Posted September 30, 201113 yr Jealousy I’ve had an exclusive first listen to Will Young’s new single and it’s a goodie! After a break Mr Pop Idol is now back with Jealousy, released on August 21. It’s a massive slice of euphoric dance-pop – think the male version of Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream. Welcome back!http://www.mirror.co.uk/celebs/news/2011/0...15875-23260030/ There are several things I will constantly love without question - the music of Abba; Wicked the book by Gregory Maguire; every single episode of Buffy (even the crap ones); and of course a select bunch of current music acts that never fail to delight me. Pop Idol winner (though it seems so futile to quote that now - he's far surpassed all expectations of a 9 year old win) William of Young is one of those acts. Some of my favourite songs of the past 10 years happen to belong to Will (Your Game; Switch It On; Love The One You're With; Let It Go) and I've been waiting impatiently for him to return with something that was instantly sparkling, classy and glorious. I have not been disappointed... Jealousy is the first single from William's fifth studio album, Echoes (out in August - check Popjustice for an exciting preview of the work) that premiered on radio 2 today. In what is turning out to be a stellar year for accomplished, quality, considered bloke-pop (see also Darren Hayes; Bright Light Bright Light), Will (and producer Richard X) have raised the bar with this genuinely beautiful tune. It's definitely an early morning chill out club track without having to resort to all the whistles and bells of samples/guest rappers, etc. William's vocal shines (as you would expect) from start to finish over a gorgeous percolating beat that completely complements the vocal allowing the track to soar. There are some lovely vocal touches throughout - for example, it's hard not to feel a bit swoony when he literally purrs that he is down on his knees. On Popjustice they say it's the perfect comedown album and this single is sterling evidence of that. It's essentially a whole new William but being introduced to us in a way that means this is not jarring or a shock for long term fans; indeed it's a lovely transition single. It's William's The Flood (Take That). All hail Sir William. Long may he reign... http://myfizzypop.blogspot.com/2011/07/ret...ng-kicking.html Ohanthonio's Blog Just another WordPress.com weblog Will Young – Jealousy Posted: July 11, 2011 | Will is a nice boy. He’ll always be thought of as ‘one for the mums’ with his brand of middle of the road pop which, over the last decade, has had quite a few brilliant moments Moving away from your typical mid-tempo piano ballad with his recent Fred Falke remixes and AMAZING Groove Armada collaboration, his new single and album have been produced by Richard X. He is a genius. Providing sparkly disco moments for Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Rachel Stevens, Annie and Roisin Murphy to name a few. Jealousy is just great. Elegant and sad it’s brilliant heartbreaking pop.And links to a few more small reviews/comments: http://www.isitbushweek.com/2011/07/fresh-...g-jealousy.html http://xolondon.blogspot.com/2011/07/will-...e-jealousy.html http://www.heatworld.com/Entertainment/Mus...ingle-Jealousy/ Yes, Will Young. YES. Posted by Shaun Kitchener ⋅ July 11, 2011 ⋅ Leave a Comment Filed Under Will Young Will Young premièred his new single ‘Jealousy’ on radio today, and out of nowhere it’s gone and made itself known as one of the best tracks of his 9-year career. It’s the first cut from his fifth studio album ‘Echoes’, due August 22nd, and it’s produced by Richard X. Young has enjoyed consistent album sales success since his ‘American Idol’ win, and even his last studio set – 2008′s ‘Let It Go’ – went platinum despite being his lowest-selling effort to date. In terms of singles though, Will has had only two Top 10 singles in the last five years. Can ‘Jealousy’ turn it around? Honestly, we don’t think so, but that’s purely based on its lack of radio-friendly oomph, which in fairness is also its biggest strength. It’s a funny ol’ industry, eh. http://trashlounge.co.uk/2011/07/11/yes-will-young-yes/ After finishing a 5 album deal with Sony and approaching his tenth year in the music business (OMG was Pop Idol THAT long ago?!), Will Young is about to release his best and most surprising album to date. The first single, Jealousy, recieved its first play today and it is awesome. Its heartfelt, emotional yet without needing to be a slushy ballad. Working with Richard X for this song and the whole album, Will’s new era is clearly going to be full of very special things. PS: For more “Dance” Will Young listen to History off of Groove Armada’s last album. Its eighties synth deliciousness.http://greatbigdisconnect.tumblr.com/post/...-for-will-young Will Young Returns With The Strongest Single Of His Career [Will Young has premiered his amazing new single, ‘Jealousy’. The song is the first to be lifted from his forthcoming Richard X produced fifth studio album, Echoes, out August 22nd.’Jealousy’ is not only the strongest single of Young’s already impressive career, but the mesmerizing electro piano ballad is one of the best singles to emerge this year. Richard X, who has worked with Pet Shop Boys, Annie, Kelis, Liberty X, Rachel Stevens and Sugababes, produced every track on Echoes. Young’s last record, 2008′s Let It Go, peaked at number two in the UK album charts and was certified platinum. Check out ‘Jealousy’ below. http://www.popinstereo.com/archives/19577 The Will Young comeback single is already a contender for best pop single of the year - listen to the premiere now Alright, where are the balls then... Will Young has seen the music industry from just about every angle in his