Kathryn Joosten (Mrs M) sadly died yesterday, aged 72. Lung cancer unfortunately got the better of her. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-18313427 It's so commendable that she asked Marc to write her illness into the show to raise awareness. It just makes her final scenes all the more unbearable though. So sad. R.I.P Edited June 3, 201213 yr by PaulM1983
