Posted August 1, 200618 yr Its considered Nelly's poorest album in terms of sales and recognition but personally for me its her best work by MILES. To see the talent of Ms Furtado you really have to listen to this album. She totally sold-out on 'Loose' imo. Watching the videos for 'Try' and then 'Promiscuous' showed me how she's gone down the wrong path. Don't get me wrong, 'Loose' is excellent at what it does but I just don't see it as HER. This new album seems to be bringing her new 'chavvy' fans who are just ignorant to her past masterpiece -_- I mean she's had to totally had to overhaul her image and get dance lessons as well as singing songs about anonymous sex, what is she doing? With the current success of 'Loose' I don't see the real Nelly coming back anytime soon :(
August 1, 200618 yr IMO, as an album, I prefer Loose to Folklore. Although Folklore contains Try which is definately one of her best songs ever and Powerless which is just amazing everytime you hear it. I don't get the same feeling with any of the songs on Loose but I think as an overall album, Loose is stronger.
August 1, 200618 yr Author 'Loose' is EXCELLENT at what its trying to do but its been designed to sell to the US, I just don't see the same heart in it as was the case with 'Folklore' and this 'Loose' style clearly isn't her either :( IMO 'Loose' has duff tracks on it LMHD and DI to name to two, to me 'Folklore' had non.
August 1, 200618 yr i can never decide between her 3 albums. But i think Folklore is just amazing. Explode- why wasnt that a single. Whoa Nelly she was so fresh. Loose New sound, works but i also believe she is just doing it because this type of music sells more, well who wouldnt. but most of the songs on folklore are her best. Dont know why it did so bad tbh. Whoa Nelly- 7.5/10 Folklore- 9/10 Loose 8/10 Its really hard! Edited March 19, 200718 yr by Ryan.
August 1, 200618 yr Author People who have their artistic principles wouldn't sell out like she has. Her last album may have under-peformed but she chose a bad lead single and it all went rather wrong -_- but the album is excellent in its entirity imo, it doesn't have the fillers 'Loose' has. I admit she's sold out successfully by having a hit single (we'll have to wait on the album). She just looks so fake now :(
August 1, 200618 yr i think the reason she sold out is because the bad sales of folklore could have possibly knocked her confidence, and made her wonder if this is the right step to being successfull. So she experimented a little, i am glad loose still has a few tracks that go back to her old days, so she hasnt just forgot about them.
August 1, 200618 yr Author Yeah but did she need such a radical over-haul? She's gone too far with it imo, she's totally upset her core fanbase with this move, doesn't show much caring does it? She may want success but it doesn't mean you need to just fulfill a formula of genericness to crack into the American market. Whilst I don't think that 'Promiscuous' itself is generic its quite clearly been engineered for an American market. I like this album as a side-step but I'd like to see a return to her folklore-roots after this, something that I sadly see as unlikely now :(
August 1, 200618 yr yeah very unlikely if she carries on with her success in america. Well tbh thats where most artists wanna be big, what with the huge population and all.
August 1, 200618 yr Author She isn't American though is she :P Mabye if she has a big hit with 'Loose' her 'Craving' for a hit will be satisfied and she will return to the true her. I can all but hope :(
August 1, 200618 yr she wasnt but now is. Whoa Nelly- still sold 2 million in US which is quite a shock, wikipedia. Six million ww Folklore- only 1.5 million ww, but bloody fantastic!
August 1, 200618 yr Author Those are fantastic sales all things considering the doomed era :( What really riles me about this is how (particularly Americans and indeed one or two fans in this forum) are fans off the base of 'Loose' yet seem totally unkeen to check her old stuff. These new fans -_-
August 1, 200618 yr  yeah i know maybe we should start up a campaign or something, i think all music is too based on charts, whatever is in the charts people will listen to you know, its all about if its popular you have to listen. But if something isnt doing too well people just ingore it 4 example folklore.
August 1, 200618 yr Author Its the sad truth :( I can see 'Loose' making the top 5 albums (in terms of sales) of the yr there, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th singles are all excellent choices for the US market, 2x/3x platinum and hopefully more :o She should at least go platinum/2x here over the duration of the singles.
August 2, 200618 yr Author They are both great at the sounds they aim to create ^_^ I don't mind this era I just want old Nelly back for another album :(
August 2, 200618 yr Amazing Album.. Much better then Loose. Finally someone apart from me and jake. Whats your fave track?
August 3, 200618 yr With you lot talking about her selling out, I remembered watching this interview on youtube with her. It took place shortly after the release of Folklore and in it she says she doesn't care how an album sells as long as she remains true to herself as an artist: [flash=450,350]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8O5l2TbB6GY.swf I guess she kinda contradicted herself with the 'Loose' era now.
August 3, 200618 yr Author She's a total out and out sell-out -_- I have lost so much respect for her on this transfer of "sound" :(
August 3, 200618 yr No i haven't lost any respect for her, i dont think she has done this purposely, she has been persuaded by record companies, she is still making great music and thats the reason i admire her  Edited August 3, 200618 yr by Ryan_P