ten years on the scene. He won the first Pop Idol over in the UK, long before American Idol even existed, and arguably was the first poster child of the reality-show driven music world we currently live in. That fact makes him either a villain or a hero, or an unsuspecting pawn in a game no one could have expected to go on so long, but really that's neither here nor there because IT HAS HAPPENED and we just have to deal with the fact that millions of people tried to make Ruben Studdard a star. Anyhoodle, Will was instantly huge, only to be famously overshadowed by the runner up of the show, Gareth Gates, after a few months. But while taking a back seat to Mr. Gates and his ridiculous dimples for a couple singles, William was busy penning what would go on to be one of the defining British albums of the noughties. He cranked out singles like 'Leave Right Now' and 'Your Game,' winning accolades and - surprisingly - artistic credibility along the way. Suddenly WiYo was back on top and a bona fide superstar. Over the next few years Will came out as a gay man (to the shock of everyone no one), and chucked out some of the finest tunes to have graced the radio waves. Then all of a sudden he wasn't really popular anymore because his songs weren't that catchy, and then he did a video about getting pregnant and everything got kind of awkward. Which is where we are now. Suffice it to say, Will's been up and down and has SEEN SOME THINGS in his time in "the business," but all that experience looks to have paid off as he gears up for his big, spectacular comeback. It kicks off with brand new single 'Jealousy,' which at first listen is a huge departure from Young's earlier adult contemporary-ish output, but is actually just an electro'd up version of the melodic pop he's always done. It's simple yet perfectly executed, understated yet moving, and most importantly, is VERY VERY GOOD. The single got its first play on Monday and is already being hailed by "the blogs" and also people who read "the blogs" so you know it's the real deal. But if you have any doubt, why don't you all just take a listen for yourself: We told you.http://scopitonesaturday.blogspot.com/2011...is-already.html 3 AM Oh, how we miss the days when Will Young was really famous. It was a simpler time, when the only two dilemmas in our life were "Will or Gareth?" and "Smirnoff Ice or Bacardi Breezer?", rather than "Which Sunday newspaper can we buy without being arrested?". Well, Will's back. And he hasn't changed much - his new single, Jealousy, has a dancier beat than some of his old stuff, but his voice is still all sweet and raspy and we want to give him a big, platonic (his choice, not ours) cuddle. The song's pleasant enough but it probably won't set the charts on fire, as it doesn't have the words "swag", "swagger" or "in da club" in it, and sadly that's what you need for a hit in the depressing musical landscape that is the year 2011. http://www.3am.co.uk/will-young-has-a-new-...en-to-it/28466/ Will Young Premieres Completely Amazing Richard-X Produced Single, “Jealousy” (Single Review Will Young – “Jealousy” (BBC1 Radio Premiere) And now for something completely amazing. “Jealousy” is the lead single from Will Young‘s fifth studio album Echoes, which is due to be released in late August–nearly a decade after his win on the UK’s Pop Idol. Produced by one of Brit-Pop’s very best, Richard X (Rachel Stevens, Sugababes, Annie), “Jealousy” is a haunting torch song of sorts, befit with a dreamy, inoffensive electronic throb–or, as The Guardian so astutely put it, “polite dance music.” Like all other perfect pop songs, “Jealousy” has all the makings of a proper “sad disco” stomper: Chilly vocals, unrequited love and a pulsating, shimmering beat. Young’s haunting, echoed vocals evoke a certain kind of ’90′s affect–something like a cross between Annie Lennox and Billie Myers–set atop warm, dreamy synthesizers that would have M83 beaming. “I’m tired of waiting / I’m tired of thinking / And it feels like jealousy,” Young cries out. And while it does indeed feel like jealousy, it also feels like an instant classic. http://www.muumuse.com/2011/07/will-young-...le-review.html/ Will Young, oh I forgot how good you are. We haven’t heard much from the pop/soul singer since his baby popping Hopes and Fears video and Groove Armada collaboration, but now the Think I Better Leave Right Now sensation is getting ready to release his fifth studio album Echoes on August 22nd(the 10th anniversary of his first Pop Idol audition.) To kick things off, the first single from the set Jealousy premiered on BBC Radio 2 today and like all Young’s material it is gorgeous. It begins with Will’s soft, delicate voice showcased over a timid piano solo carrying lightweight beats . Then, at about the 30 second mark it is all goes very soft dance as the chorus begins to make way for spacey electronica and a synthesised melody as he sings “And it feels like jealousy/And it feels like I can’t breathe/And I’m on, down on my knees/And it feels like jealousy.” The production is perfected so that it is not too overpowering and his vocals shine through. This is not like any ordinary dance ballad though. It is elegant, confident and warm. Everything a comedown track should be. As ever his music always holds up. Pop Music Magic Rating: 4/5 Enjoy! http://popmusicmagic.wordpress.com/2011/07...ysingle-review/ Edited September 30, 201113 yr by truly talented
