I guess I should've at least confirmed this first and wait to be told if it was going to be veto'd. I just assumed it would because of Lykke Li's high profile on BJSC. It's a weird one this because I first heard the original version of 'I Follow Rivers' when it entered the HIT30 three months back. At first it didn't register with me. Then it was only when I searched for my BJSC entry for the latest contest that I decided to check out 'I Follow Rivers' again. This is when I discovered the brilliant Magician Remix of the song (so about 5 weeks ago) and I loved it. :lol: It's far more commercial/radio friendly compared to the original and had it been allowed by the BJSC mods, maybe this would be a contender to win. I guess we will never know...

It's doing incredibly well in Australia. Still doing well in New Zealand, Belguim and Netherlands too. Does make me wonder how this song would do if it got an official release in the UK. I know it's already on iTunes but it's not selling because there must be hundreds and thousands of people in the UK who might adore this song but don't know it exsists.

 

03 (02) Lana Del Rey - Video Games (01-01-01-02-02-02-03) [7 wks] Thought this may rebound to #1 for you, I've always loved it but I expect the UK release will bring it a new peak for me seeing as #8 was its peak off the back of BJSC...

 

I've never had a song return to #1 in my chart and I don't personally like the idea of songs returning to #1 once they've already there. There have been rare occasions when a former #1 holds at #2 whilst other songs have topped my chart and fallen more sharply but like I say it rarely happens.

Not really. It's ok but compared to his previous singles they all had a much bigger impact on me. In fact, 'Lighters' for me is acting the proper follow up to 'The Lazy Song'. 'Marry You' had already spend ages in my pre-release chart so it was going to enter eventually. This week seemed like a good week to enter - it was never going to be a top 10 contender.

I actually quite like this and it's performed better in my chart than 'Civilisation' which didn't chart for me upon its release. It finally made my chart after a few weeks after the track was used in a TV commercial iirc, and it just brought the track back to my attention.

Have to admit, I've not liked this anywhere near as much as I have done with Bruno's previous tracks - even the tracks where Mars was the featured artist. 'Marry You' is good but that's about it for me. Good enough to make my top 20 but as I posted above, this was never going to be a top 10 contender.

:lol: Not really a "one week wonder" as that applies to songs that go to #1 only to fall away 7 days later. Dappy took a sharp(ish) drop purely down to the block of new entries above it. 'No Regrets' was never going to be a monster hit for me - I like it, but it's not the best singles in the charts imo.

'Inescapable' is alright and has entered my chart albeit just about scraping in at #36 - the chances of Jesssica Mauboy dropping out of my top 40 next week are more than likely. Scarlette Fever and I Am A Camera both scored more points from me in the final. Dajana got my 12 points but overall the quality of the last contest wasn't as good as previous contests.

Oh yes, check out 'I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix)' on YouTube. It's an excellent remix imo and really makes the track sound more "pop" than the original.

1. When I entered Lykke, it was her FIFTH appearance in BJSC (shameful I know :drama:) and she's never been vetoed before and I'm sure she wouldn't have been this time. Clearly only Darren Hayes was too cheap for the contest this month - no, I don't know why either :lol: You could always send it next month instead! It wouldn't be a contender to win because there is only one realistic contender this month, but it would have certainly been a contender for 2nd place!

2. Like with most songs, promotion = $ucce$$! I suppose if it ever did make it to the UK it would only make the Radio 2 playlist and barely go anywhere chartwise :(

3. Fair enough, it happens occasionally in my chart - I'd rather have a returning #1 than a non #1! But I suppose the way I compile my chart compared to yours makes it more likely as I'll often chart a song at #1 as an album track or international single and then I get into it all over again when it gets a UK push and I'm hearing it everywhere, a la Release Me. Or around Eurovision season where a song goes to #1 after I hear it in the national final, and then if it wins that and goes to Eurovision I end up loving it again three months down the line and it returns to the top a la Fairytale/Satellite!

Great chart!

1. When I entered Lykke, it was her FIFTH appearance in BJSC (shameful I know :drama:) and she's never been vetoed before and I'm sure she wouldn't have been this time. Clearly only Darren Hayes was too cheap for the contest this month - no, I don't know why either :lol: You could always send it next month instead! It wouldn't be a contender to win because there is only one realistic contender this month, but it would have certainly been a contender for 2nd place!

2. Like with most songs, promotion = $ucce$$! I suppose if it ever did make it to the UK it would only make the Radio 2 playlist and barely go anywhere chartwise :(

3. Fair enough, it happens occasionally in my chart - I'd rather have a returning #1 than a non #1! But I suppose the way I compile my chart compared to yours makes it more likely as I'll often chart a song at #1 as an album track or international single and then I get into it all over again when it gets a UK push and I'm hearing it everywhere, a la Release Me. Or around Eurovision season where a song goes to #1 after I hear it in the national final, and then if it wins that and goes to Eurovision I end up loving it again three months down the line and it returns to the top a la Fairytale/Satellite!

 

1. :lol: Had you entered Lykke Li previously in BJSC? I'm not too bothered about Darren Hayes to be honest - I've never been a fan and he's never released a single I can honestly say "I think this is excellent". It's just various levels of good, ok and bleh!!! :lol: Lykke Li won't be a contender now and if someone else was to enter this, it wouldn't be a discovery so would lose points from me because of this. Just like last month where I didn't give any points to 'Hollywood Hills' because I already knew the song and had already charted the song.

 

2. It's tracks like 'Somebody That I Used To Know' that make me realise just how empty the UK charts can be at times. These last few weeks have been terrible for the UK charts - so many "one week wonders" that have struggled/are struggling to spent more than 8 weeks in the top 40. In the age of unlimited downloads, that's a really worrying sign.

 

3. Oh definitely, this has been covered in great detail over the years have different our compiling methods are. It'd be an absolute miracle for a song to go 01-05-13-24-37-21-08-02-02-01-01-01-04-13-10-06-33-X-18-XX-09-03-38 etc... Ok, slight exaggeration there ( :P ) but there are only two songs in the history of my chart that went top 10, dropped out of the top 20 and somehow managed to return to the top 10 weeks later; 'Don't Bother' by Shakira and from earlier this year 'L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.' by Noah & The Whale. As I've mentioned many times, I do like to have some kind of order in my chart. There are exceptions to the rule but these are very rare.
