November 23, 201113 yr Why exactly did they delete the deluxe edition after one day? I'd have thought that it would be a rather big seller, £14.99 was very reasonable for two discs and a DVD so it's a very strange marketing tactic now that people can't buy it. Wish I'd picked one up when I saw it on Monday now, they're already selling for double that on eBay!

Wish I'd picked one up when I saw it on Monday now, they're already selling for double that on eBay! I noticed this earlier too, managed to get one for just under £14 on Play. Far more than I would have liked to pay for it, but if it isn't going to be available again then it's best to get it as soon as possible!
November 24, 201113 yr Perhaps they thought it was better to push the "deluxe" version with the tour next year a la Take That "Progress"? Oh damn I mentioned them again!
November 24, 201113 yr MB will overtake by the end of the week Yes i also think he will, the album will fall just like the single lighthouse single did from 15 in the midweek to 32 after the fans got their copy. If it ends up at 4 it will be their lowest charting album ever just like the single was
November 24, 201113 yr I cant imagine it will sell that strongly over Christmas either, but it should stay top 10 from now till then
November 24, 201113 yr Managed to get hold of a copy of the Deluxe in HMV today! Do we reckon it will become a highly sought after collectible that I should keep hold of for a few years? :P
November 25, 201113 yr Im surprised in one sense and not in another they went number 1 in Ireland this week, i thought rihanna would beat them, lighthouse dropped big time though but a flop single hanst affected the album at all it seems.
November 28, 201113 yr Author Very happy it went #1 in Ireland. Good sales in the UK too I didn't expect it to be 90K+. Would love to see this do 300K by new year but not sure if it will. Nice to see updated sales from Music Week too, Back Home is getting very close to the million mark. Edited November 28, 201113 yr by Electro Paradise
November 28, 201113 yr amazing sales for 14 years now. . . they would have been no.1 if last week. . .
November 28, 201113 yr westlife almost always unlucky. . . =( Unlucky? I can't think of many bands who used a release schedule MORE to their advantage over the years, and especially so during their early days- They've been "Lucky" more than most!
November 28, 201113 yr Unlucky? I can't think of many bands who used a release schedule MORE to their advantage over the years, and especially so during their early days- They've been "Lucky" more than most! if they used release schedule they wouldnt release the album this week [it would be #1 last week], they wouldn`t release what makes a man in christmas week, it would have been their 8th consecutive #1 any other week of the year probably. they wouldnt miss #1`s to one - hit wonders like nizlopi, room 5 and peter andre come back, and in general they wouldnt release their singles and albums in November every year. . .

Still, the point stands that in their early days they took full advantage of quiet weeks. None of their first three no.1s sold more than 102k in a week, which in 1999 was frankly crap. In fact, "I Have A Dream", "Uptown Girl" and "You Raise Me Up" are the only ones in their entire back catalogue to have the sales which would have seen them triumph more often than not in their respective release years. Three songs which were all covers, conveniently.

Sorry, but you cant see it that way. just bicause westlife sales this week would have been enough for the number one spot last week dosent mean it would have topped the charts. Sales where higher overall this week and their sales would be lower to. The last few years havent been good to them. 2009- Where we are becomes their lowest selling album ever, even worst then Frank. 2010- Gravity dosent even come close to Qhere we are sales and bacomes their lowest selling album ever. 2011- Miss the top 10 chart with a single for the first time with their last ever single. - Miss the top 3 in the album charts for the first time. Not much of a happy ending

There's no shattering your faith is there? that's commendable. Sadly a re-writing of history though. Let's consider the evidence... 1999 In only Nine weeks throughout the entire year did the number one single sell under 100k, Westlife were responsible for three of those weeks. In the second half of 99 in NO OTHER week (other than the one they released in) would either "If I Let You Go" or "Flying Without Wings" have made No 1. Canny knowledge of the release schedule was responsible. Their debut album in 1999 wasn't released anything big and still failed to unseat Steps in their second week, indeed losing a midweek advantage! The second highest New entry was Simply red at No 6. 2000 They were LUCKY to hold onto the top spot in 4 weeks in Jan thanks to not much being released in the first weeks of teh new millennium despite recording the lowest sales for a number one record all year long. In April "Fool Again" made No 1 by some 1,423 copies over Mel C- VERY LUCKY again. Nobody foresaw the Bob The Builder phenomenon coming had Westlife of I dare say they wouldn't have released "What Makes A Man" and yes it did sell very well but in the Xmas week it was always going to, in comparison it's sales were poor to other Xmas No 2 songs in (then) recent years such as Chef (1998) Some Kudos does need to be given to them for taking on The Spice Girls, and Madonna in the album charts in 2000 & 2001 respectively- these victories were by no means certainties. 2002 "World Of Our Own" (single) debuted at No 1 on sales that would not have given it that status had it been released in any of the 10 WEEKS around it- LUCKY AGAIN 2003 One of my favourite about faces by them. Anyone else recall several interviews undertaken during the promotion of "Hey Whatever" where they said they were tired of doing of covers and they wanted to do all their own stuff?- Well when that single only made No 4 what did we get next? "Mandy" result back at No 1, seems the fans disagreed. I shan't go on. They release albums in November purely because that's when they can generate the mrost sales quickly, ever notice how they virtually forget about the latest album come January- the money is made and off they go- it's a rather cynical ploy if you ask me. To conclude Westlife have had consideable Luck in their releases and a lot of fortuatous "scheduling" certainly in the early days when some record companies were in cahoots!
