Bloc Party have confirmed that they will be recording without singer Kele Okereke and will be auditioning new singers.

Last week, Okereke revealed to NME that he had spotted guitarist Russell Lissack, bassist Gordon Moakes and drummer Matt Tong outside a rehearsal studio in New York and not only was he not invited to take part in the sessions, he was unaware they were happening at all.

Speaking to NME in an interview which you can read in the new issue of NME, which is on UK newsstands tomorrow (September 28) or available digitally, Russell Lissack confirmed that the band were making music again and would be looking for a new singer.

He said:

It's not really a secret because Kele's been pretty busy doing solo stuff and it looks like he's going to be doing that a bit longer. The other three of us wanted to meet up and make music. We were talking about just doing an instrumental thing, but now we might get a singer as well, to properly put some music out and play some shows.

Lissack denied that there was bad blood between the band and Okereke, but confirmed they hadn't spoken for a couple of months.

He added: "I haven't spoken to Kele for a couple of months, I guess since the festivals when I was doing stuff with Ash. But there's no bad vibes."

WAT?! Majorly disappointed.

This is like Evanescence, only this time AMY LEE leaves the band. :(

Don't think I will still love them as much without Kele.

There's nothing wrong with doing it as a side project but they ought to release any material under a different band name...

Still, it's a bit underhand not to inform him about anything :/

WHAT THE f***?!?! :(

I'd rather they waited a few more years if that's what it would take for them to properly get back together. Seriously not happy about this, I doubt any Bloc Party fans are. Doubt I'll even bother with the new stuff really. Ugh.

I was so looking forward to hearing new material as well! :(

I have nothing but hatred for bands who behave in this manner, especially to do it behind their backs. It's the main reason Itch from King Blues is an arsehole.

Same, I'm seriously gutted about this. The fact they didn't even tell Kele, yet they claim there are no 'bad vibes'? How do they know that if they haven't spoken to him for months?! Ugh. Bring on 'The Hunter' - a million times more interested in that than what they come out with now.

So Here We Are got to #5 way before that!

Haha, so it did!

It appears Pavel isn't the only flop-fan around these parts. :(

seriously though how can they throw him out the band without telling him.

LOL I thought The Prayer was #7. :drama:

kele's response apparently:

"Hmm, i dont (sic) know what to make of this. a big part of me is laughing HARD at all of this but another part of me is all like WTF?

"I'm quite curious as to what a bloc party audition would be like? i wonder if they would let me sit on the panel so i could be a judge tyra banks style?"

i've seen a few people (mostly radio dj's) saying it's all bollocks and kele is still in the band. zane lowe tweeted that he "bets it's all a joke".

seems this is either a) NME scaremongering/misquoting or b) a publicity stunt.

they really should do some sort of statement about it.
