Posted September 6, 201113 yr Switzerland are pursuing a similar national final format to last year, with an initial stage on the internet to select 6 entries, with a further 2 each coming from the French and Italian speaking broadcasters and 2 from a German language radio station. I've been involved with a few of the entries this year and there are a few Brits already, the two that may be known to some of you being: Maria Lawson "Champion" (X Factor 2005) Sound Boutique "When The Sun Goes Down" - written/produced by Darren Tate (Jurgen Vries, Angelic, DT8 Project etc) They're both available to listen on the site - http:// www. eurovisionplattform. sf. tv/ videos
September 7, 201113 yr I've listened to Maria's and I think it's really good, but will the Swiss public vote for her? Or do they have a jury vote (which I think she'll do very well in)?
September 9, 201113 yr I'm not overly fussed on the Maria Lawson song, but I'm really liking When The Sun Goes Down!
September 21, 201113 yr OMG! Ultra Naté of 1997-hit-"Free" fame is in the race, too! And I like the song!
September 21, 201113 yr Having listened to most of the entries, Maria and Ultra Naté are head and shoulders above the rest. When The Sun Goes Down is not bad, but I was expecting better! None of my favourites last year made the final though (How did Jodel Time not get through? :drama: ), so I'm not holding out much hope my favourites will reach it this year either.
September 22, 201113 yr Author Ultra Naté was another one of the artists I managed to get involved, there's another dance diva from a few years ago with an entry in the works too :)
September 23, 201113 yr TF100 I have to say the ones that you've been involved with are head and shoulders above the competition as it stands! Personally I don't particularly like Champion but I can still appreciate it from a production perspective. Can I ask in what capacity you're involved with these songs / artists? "Get Over You" by Georgea Blakey wouldn't be another one of yours would it? I noticed she's British and thought she might be.
September 23, 201113 yr As I understand it anybody can enter this selection merely by uploading their own song (2.55-3.00 in length) onto the website. With that in mind I can't believe only 50 odd songs have been uploaded so far, this is a real opportunity for unsigned/unknown artists I'd say. I'd consider uploading one of my own songs (I don't sing on them, just wrote/produced them) but all of my favourites were already on my MySpace page at some point so break the rules of being in the public domain before September 1st :( Maybe I'll just spend the next year writing an amazing new song and hope that the same competition runs again this time next year! I have a great demo stored away actually that I've never uploaded onto the internet but it would need a LOT of work before it could compete with the likes of the Ultra Nate and Sound Boutique songs...
September 23, 201113 yr I'm totally entering King's Cross (Angry Sex) if I ever get around to recording it. What are the rules on lyrics?
September 23, 201113 yr Author All the rules & regulations are available in English at http:// www .eurovisionplattform. sf.t v/extension/ugc/design/songcontest/pdf/Neu_Reglement_ESC_Selektion_2012_eng.pdf :) I've just been in touch with a lot of different people about getting them to enter really, the thing with stuff like this is that although many artists/songwriters would be up for doing it, it's not the sort of thing they think to seek out themselves, so it's necessary to get in touch and guide them through it all.
September 27, 201113 yr Ultra Naté was another one of the artists I managed to get involved, there's another dance diva from a few years ago with an entry in the works too :) My guess is Kelly Llorena. Warm? Cold? Older? More recent?
September 28, 201113 yr DQ (Denmark 2007) is also in the race, in his real male self Peter Andersen with "Second Chance"
September 29, 201113 yr Author My guess is Kelly Llorena. Warm? Cold? Older? More recent? Well it was due to be Maria Rubia (of Fragma fame) but her manager has decided against it sadly. There is now a song by South African Pop Idol winner (and World Idol participant) Heinz Winckler - http:// www. eurovisionplattform. sf. tv/videos/who_you_really_are
September 29, 201113 yr Well it was due to be Maria Rubia (of Fragma fame) but her manager has decided against it sadly. There is now a song by South African Pop Idol winner (and World Idol participant) Heinz Winckler - http:// www. eurovisionplattform. sf. tv/videos/who_you_really_are Aww that's a shame. I really don't get that to be honest, it's not like she'd have anything to lose by at least throwing her name in the hat. There is little to no publicity that comes with being in the internet pre-selection, so it's not as if it would be percieved as a "flop" if she didn't make it, which I'm sure is the attitude Ultra Naté etc are taking - if they don't make it to the national final, it can be as if it never happened and brushed under the carpet fairly easily. Anyways I like that song as well, probably up there with my favourites.
September 29, 201113 yr Anyways, BIG BIG NEWS!!! Well it was big news a few hours ago but still it deserves being mentioned. Lys Assia, the first ever winner, has entered a song in the internet selection. http://www.eurovisionplattform.sf.tv/videos/c_etait_ma_vie
September 29, 201113 yr Can't believe she's submitting her entry via the internet selection, surely by her name and reputation alone she'd have been given one of the other spots in the final regardless? Anyway, it would be quite amusing to see her on the Eurovision stage again in her 80's (?) and that's some commendable miming going on in the video there! Makes the likes of Hanson, Carson and Malmkvist look like teenagers
September 29, 201113 yr Can't believe she's submitting her entry via the internet selection, surely by her name and reputation alone she'd have been given one of the other spots in the final regardless? You'd think that, but she's been going on about entering again for years and it has never happened, so I'm going to guess that the Swiss broadcasters REALLY don't want her! I'd love her to make it though, and I suppose her chances really depend on how much of a "national treasure" she is seen as by the Swiss people, because let's face it, the song is too old-fashioned for even the juries to appreciate! That being said it's strangely catchy, and a "My Way" type song was definitely the best route she could have taken.
September 30, 201113 yr Author Same Difference: http:// www. eurovisionplattform. sf. tv/videos/music
September 30, 201113 yr Wow at Same Difference doing it :o It's weaker than everything on their current album but at least there's a key change!
