Progress didnt have a second strong single though. Kidz is one of their best imo but when do you ever hear it played or on tv..never. Compare that to Shine and Up All Night that both regularly get played on tv/covered etc so in fairness it sold 2.3 million on the back of one single and media hype.

The Flood wasn't handed in a good manner at all, it was pushed forward but the promo for it was the week after release. We know that if The Flood had been released on the same week as the promo scheduled (XF on SUnday and CIN on the Friday) then it would have sold 150k and gone straight to number 1.

I still think the promo for singles was mixed because of Rob. He lives in LA and it must have made it hard to organise time to promote, especially as they had already broken tour and album records.

Yes, quite easily, we already have 10 million album sales give or take a few thousand so I think the next milestone is doing it all again and edging towards the 20 million albums. I definately think they have 3 or 4 studio albums left in them

Ya progress lacked a proper second single as kidz was truly messed up. The flood i agree and dont agree with, yes had the promo scheduled (XF on SUnday and CIN on the Friday) then it would have sold 150k and gone straight to number 1 is fair and due to it not happening they lost out on a number 1, that said it did get good promo and it has sold over 500,000 which is great. I agree i would like them to build up some more decent chart placings, many of their single releases have been messy and all over the place and i think they need to think the singles through better as in promote at the right time and tie the promo and releases together better.

I would like to think we will get at least 3 more studio albums but im just greatful for each one and enjoy it, if they do 3 more studio albums and an enivitable greatest hits and then continue to sell the older albums in small quantities they could potentially bring take that phase 2 up to 20 million uk sales whether they will stay together that long and remain as popular is yet to be seen, as i always say they are only as good as the material they come up with and if that standard drops so will sales.

Thing is now with a band like take that due to their success, over the coming years we are sure to get greatest hits, best of, ultimate collection, number 1's etc type releases they are now probably a band that sell those kinda album in 20 years time as the fan base will be there.

The question is do people concentrate on sales or chart positions? I am sure Take That and the record company would be looking at the sales aspect and with the exception of When We Were Young and Id Wait For Life the other singles sold and I would not brand them flops as from what I have researched all the singles have sold over 100,000 with the exception of the forementioned. I do agree the potential is still there for Take That to have even bigger single success and I agree the strategies for singles need improvement in order to achieve greater success.

I do not see Take That stopping now and believe they will stay together for many many years yet, the pace of work will slow down, greater gaps in between albums will occur but I agree with Jay727 that they definately have 3 or 4 studio albums left in them at the least and furthermore, I agree with Aphrodite that over the coming years we are sure to get greatest hits, best of, ultimate collection, etc type releases, as these style releases are common practice for bands years and years on from them recording.

Im not sure the Greatest Hits will sell on the same level as Never Forget though as most people would have BW,TC and Progress anyways. Perhaps they could package a GH alongside new tracks, like Progressed. Having 1 or 2 discs for the GH and then a separate EP syle disc as well

The material following their reformation has never had a Greatest Hits release and while people have bought the individual studio albums it does not say they would not purchase a Greatest Hits as many would purchase it on a collectional basis, that said, some new recordings would have to recorded and added to make it worth buying for the fans and also provide fans with something new.

Not sure what their strategy will be in relation to Greatest Hits packages in the foreseeable future, my own thoughts and opinions on it are release a Greatest Hits with material since reformation and add new tracks with at least one of the new tracks used singles to promote the release.

That said, I would think the strategy from the record company would be do as forementioned, then a few years down the road release another Greatest Hits that would include all their biggest hits from era 1 and era 2, songs such as when we were young for example would not make this cut.

Further on down the road again release the Ultimate Collection or The Very Best of that would have a mixture of hits both old and new and possibly throw in some album tracks. Then, even further down the road again release the Complete Collection and it would be advertised as for the first time ever all Take That's singles on one package.

Many of these releases will only be bought by hardcore and loyal fans although released on mothers week or valentines week and they could obtain extra sales. That said, none of these style releases will match Never Forget: The Ultimate Collection success but will nevertheless make money. These releases would be over long period of time so you never know how they would be recieved. Essentially Never Forget: The Ultimate Collection is the same as the original Greatest Hits release just it has 1 extra song and I dont think anyone thought that would ever outsell the original Greatest Hits and yet it went on to sell almost double the amount.