September 30, 201113 yr Author Poponandon Will Young releases his new single “Jealousy” and it’s pretty much everything I could have hoped for! I first fell in love with Young when Fred Falke got his hands on “Tell Me The Worst”, then last year he was featured on “History” by Groove Armada which only ensured he was going in my top 10 male vocalists list. Now he steps out with the glorious shimmering electronic record “Jealousy” which leaves me no choice but to love this man for the rest of my life. Listen to “Jealousy” below, you just can’t deny his voice! Enjoy.http://poponandon.com/ The production is perfected so that it is not too overpowering and his vocals shine through. This is not like any ordinary dance ballad though. It is elegant, confident and warm. Everything a comedown track should be. As ever his music always holds up Another great Italian Review, excuse the dodgy translation-think it's just their hope re European release at this point: Quote: Jealousy Will Young: the new single Posted by clear on July 13, 2011 in Music News, New record Echoes will be titled the new album from Will Young, to be released on August 22 and anticipated new single from the artist that ten years ago reached its success through participation in the talent show Pop Idol that led him quickly into the limelight. So to mark the tenth anniversary of the birth of his successful career, Will Young has debuted online yesterday with the song Jealousy, worthy of Echoes in advance that will contain a tracklist of 13 original songs written by the same Young in collaboration with Andy Cato, Jim Eliot and Pascal Gabriel. The production of the disc appears the signature of Richard X and the next August 22 in the album will be sold throughout the United Kingdom and then spread to the rest of Europe and maybe the world. Regarding Jealousy can say that Will Young could not have picked a better song in a big way to anticipate her new album. The single fact has all it takes to attract the attention of the audience and music to accompany our summer sound. On the disk instead we can not anticipate anything, except that the second Popjustice those new songs are "almost indescribably brilliant, crazy, irresistible." A comment that you do not hear often when it comes to pop music genre or pseudo-commercial use. So we are curious to see what has reserved for his fans the British artist, but in the meantime do not forget to check out the new single, Jealousy, and let us know what you think. Here's the link: http://www.musica10.it/will-young-jealo ... 18091.html We must admit we have always had a crush on this Pop Idol. One of our fav albums by Will Young was Friday’s Child, if you have never heard it buy it NOW! Well the Brit pop boy is back with his fifth studio album Echoes produced by the fabulous Richard X and filled with Will’s soulful voice and chilled dance beats. First single to be released is Jealousy, playing to his fantastic vocals and similar tone to that of the Groove Armada track back in 2010 – History. We are loving the track already. Love you Will! http://www.snapcacklepoponline.com/2011/07...g-jealousy.html More than 10 years on from his Pop Idol victory Will Young is still going strong. In recent years he's shown a bit of a soft spot for a more dance based sound - appearing on Groove Armada's most recent album and performing a Fred Falke remix of 'Tell Me The Worst' during his live sets. Will's forthcoming album Echoes has been produced by the legend that is Richard X. The first single from it is called 'Jealousy' - The Guardian describe it as "a stately, radio-friendly slice of polite dance music with a fantastic vocal" - I couldn't put it better myself: Echoes is released on 22nd August with the single Jealousy out to download the day before.http://www.therazorwire.co.uk/2011/07/list...g-jealousy.html New Music: ‘Jealousy’ by Will Young. The original Idol Will Young marks his triumphant return with the release of his new single Jealousy from his upcoming fifth album titled ‘Echoes’. Check it out below: The song has been produced by British hit-maker Richard X and is a gorgeous synth-laden electropop tune that manages to be both uplifting and melancholy at the same time. It is, in my opinion, one of Will’s best recordings and has already been receiving considerable airplay. Jealousy is set to be released on August 21st 2011 with the album following suit the day after. http://songforeurope.wordpress.com/2011/07...-by-will-young/ With the mature adult-contemporary pop of Will Young’s fourth album Let It Go being largely ignored by Radio 1, it came as quite a shock when his soulful falsetto vocals were found sliding over the electro-cool of Groove Armada’s ‘History’, the closing track to last year’s Black Light. The arrival of new single ‘Jealousy’, taken from his upcoming fifth album Echoes, confirms that this excursion into dance wasn’t a one-off. A gorgeous electro-ballad with an irresistible chorus melody, ‘Jealousy’ is reminiscent of Sophie Ellis Bextor’s ‘Synchronised’ which was undoubtedly the highlight of her recent Make A Scene album. Like the rest of Echoes, the track was produced by Richard X. A record produced by the man responsible for some of the best pop songs of the noughties, including Sugababes’ ‘Freak Like Me’, Rachael Stevens’ ‘Some Girls’ and Annie’s ‘Chewing Gum’, makes Echoes a rather exciting prospect. Posted on July 14, 2011 by Smylliehttp://smylliecyrus.net/2011/07/will-young-jealousy/ From Spain Will Young will make the best album of the year 'Jealousy' is the first single Young Will no-nonsense.. The winner of Pop Idol, openly gay, will celebrate the tenth anniversary of his casting in reality with the release of her sixth album, which sounds very promising. The first single is called 'Jealousy' and is produced by nothing more and nothing less than Richard X, one of the UK pop moguls. Electrodramática a ballad in which the poor Will torture again and again but we love it. The rest of the album, aptly titled 'Echoes', will present productions Groove Armada, Richard Stannard, Gabriel Pascal, Fred Falke and new inspiration for Madonna , Sound of Arrows. In short, 'Echoes', which goes on sale on August 22, is positioned as one of the candidates for album of the year, and now you can enjoy the first single: http://www.cromosomax.com/3713-will-young-...r-disco-del-ano Will Young is Amazingly Good in ‘Jealousy’ Once upon a time Will Young said I think I better leave right now before I fall any deeper. Well William isn’t quite letting it go just yet with the premiere of his latest single Jealousy. With a pulsating beat, depressing lyrics and haunting vocals, Jealousy has the makings of a classic sad electro-anthem (e.g. Robyn’s Dancing On My Own). Produced by Richard X (Kelis, Sugababes), the awesome single is a tearjerker. The more you play it, the more you want to burst into projectile tears. If you can’t tell by now, I absolutely adore this. The production reminds me of Chicane a bit. This is definitely Will’s best sound to date, and his best single. I’d love for him to have a hit single again.http://www.spinorbinmusic.com/2011/07/16/l...od-in-jealousy/ Will Young Returns with 'Jealousy' This week has already seen the return of the infamous X-Factor Queen Leona Lewis, but before the X-Factor there was this little thing called Pop Idol and before Leona Lewis there was this amazing man who started it all...Will Young. Will has had tremendous success over the past ten years with four albums under his belt and several Brit Awards as well as fairly adequate acting career staring in Marple and the critically acclaimed Sky drama Bedlam. Now the Your Game singer is back with new track 'Jealousy' and its rather good. If that wasn't enough to get you excited, ITV have just announced they will be showcasing 'A Night with Will Young', a one-off special which will see the British talent shine with all his hits and new tracks from his upcoming release. We can't wait William! Will has been quoted as being "so excited" for ITV's special event and has promised a "few surprises.” Here's to some amazing guest duets then! Will tweeted album previews earlier via his twitter account with the album artwork debuting on the You and I singer's Facebook page. His fifth studio effort is entitled 'Echoes' and is scheduled to drop August 22. 'Jealousy' will get its official release just one day before the album on August 21. http://theflyseye.blogspot.com/2011/07/wil...y.html?spref=tw
September 30, 201113 yr Author I didn't think I'd be comparing Calvin Harris and Will Young anytime soon but ... Calvin Harris has a new track that is due for release on August 21st and it's quite different to anything he has done before ... but quite similar too. It's a lot softer and has massive differences than that of The Girls or I'm Not Alone which the 20 year old starlet is probably most known for but has big similarities in it's danciness ... And the video is very obviously influenced or made by the same creator of the Bounce video. I don't mind the new track, Feel So Close at all, I think it's the chorus that puts me off though. The music with the beat like in Bounce isn't as good as the single featuring Kelis ... it makes it a little stale, the verses however aren't bad at all, Just an anti-climax of some sort. I don't think it has that same Calvin Harris feel to it that made us fall in love with him back in 2007 ... or again in 2009. I'm not quite sure but ... I know it's not bad. Will Young has a new single too that is also for release on August 21st. It's called Jealousy and after the platinum selling album Let It Go three years ago he has come back like nothing we've seen before from the Pop Idol winner. He has tried his luck at some dance music and actually, his voice very much suits it in my opinion. It's like a ballad, which Will Young is very much known for, but given a relatively strong backing dance beat to give it a little more filler, whilst actually holding back slightly on the vocal ... it's quite an interesting combination actually. It's softer than some dance tracks, which is like Calvin Harris' new song but doesn't finish on quite the same riff or selection of tempo ... It's more full of lyrics as opposed to Feel So Close. Even so, I can see this filling dance floors soon and being a bit of a hit for the All Time Love singer. Both songs are probably going to do quite well but with so much competition in Dance music at the moment will they fall behind? Or is Gentler Dance that is a bit like beat-filled ballads going to be the new and upcoming thing this year?http://tigers-lions-bears.blogspot.com/201...ing-calvin.html Will Young – Jealousy Review sounds, styles and genres continually boom in and out of fashion, while an endless litter of new artists bounce eagerly onto the scene to nip at the ankles of established acts. Artists who take a year out to write a new album soon feel like they’ve been gone forever *COUGH* La Roux *COUGH*, while Lady Gaga’s almost continuous presence in the charts since her debut in 2009 makes it feel like she’s been knocking around far longer than her relatively short two years. For an artist to be celebrating ten years in the industry is therefore quite a big deal- the kind of big deal where your Nan puts Corrie on mute for twenty minutes and gets out the fondant fancies and Babysham. When that artist is a TV talent show winner who managed to maintain a career during a decade which saw the industry morph into something almost unrecognisable from its pre millennium incarnation, AND do it with the same record label he first signed to, AND still be achieving platinum album sales, it’s nothing short of amazing. Yes, prepare to feel old- this month marks exactly ten years since an unknown Will Young first ambled politely into a Pop idol audition and sang ‘Blame It On The Boogie’ in front of an equally unknown Simon Cowell. Young went on to win Pop Idol in February 2002, and