Who would you have in a fantasy rock/punk/metal band? My initial reaction was just to have Dave Grohl on his own and leave it at that, but given the Foos' début is far from perfect that might not be the best idea. I'd like to fit Josh Homme in there somewhere, probably with Joey Jordison on drums. I can predict what a lot of people here are going to say but I think Hayley Williams would actually make a great singer - her vocal range is excellent and I'd be intrigued to hear what she'd be like on some heavier material.

Lead guitar - Tom Morello (RATM)

Rhythm guitar - Joshua Homme (Kyuss/QOTSA)

Bass - Matt Freeman (Rancid)

Drums - Travis Barker (blink-182)

Synths - Alec Empire and Nic Endo (Atari Teenage Riot)

Sax - Mike Brown and Jim Conti (Streetlight Manifesto)

Trombone - Mike Soprano (Streetlight Manifesto)

Trumpet - Matt Stewart (Streetlight Manifesto)

Backing Vocals - The Futureheads

Other misc instruments - Trent Reznor (NIN), John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin/Them Crooked Vultures) and Marcia Richards (The Skints)

Really? Mark Hoppus the best vocalist in the world ever?

Tis laughable.

sorry what, where did i say he was the best vocalist in the world ever? i put him as vocalist in my fantasy band I never said he was the 'best vocalist in the world ever'.

Well having someone as the vocalist in your fantasy band kind of implies that you think of them in that manner. Surely the point of a "fantasy band" is all of your very favourites put together? Or have I missed the point.

Male Vocals - Maynard James Keenan (Tool/A Perfect Circle)

Female Vocals - Sharon Den Adel (Within Temptation)

Rhythm Guitars - Jerry Cantrell and Dimebag Darrell (yeah, I know Dimebag is dead, this is fantasy, right...?)

Lead Guitar - Jimi Hendrix (see above)

Bass Guitar - Les Claypool

Drums - Danny Carey (Tool)

Synths/weird shit - Brian Eno and Richard James (Aphex Twin)

since when did personal favourite and best in the world have the same meaning?

James P - I have to agree with Chris here.... Someone you think of as a good vocalist and who does it for you, and someone who may be a technically proficient vocalist (which seems to be how you're defining "the best"), are often two totally different things.... Example - Christina Aguillera is a technically proficient vocalist, but she does bugger all for me, Courtney Love on the other hand, has practically zero technical prowess, but I could listen to her all day....
