October 2, 201113 yr i dont really like it tbh kath.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HeQ3Mm0xq8 I don't like it enough to buy it either - but it is a heck of a lot better than some of Gary's other efforts (lately). Kath
October 4, 201113 yr Author It sounds like a low-budget Disney film song. I like When we were young a little more.
October 4, 201113 yr It sounds like a low-budget Disney film song. I like When we were young a little more. Yeah i agree actually, I much prefer Run for your Life. it's really grown on me, but Lighthouse...well let's just say i won't be rushing out to buy it! :P
October 6, 201113 yr In todays sun, gary says only 1 in 25 songs he writes is any good, so for every 1 song he records or puts on an album he disposes of 24.
October 6, 201113 yr In todays sun, gary says only 1 in 25 songs he writes is any good, so for every 1 song he records or puts on an album he disposes of 24. To be honest - he's not the only one - I'm sure that Lennon & McCartney's ratio of songs that were great to songs that were so- is probably the same. The difference could be though - that the ones that Lennon & McCartney felt didn't cut the mustard - probably never saw the light of day - whereas Gary's seem to end up being released one way or another (or people like John Barrowman, etc find them - just to say 'its a Gary Barlow song' despite the fact that Gary should have - and probably wanted to - throw them in the bin). BTW by mentioning Lennon & McCartney - I'm in no way putting Gary and on the same plain as them - they're just the first song-writers that sprung to mind. October 6, 201113 yr I guess it makes me realise that song writers really do have to work to get a good song, im sure they spend hours and hours writing songs that end up no use.
October 6, 201113 yr as long as he comes up with tracks like patience, rule the world etc then i dont mind if it takes him 300 songs to get there lol im sure he is extra critical with himself as well these days as he says in his autobiography that he was writing loads of songs around the second solo album era and couldnt get anything he liked and was just throwing them away, im sure half werent as bad as he thought at the time
October 6, 201113 yr just thought i'd post this as well, the link to Rob's new radio show Radio Rudebox..fast forward to 72:50 and he has a talk with Gary http://www.robbiewilliams.com/news-blogs/l...o-rudebox-radio
October 9, 201113 yr I like run for you life, its probably one of garys stronger songs outside of his take that/solo stuff, the chorus is very catchy, but i do like matt cardle anyway and always did as i like his voice.
October 10, 201113 yr this is the song gary wrote for westlife if people haven't heard it yet...its quite catchy actually after a couple of listens http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojJqVG7OlL8
October 11, 201113 yr I have listened to the Westlife song and prefer the Matt Cardle one, i think the song for matt has a more instant chorus that stands out, i would like matt to do well with this single.
October 24, 201113 yr Gary has just won a Q Award for 'Classic Songwriter' http://www.google.com/hostednews/ukpress/a...51319460940164A p.s. here's a sample of the song that he wrote for ronan parke, stronger than i am http://ronan-parke.org/2011/10/17/listen-t...-than-i-am-now/ Edited October 24, 201113 yr by jay727
July 16, 201212 yr NEW pop lads Lawson are gutted their recent writing sessions with Gary Barlow finished too late to make their debut album. But the tracks with the Take That king won’t be shelved as the band are considering a deluxe repackaged version of the disc, due out in autumn. I joined singer Andy Brown, 25, guitarist Joel Peat, 22, bassist Ryan Fletcher, 22, and drummer Adam Pitts, 21, for a cocktail on the Hard Rock Calling VIP bus after their bouncy Saturday set. Andy told me: “Take That are on the same label as us – Polydor – and we also work with the same producer, so Gary heard some of our stuff and really loved it. “We went in and wrote together and it was a dream come true. “He’s an amazing guy and a great writer so I couldn’t have asked for more. “It was such a fast two days. We had six hours to write a couple of songs but as the album is already finished we’ll have to do a deluxe version later to get them out.” A highlight of the Gazza session was a ballad called Living In My Shadow. Ryan said: “When I went in to record my bass part I was in tears.” Adam added: “The lyrics are unbelievable. It’s a beautiful song.” As well as 41-year-old Gary’s musical talents, his personality put Lawson at ease. Joel said: “It’s nice to meet someone who is your idol who doesn’t disappoint.” As the most mainstream act on the Hard Rock Calling bill, they pulled in a hefty crowd for their set. Ryan said: “Although we are a pop act we really do rock it out live and I think the HRC audience really appreciated it.” http://www.dailystar.co.uk/playlist/view/2...er-Gary-Barlow/
July 17, 201212 yr The songs wont get lost, a deluxe addition will see them included, thats considering there album does well enough to warrant a deluxe release, also these songs could make b sides.
July 17, 201212 yr Interesting to see what the songs are like, some of the songs he has wrote for others have been hit and miss, so it will be interesting to see what these are like.
July 17, 201212 yr Hmm, well we all know that Gary can write fantastic songs, especially ballads so I have high hopes for this. We'll defo hear it in the future though as they know that the media will pick up on anything Gary Barlow related now he is a proper A list celebrity if you like. Could even be a possible XF performance..who knows
July 24, 201212 yr Gary doesnt seem to write very good songs for other artist's really Marcus Collins, Alesha, Blue, Peter Kay,Delta. I hope he doesnt write any of Robbie's new album. I think is song writing is very MOR and generic apart from Back For Good.

I think is song writing is very MOR and generic apart from Back For Good. I agree. His writing for Take That is pretty excellent stuff (only a few truly duff songs and they were early on). Rule The World, Patience, Never Forget, Pray are excellent songs and you do wonder why he can never replicate the excellent stuff he does for his band for other artists. Who knows - maybe he can only do his best when he's inspired by Jason, Mark and Howard! Either way - his writing for other artists is lacklustre to say the least.