while the careers of most of his talent show contemporaries soon went to that Big Karaoke Bar in the sky, Young’s distinctive style and sound soon garnered a loyal fan base who appeared to stick by him as social networking saw the industry fragment into a series of smaller sub genres with smaller sales. During his ten years in the industry he’s managed to sell eight million albums worldwide, and while his last few single sales have been disappointingly low (representing a wider trend in the industry as a whole), his album sales have continued to perform well– each one achieving platinum status. So what do you do if you’re Will Young and want to celebrate your tenth birthday in the music biz? Down your own weight in WKD and end up sprawled in your own vomit outside a cash point while singing Swagger Jagger to alarmed bystanders?? OF COURSE NOT. This is Will Young, and he’s been very sensibly writing his new album ‘Echoes’, along with producer Richard X and a team of co writers which reads like a modern pop fans wet dream: Sound of Arrows, Groove Armada and Fred Falke to name but a few. The first single to be released from the album is ‘Jealousy’- a beautiful ‘tears on the dance floor’ electro ballad about unrequited love and the slightly creepy stalker tendencies it can induce. The departure from Young’s usual sound is striking; dance edged and synth heavy, ‘Jealousy’ is Young’s mission statement for the next phase of his career- having the confidence to make music which he genuinely loves while still maintaining a commercial edge. Having written or co-written every song on Echoes it also feels like this could be his most personal album to date, and while a change in direction is always a risk, now feels like the right time for him to take it. 'Jealousy' (The Alias mix) By Will Young The original production job on 'Jealousy' - at once powerful and understated, electronic but pulsing with natural beauty - is all very well but there are times in life when all you really want is a 0%-subtle dancefloor raveathon and that is what The Alias have turned in here. Obviously it still has Will's emotional 'n' lovely vocals, though, so it's still the same song. Which is just a well. As our dear old grandma used to say, "if it hasn't got any of the vocals in, it's not really a remix at all it's just a load of f***ing rubbish someone's knocked off in an afternoon for £1500". She was a wise woman.http://www.popjustice.com/index.php?option...&Itemid=279 WILL YOUNG FINDS HIS GROOVE Surely this wasn't supposed to happen. Will Young - of Pop Idol, Very Good Music Video ('Who Am I?', 'Switch It On' and 'Friday's Child') and Mr Nice Guy fame - has made one of the year's best electro-pop tunes. 'Jealousy', the first single from his sixth album 'Echoes', combines God-among-men Richard X's production and Will's soaring vocals. The result is a thoroughly modern pop song that both pulls at the heartstrings and feels genuinely euphoric. Will apparently chose his new musical direction following his brilliant Groove Armada feature 'History'. Although more Groove Armada/Will material would have been brilliant to hear, we're not-exactly-dissappointed to be getting a FULL ALBUM of Richard X's knob twiddling loveliness. Wow, William. The boy done good - very bloody good. http://like1999.blogspot.com/2011/07/will-...y.html?spref=tw Will Young – Jealousy There's nothing like launching an album campaign with a full frontal picture of yourself dressed eyebrow-raisingly in fetching white lycra. Especially if you have a nickname that rhymes with your actual name. While some onlookers doubtless will be suffering pangs of jealousy at how snugly Will Young fits into his striking outfit, the song itself - the first taste of upcoming album Echoes - marks a change of direction for the sometime talent contest winner whose career over the last decade now surely transcends such associations. Young's Groove Armada collaboration History and some tasty Fred Falke remixes - especially of Tell Me The Worst - hinted at things to come. Now, Jealousy continues Young's embracing of gossamer-smooth electropop, sounding like a missing harmony for Robyn's Dancing On My Own and highlighting a beautifully delivered pop vocal. Get jealous at Will on a trapeze with the video here:http://www.musicomh.com/music/features/tra...-7-aug_0811.htm We do have a thing for well-manufactured pop music here at A First Class Riot, and when it comes crafted by the best producers and writers out there, then you know we’ll be first in line to hear the results. So it’s with great expectation that we’re waiting for the next album from the original Pop Idol winner, Mr. Will Young, a work which will be entirely produced by Richard X (Annie, M.I.A., Róisín Murphy, Rachel Stevens, Goldfrapp…). Jealousy, its first single, is pure-pop-gold, with its fusion of electronic and dance elements, and the subtle use of dreamy synths, serving as background to a flawless melody that hints a lot to the more melancholic side of things. It all sounds very controlled, but with an underlined tension that is further explored in its acrobatics-heavy video. In it, Will is lusting for a boy that is (probably) out of his league, something that, apparently, makes him feel hurt. And slightly mad. And looking a bit like a scary-stalker. No more Mr-Nice-Guy? Watch below. http://afirstclassriot.com/2011/08/01/t ... -jealousy/ Will Young — "Jealousy" Outside of the U.S., Will Young has already achieved multiplatinum success as an out gay man and a quasi-soul pop singer — becoming the most approximate successor we've got to, say, George Michael. But on his forthcoming sixth album Echoes, Young teams up electropop producer Richard X for a sound that's already feeling like a reinvention: Lead single "Jealousy" is as emotive and grief-stricken as you can get when you're going four to the floor. It's also total pop gold.http://www.towleroad.com/2011/08/music-new...