songs being deleted after x amount of weeks is not showing the true popularity of a song, and therefore loses the charts validity - I love how older songs can rechart because that shows their popularity and classic status

Why the mellow face? :D

Below is the reason why 'The Golden Age' is selling. It's currently top 10 in Austria because of this.

 as in I have no idea what that is. Now I know, I rather like it, and I have heard it before actually :)

Hmm, I wouldn't be TOTALLY against this, unlike most people here. I've always looked at the charts as a window into what's going on in the music scene at the time (although that's a bit of an old-fashioned view considering there are several components of the music scene that never get into the charts these days) and while I don't mind the old songs cropping back up it still feels more than a bit pointless to me and doesn't "show" anything except people still like those boring, overplayed songs.

That said, if the aim is of helping the lesser acts... well, it would be a bit unnecessary improving their position by a few spots (especially since their SALES would still be the same, which is what the record companies are interested in anyway).

So basically I'm saying I wouldn't care if it was done but it would be pretty pointless anyway in the grand scheme of things for the record companies.

Wasn't that a rule they once had and got rid of? Or have they brought it back now?

Then again, the US charts are completely messed up with their ridiculous rules anyway so another one would hardly hurt.

(For the record, as a general rule, I disapprove of any 'a song gets disqualified if [x]' situation with the exception of excluding free downloads)

When it comes to the albums charts they got rid of the rules after Michael Jackson's increase in album sales after his death, allowing his old albums to chart and also allowin Amy Winehouse to chart again after her death.

However on the singles chart it's a different story... If a track has been on the chart for over 20 weeks and has dropped below the Top 50 it is no longer eligible to chart. Also if a song is older than 18 months it can not re-enter the chart unless it has been re-issued/re-released by the record company.

I really wish it woud reach the T40 (at least)!

It would help more lesser known acts break the top 40.

Noel Gallagher's AKA What a Life at #38

Jay-Z's Otis would be at #39 and

David Guetta's Little Bad Girl would be at #40.

Is this the best example of "lesser known acts" breaking the Top 40

Well a lot of people didn't know Noel had gone solo. But mostly because no1curr :kink:
