That's a shame if your mind was on swashbuckling, the Queen must have come as a bit of a surprise.

I was thinking of going to see it. What did you think of it overall? I'm always suspicious of films surrounded by loads of hype.

Well baytree I had also wanted to see the Queen. I thought Helen mirren was ok in the part but some of the other parts n ot so good. The actor who played Blair, I believe called michel sheen was excellent in looking exactly like him and getting the voice right. The part of charles was nothing like him and sylvia syms as the queen mother appeared to be sitting down a lot I think this was because she was twice as tall as the queen mother.I think they used some documentary footing quite a bit but generally I felt I was watching a B film apart from helen mirren but the critics seem to like it. I have found however, not to go by them as in the past I have felt the opposite to what they say.

Thanks, Preston. I'd seen clips and I thought the guy playing Blair had really captured his mannerisms and was facially quite like him.

Was it just Helen Mirren or did the film itself get awards at the festivals?

I'm in two minds whether to see it.

Another film I might go to is the new Clive Owen one set in the future - Children of Men? It looks good from the trailer but then so did War of the Worlds and I hated it.

I went to see Wicked last night. The seat was awful. Just bear in mind, if you go and see it and are offered first 4 or 5 rows towards the end - don't get them.

Half the stage wasn't visible at all and character stood at the side of the stage watching the action and all I saw was their backs while they did.

What I saw was good but, I'd want better seats.

Meg

What theatre is that, megham? Did the theatre staff tell you it was restricted view?

The show's been talked up for nearly a year. I hope it lives up to it. Personally, I'm not sure about the idea of a prequel to the Wizard of Oz. Is Wicked based on a book?

That was the Appolo. It was restricted view but they didn't say how restricted. I'd not have wasted the money if I'd known. I did see enough to bee able to say that the show and cast looked excellant. I intend to see it again from a better position.

Like I said, I'll support quality singer/songwriters like Darius.

By that I mean those who are prepared to write what they feel, not just a formula for a hit. Those who celebrate life and all its ups and downs and whose songs have poetry and emotion - songs which truly touch others.

Is it raining everywhere? It's been thumping down all day here :(

it really tipped down as I was doing the school run, have never driven through such heavy rain, all the roads were flooded! thank god my little car sailed through..literally! I didnt dare touch the brakes due to aquaplaining. luckily as soon as the rain stopped it gave the water a chance to drain away,

We went to a musical firework competition over the weekend :D

They where amazing :yahoo:

and the weather was great

Were the fireworks musical? or di they play instruments which exploded, or just set them off to music.

I really hope it wasn't the last one of those.