+%23gay+news%29 Will Young Jealousy Will Young's progress as an artist since Pop Idol has been impressive, seemingly finding his feet as a solo performer, shedding his slightly twee pop songs for something more robust. Many hoped last year's terrific collaboration with Groove Armada - 'History' - showed the way for his future music and this first single from his forthcoming album indicates that could be the case. 'Jealousy' begins gently enough, with the slightly vulnerable vocal, talking of burning fires and the power of the green eyed monster, before the beat kicks in after 30 seconds – and from there the track builds impressively. An obvious delight for radio stations, given the right support, this could be Young’s biggest hit for sometime. There’s no fear of scaring his middle-aged backers but there's certainly some musical progress. If the album matches this taster the autumn tour dates http://music-news.com/showreview.asp?H=Wil...;nReviewID=7309 jealous much? WILL YOUNG - JEALOUSY UK's original Pop idol winner is about to release a new album. bla bla bla the lead track of this new album (echoes) is titled jealousy and has a wicked electropop backing. will's vocals are pretty slick too. watch the plotful music video below and listen/dl a great club remix version. keep ya eyes peeled later this month for more will young!http://ind-k.blogspot.com/2011/08/jealous-...y.html?spref=tw Essential Tune: Will Young - 'Jealousy' It’s almost a decade since Will Young brushed aside Gareth Gates to take the Pop Idol title; a win that propelled him to stardom and helped him shift an impressive 8million records. With the advent of such a milestone, Will has made the deft decision to expand his musical boundaries with the electro-tinged and utterly brilliant ‘Jealousy’, a track which sees him join forces with esteemed producer Richard X. Starting out with a plaintive piano hook delicately titillating Will’s emotionally charged and instantly recognisable vocals, it soon picks up tempo with a pulsing electronic beat before flourishing into an all out synth-pop gem. Easily the best thing Will has done in years, following the relative commercial failure of his previous three singles (which all failed to crack into the top 30), ‘Jealousy’ should propel Will back into the upper realms on the charts where he belongs. ‘Jealousy’ is available to download on 21st August 2011. Will’s fifth studio album ‘Echoes’ follows a day later http://www.hallamfm.co.uk/music/s157_will-...ealousy-single/
September 30, 201113 yr Author DS review! Five Stars!! Singles Review Music Will Young: 'Jealousy' "I take it all back/ All that I said/ It comes out to fast/ So I just couldn't help the way that I felt," Will Young admits apologetically in the opening of his new single. While most of us can admit to over-sharing at the wrong moment at least once in our lives, on further investigation there appears to be a lot more to this one than getting text-happy after a few bevvies. "It feels like jealousy/ And it feels like I can't breathe," he confesses over a sad-pop disco beat and rousing piano chords helmed by electro-pop connoisseur Richard X. The tale of lusting for an otherwise engaged man, things steadily crescendo by the final chorus with a stirring, growly vocal as he confesses: "I'm tired of waiting/ I'm tired of thinking" - though after seeing how he fills out an all-in-one lycra bodysuit in the accompanying video, we can't imagine he'll be suffering for long.http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/singlesr...g-jealousy.html Entertainment focus.. FIVE STARS like the album! QUOTE Will Young has proven that you can build a sustainable and successful career if you graduate from a TV reality show. Winning the original Pop Idol back in 2002, Young has gone on to sell over 8 million albums and has dabbled in acting. His last studio album was Let It Go in 2008 which achieved platinum status, as did a greatest hits release in 2009. Now Young is back with new album Echoes and its lead single Jealousy. Jealousy isn’t what people have come to expect from Will Young. Better-known for his heart-felt ballads, Young is changing things a bit with his new single. Produced by dance artist Richard X, the single takes Young’s distinctive vocals and accompanies them with a soft dance beat. The end result is simply stunning and one of our favourite pop tracks of the year so far. We’re glad to see Young doing something new and we’re very excited about his new album Echoes. Having been fans of him since Pop Idol we’re glad to see him continuing to go from strength-to-strength. This new direction will widen him up to an even bigger audience. http://entertainment-focus.com/music/artic...oung-jealousy-0 Come On Will Young - Come On Sometimes, an artist will just get it bang on the money with their next single choice. This is the case for Mr. Will Young, who's gone for his delightful cover of Kish Mauve's Come On as the follow up to Jealousy. Half of Will's album Echoes is penned by the electro-pop group (who, if you remember, also gave us Kylie Minogue's brilliant 2 Hearts) and just with Jealousy, there's both the instant appeal of the song's hooks, but also a kind of gradual dawning of just how beautiful and true the lyrics really are. With his Echoes album, Will has hit on the real sentiment that lies at the heart of each and every one of us. As Come On launches into its chorus, the song feels like its been locked up in Will's heart ever since he won Pop Idol - it positively bursts out from him, full of emotion and some rather nice vocodered ad libs (note to George Michael, this is what your cover of True Faith should have sounded