A greatest hits will do well enough for them and will no doubnt be released and probably in time for the christmas market, i cannot see it selling as big as previous album or the ultimate collection but i think a million is possible. And i agree about the definitive collection, best of etc style releases down the road as its fairly common nowadays and are nice reminders of take that in years to come.

Take That are lucky as they have done enough now to be remebered and are probably one of the very few boy bands who will be remembered fondly in many many years to come, in terms of comebacks they will always be regarded as one of the greatest comebacks if not the best comeback, as a take that fan i or we are quiet lucky as im sure bands like Blue, East 17 still have a following just in smaller numbers but their comebacks have failed but for the take that fans we got royalty really and we got some fantastic material from them aswell.

Take That have managed to achieve a cross over market which is hard and they have captured their market well, i cant see them spltting for a very long time and i still hope we get a good few albums from them yet(studio( if that happens im sure we will also get quiet a few albums in the style of live, best of, best of b sides etc thrown in their aswell to fill gaps in between studio albums.

How would people feel about a best of b sides album to fill a gap, would you buy it?

Yeah I probably would to be fair, but they would have to chuck on a couple of news one to make it appeal to the general TT fan. Didnt Boyzone do the same thing a few years back? How did that get on?

Yeah they have the classics as well as Patience SHine, RTW, GD, TF and SIA and even The Garden that get great radio and television play and are just as classic as BFG, Pray and NF. They will all be played for years and years

The Boyzone greatest hits did quiet well i think around 400,000 and they aint near as big as Take That. Yes definitly a few classics like you mentioned isnce their return and a few big hits aswell, that with some new tracks could do well.

It is my belief a new Greatest Hits would do very well and if new tracks were added and one used as single to promote it the package 1 million sales could easily be achieved.
Yes 1 million is definitly possible especially if they release in time for the christmas market, its definitly an album that would be bought by fans and also a bought as a christmas gift.
Yeah but if they release a GH's I hope it's not at the expense of a new studio album. For instance if they said this Christmas 2012 they would be releasing a GH and then we would have to wait till next year for a new album. I hope that isnt the case

Rumours suggest work has started on the brand new studio album, this considered, my prediction for a Greatest Hits release would be November 2013.
Ya i think we will get at least 1 more studio album before a greatest hits release, so all going well new studio album this year and greatest hits the following.

Nice surprise this week, progress live climbs 19 places to #81 this week. :yahoo:

The dvd is a non mover at #6

Id love to know how many copies the DVD has sold

Me to, im sure it will be a million seller though.

I hope the live cd can stay around the charts for a few weeks, with sales been so low it may just hang on, nice for it to et at least 10 weeks in the top 100, 12 would be better ie 3 months!!

Me to, im sure it will be a million seller though.

I don't think the DVD will sell a million. The Circus DVD hasn't even reached that DVD landmark yet - and that stayed at number 1 for about 11 weeks and a further 50+ weeks in the top 40.

I thought and stress the word thought that the Circus dvd had passed 1 million sales just before christmas? Also didint progress live have much higher sales in its first 2 weeks than the Circus, if memory serves me correctly progress live sold almost 180,000 in its first week on sale.

I don't think it did (it is nigh on impossible to find out exact sales for DVD's - usually you only get first and second week sales - then you judge by where a music dvd is in the chart compared to subsequent 'first weeks' to gauge the sales. Its last confirmed sales figure was around 700,000 about 18 months ago - possibly a bit longer.

Definitely not. The first week sales of The Circus DVD were significantly higher than Progress. I think I posted a comparison but I can't find the thread anywhere.

Well in a sense im happy with that news as there is no doubt that while progress was a fantastic tour it wasnt in my opinion as good as the Circus which i think is almost unbeatable but i wont say totally unbeatable as i will end up eating my words.

Indeed, DVD sales are alot harder to obtain than single or album sales for some strange reason, hopefully, one day we will get a dvd sales update on the dvd sales.
