Secret Symphony, the brand new album by Katie Melua, will be released on November 14th, 2011.

Katie Melua takes the stage in front of the Secret Symphony Orchestra, on this, her fifth album. Always happy to step away from people's expectations, Katie delivers a superbly crafted set of tracks interpreting songs drawn from a wide spectrum of songwriters including herself and Mike Batt.

"This album was going to be my 'singer's album' says Katie. I had always wanted to do this one day; singing other people's songs brings something out of you and your voice that isn't perhaps where you would have gone vocally with your own material. It stretches you. As it happened Mike and I did write a couple of new ones, but the general idea was to find songs by great writers such as Ron Sexsmith (Gold In Them Hills) and a favourite song of mine, originally recorded by Bonnie Raitt (Too Long At The Fair) plus some more well known ones like Keeping The Dream Alive."

The result is a collaboration with orchestrator and conductor Batt that imbues the songs with a distinct personality that could only be the work of this creative team. The gorgeous Secret Symphony album was recorded at Air Studios in London and represents a blend of musicianship and dedication that will delight existing Katie Melua fans and win her many new ones.

And a new-ish song:

Any other fans here? :D

I'm not a fan in general but I did LOVE The Flood and most of its parent album. This sounds more like the Katie that I won't be so fussed on, shame :(
I loved The Flood and Happy Place, but the rest of the album was pretty dull. I doubt it'll have much interest in this at all.
Her last album was fantastic, her best yet in my opinion. She has a brilliant voice.
Her previous album was indeed fantastic, and I don't agree about general dullness of it. All the first five tracks are superb, I'm only not fussed on 'The House', 'No Fear of Heights' and 'Tiny Alien', all the others have something attracting me.

'The House' was a truly fantastic album, really.

And Katie is one of the best singers of our generation, and a great artist.

I'd rather have got an album full of original material than covers, but it still could be great.