like) Take That hit their stride when they turned to dreamy synth-pop, and so too has Will Young. There's much to be said to pairing a voice as soulful and relaxed as Will's to the futuristic electro-scapes that populate his album. There's a crisp, crystalline quality to the production that exudes such luxury, you get a real sense of both the song and album being a real 'premium' product. Come On is released on the 21st November.http://www.totallyvivid.com/2011/09/will-young-come-on.html Will Young is releasing his cover of the 2009 Kish Mauve record “Come On” as the second single from his new album Echoes – you may know a song Kish Mauve co-wrote by the name of “All The Lovers” which was released last year by mighty Aphrodite Kylie Minogue. Will delivers a brilliant rendition of the edgy electro-POP tune, a standout on the album that rightfully deserves the single treatment. Listen to the album version or watch Young give a knock out performance of “Come On” below, simple and yet it’s nothing short of spectacular! A striking presentation of art and beauty, Will is proving to be quite the beast on stage. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=playe...p;v=SiUZ5VRmHkU http://poponandon.com/will-young-announces...-single-come-on Remix o’clock: Cahill do Will Young’s Come On Cahill are a staple of the standard pop EP on iTunes, with their samey-yet-occasionally-brilliant remixes. They’ve turned their attention to Will Young‘s very good new single ‘Come On’, and though it’s essentially just the album cut with a fast club beat underneath it, it is oddly euphoric: Top marks, William. Top marks, Cahill.http://trashlounge.co.uk/2011/10/11/remix-...youngs-come-on/ November Singles Review – Adam Lowe WILL YOUNG Come On 21st November The second release from Will’s brilliant Number 1 album ‘Echoes’ and in truth, every track on it is a potential single such is the quality that the man has achieved. His voice is silky and faultless, the arrangements are pure brilliance and the production is second to none. This may not be a massive hit but makes most other singles around at the moment appear second rate. http://mag.bent.com/2011/11/november-singl...view-adam-lowe/ Edited November 1, 201113 yr by truly talented
November 10, 201113 yr Digital spy Will Young: 'Come On' - Single review Released on Sunday, Nov 20 2011 Published Thursday, Nov 10 2011, 13:11 GMT | By Robert Copsey | Add comment If there's one artist from Simon Cowell's back catalogue who has earned the right to release a cover song, it's Will Young. Why? Because not only has he managed ten successful years in the biz with a full four albums worth of original material, but time and again he's proven himself more than capable of turning out a hit without the need to rely on the work of others. Therefore, it comes as little surprise that his latest chart botherer - a rendition of Kish Mauve's 2009 electro-rock hit 'Come On' - is far more than a note-for-note rehash. "Walk away, that's what you do," he bawls innocently over bobbing synths courtesy of Richard X, before definately calling "come on, come on" to his contrary lover. In fact, even afer repeated listens, Young's lounge-pop re-invention still sounds like different number altogether. **** 4 out of 5
November 22, 201113 yr Home › Groups › Shout! The Music Magazine Single Review: Will Young - 'Come On' “It cements his versatility as an artists and the adeptness of his talents” 4 STARS Digital Release: November 20, 2011 Physical Release: N/A Nothing more than a quick glance at what the original singing and song-writing competition went on to become: a hideous monopolising talent vacuum steam-rolling it’s way over the music industry, makes it easy to forget that Will Young’s entire career grew from such comparatively humble beginnings on the much smaller scale of Pop Idol. Arguably one of the most accomplished singer-songwriters to ever be launched from such a platform, he’s managed a career spanning nearly ten years, with enormous sales and a solid fanbase to boot. He’s more than earned the right to his first cover song since 2002. His reliably original material in the intervening nine years is a bountiful contrast to the barrenness of The X Factor casualties forever stuck recording cover after cover with strategically released Christmas and Mother’s Day cash-ins. Said cover is that of ‘Come On’, a song recorded by Kish Mauve for their 2009 album ‘Black Heart’. And it’s safe to say that, with Richard X helming the production table, this cover is far more than a simple re-hash either. In place of a sulking, mardy delivery there’s Young’s meringue-light voice; in place of angsty indie guitars and bass there’s a glittering ensemble of beautifully layered synthesisers and galloping beats. The grumpy slur of Mima Stilwell’s original works within it’s own typified genre perfectly, but Young’s dreamily optimistic cover magnifies the song’s plea for clarity from confusion into a brilliantly shining, flawlessly produced wide-screen spectacle. Young’s vocal performance assembles it’s closer to normality than Stilwell’s, but is by no means a more conventional method; his instantly distinguishable voice rings out with a desperate longing for some kind of reprieve from a lover. Stilwell was happy enough to dwell moodily about a complacent other half but it’s Young’s delivery which re-ignites the emotion in her lyrics. Will’s first cover in nine years glows with an effervescent electronic backing and an ambitious production which Young handles with enough care and vigour to successfully convey the emotion left dormant by Stilwell’s dulcet original. It cements his versatility as an artists and the adeptness of his talents. Join these groups: Shout! The Music Magazine “... http://t.co/4iRuIR3u
December 21, 201113 yr Author Losing Myself Tuesday, 20 December 2011 Will Young - Losing Myself If you'd have asked someone a few years ago if they'd ever have thought Will Young would re-invent himself as an angelic synth-pop artist, you'd probably have been greeted with silence. But that's exactly what Will managed to achieve this year, and it's resulted not only in some of the best material of his career, but some of the best pop music around at the moment. Where previous singles Jealousy and Come On felt futuristic and reflective, new track Losing Myself has its feet set firmly in the 80s. The production is pure bliss and Will's soulful vocals suit it perfectly. This could easily be something off a late 80s George Michael album, but imbued with all the maturity and electronic glory of something New Order or Depeche Mode would have been proud to call their own. Some people dismiss electronic music as cold and dispassionate, but Losing Myself is wrapped up in such warmth, such delicacy and nuance of emotion that it packs the intensity of any hard-wrought campfire ballad. As 2011 turns into 2012, Will Young has proven yet again he stands as an artist of continuing relevancy and one of the prime examples that reality TV prodigies can be forces for good in music. Losing Myself is released on the 19th March.http://www.totallyvivid.com/ Will Young: Losing Myself (New Music) 2011 was quite the comeback year for Will Young. His fifth studio album Echoes topped the charts and has since gone platinum, and it scored him his first Top 5 hit in five years with the release of the tremendous Jealousy. What happened next therefore came as a bit of a surprise. Young’s follow up single, the equally impressive rendition of Kish Mauve’s Come On, crashed and burned on the UK singles chart, peaking at #83 and subsequently became his lowest chart placing to date. Of course the most likely reason for the poor performance was the large volume of albums he was selling in the run up to Christmas but it still doesn’t sit too well with me that one of his most notable releases, is also his least commercially recognised. It’s now been announced that the third single to be taken from Echoes will be the track Losing Myself, which Young co-wrote with Pascal Gabriel. Gabriel has a pedigree in electronic pop, having made a name for himself in the eighties working alongside Erasure and Debbie Harry, but more recently he has written and produced some of the most innovative electropop albums of the last five years, working alongside Marina & The Diamonds, Little Boots, Goldfrapp and Ladyhawke. The eighties influences in this brilliant synthpop track are in abundance, and it’s another fantastic single choice that continues to push Young up in my estimations. Before this album I never really understood his appeal to anyone below a certain age, but this new direction suits him down to the ground. Losing Myself is pencilled in for a 19 March release date. http://there-view.tumblr.com/post/16227977...g-losing-myself Digital spy Ten tracks you need to hear. We weren't sure which song Will should release next from his chart-topping Echoes album (because it's all exceptionally brilliant), but having seen the accompanying music video for 'Losing Myself', we think he made the right decision. Produced by electro boff Richard X, the track's lounge-pop beat and spacey synths are deceptively addictive. RChttp://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/thesound...ed-to-hear.html Is there anything Will Young can’t do? Since winning the original series of Pop Idol back in 2002, Will Young has released six albums, tried his hand at various music genres and succeeded in all and, as if that wasn’t enough, he proved his worth as an actor when he turned up in the hit TV series, Skins. His latest release, ‘Losing Myself’, proves just how far he’s come as a singer/songwriter since his first release ‘Evergreen/Anything Is Possible’. The majority of Will Young’s success has come from his exceptional voice being paired with slow-paced, love songs – something that he’s keen to break away from, if this single is anything to go by. Taken from “Echoes”, his fifth studio album, ‘Losing Myself’ is far more uplifting than many of Young’s previous releases. In fact, it’s almost fair to refer to it as a dance track; though if parts of the video are to go by, he should probably steer clear from dancing or anything remotely choreographed. Maybe he’s not so perfect after all. Anyway, back to the single... The synths help to make it far more modern and upbeat than what we’re used to from Will Young and, at the same time, they make it much more suitable for today’s chart. Let us not forget they also accentuate his seemingly flawless voice. It would seem that Will Young is a good example of an artist who accepts that they have to adapt their style in order to remain current. However, unlike many other artists it appears Will Young is able to pull it off, as proven when his first release off the album, ‘Jealousy’ reached number 5 in the charts. The single itself is about losing yourself and trying to find the ‘real’ you, whilst not being the same as everybody else – something that many people will be able to relate to easily. This is portrayed perfectly in the music video, as Will Young is joined by various copycats. There’s one powerful scene where he has a short stand-off with each of his copycats, only for them to act like shadows. One thing that has always remained consistent throughout his career is Will Young’s ability to pour emotion into any song he sings and this is no exception. His voice works brilliantly with the synths and helps to add emotion that can sometimes be taken away in dance tracks. http://www.stereoboard.com/content/view/170860/9 Edited February 23, 201213 yr by truly talented
