August 3, 200619 yr Oh well.. It's Electronica... if you put Goldfrapp here, I can see DM, too... there ain't a proper forum, tho' LifeLight well both would have gone in the indie forum but mute got gobbled up by Emi (which thankfully means that all most of the mute cat gets cheap in the sale ) i would say DM are more Darkwave and alternative, almost electrogoth in some parts (im keeping the 1980s out of it as i dont know much about that pop synth stuff, my DM comp dont go that far back). as for Electronica. think that might be an american-catch all term for a lots of things, for the dance tunes you find playing in an indie club and the stuff thats downtempo anyway remember to vote yes for this http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=11608
August 3, 200619 yr the thing that REALLY cheeses me off with Depeche Mode is the way they treat theirUK fanbase.... after 25 years of solid support for the band, when they deem to play in the UK, it's always a few scattered select venues.... Birmingham, Manchester and London - nowhere else, and for someone living in Cardiff, no easy way to get to any of these venues. Now, with their live DVD, instead of recording their homegrown and most loyal fanbase in the world - the UK - they decide to record this concert in bloody Milan - Italy, for the record, hardly bought Playing the Angel at all, unlike the UK. I think for a Brit band to do this, and to constantly snub their homegrown fanbase, who, unlike any other world market, has stood by them from Day One, is shocking, and a huge blip on the career of the band IMO.....
August 3, 200619 yr they were always much bigger outside of the UK. Sad but true. Anyways - I just saw them in Benicassim for the first time! Been a fan for over 15 years and what a treat to finally see them. The best part was... they were GREAT! I danced myself silly (so yes tigerboy, you can dance to DM ;)) and had a great time over all - and so did the others I was with (only 1 other big fan in the group). I wasn't expecting that much (New Order, a similar group of similar age/ilk bored me to tears at Glasto for instance) so it was great. They changed a lot of the versions/intro's to keep it interesting (but I still knew what song it was by the second bar ;)) Edited August 3, 200619 yr by IndiElectronica
August 3, 200619 yr Indi - I've been a fan since Day One - since Dreaming Of Me... and whilst they've had passing success in other territories (the US in the late 80s for example), they've never been as consistently popular as they have on their home turf. In the States, they're a spent, forgotten force - and have been since the early 90s. Even Germany, where DM were colossal at one point, has all but lost interest these days - the singles did a fraction as well in Germany as they did in the UK for the last few albums. Italy all but ignored Playing the Angel, so it seems at best bizarre to record a Playing the Angel live show in Italy. The UK is still their strongest, and certainly most loyal, fanbase.
August 8, 200618 yr i'd love to see some sales to prove that... No one i know (in the UK) gives a **** about them... except for some of my older friends (er.. .my age (30ish)) who USED to listen to them... They were HUGE in the US tho.. used to sell out arena's...
August 8, 200618 yr well if you like them press here  http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=13987
August 9, 200618 yr 'Precious' was one of their biggest hits in the UK... ever. Here's all their UK singles chart placings (highest position in brackets, length of chart run at the end).... they're still having big top 20 singles...so someone in the UK must still care.... 04/04/1981 Depeche Mode Dreaming Of Me 57 75-{57}-64-63->4 13/06/1981 Depeche Mode New Life 11 55-54-43-27-21-19-15-12-{11}-15-18-31-42-57-74->15 19/09/1981 Depeche Mode Just Can't Get Enough 8 44-24-12-11-{8}-12-17-22-33-46->10 13/02/1982 Depeche Mode See You 6 40-31-10-8-{6}-11-13-27-42-59->10 08/05/1982 Depeche Mode The Meaning Of Love 12 34-{12}-17-15-17-21-46-72->8 28/08/1982 Depeche Mode Leave In Silence 18 52-33-21-23-{18}-19-22-25-50-70->10 12/02/1983 Depeche Mode Get The Balance Right 13 32-22-22-{13}-15-26-40-62->8 23/07/1983 Depeche Mode Everything Counts 6 41-26-16-10-{6}-7-14-22-28-46-71->11 01/10/1983 Depeche Mode Love In Itself-2 21 35-26-24-{21}-22-35-62->7 24/03/1984 Depeche Mode People Are People 4 29-9-5-{4}-6-9-20-36-50-74-80R(2)->11 01/09/1984 Depeche Mode Master And Servant 9 24-12-11-{9}-14-24-33-50-69->9 10/11/1984 Depeche Mode Somebody/Blasphemous Rumours 16 29-{16}-17-32-54-64->6 11/05/1985 Depeche Mode Shake The Disease 18 32-25-21-21-{18}-29-31-44-67->9 28/09/1985 Depeche Mode It's Called A Heart 18 21-{18}-36-53->4 22/02/1986 Depeche Mode Stripped 15 23-{15}-22-40-56-76R(2)-81-95R(2)->8 26/04/1986 Depeche Mode A Question Of Lust 28 29-{28}-30-41-71-89R(2)-100->7 23/08/1986 Depeche Mode A Question Of Time 17 25-{17}-20-33-42-68-94R(2)->7 09/05/1987 Depeche Mode Strangelove 16 23-{16}-20-30-49->5 05/09/1987 Depeche Mode Never Let Me Down Again 22 {22}-26-29-55->4 09/01/1988 Depeche Mode Behind The Wheel 21 32-{21}-24-47-75->5 28/05/1988 Depeche Mode Little 15 60 61-{60}->2 25/02/1989 Depeche Mode Everything Counts {1989} 22 34-23-{22}-24-38-58-74->7 09/09/1989 Depeche Mode Personal Jesus 13 25-{13}-14-19-30-43-65-75-86->9 17/02/1990 Depeche Mode Enjoy The Silence 6 17-{6}-6-6-12-20-32-52-62->9 19/05/1990 Depeche Mode Policy Of Truth 16 28-{16}-18-30-51-70->6 29/09/1990 Depeche Mode World In My Eyes 17 28-21-{17}-22-46-66->6 27/02/1993 Depeche Mode I Feel You 8 {8}-9-22-39-50-56-75->7 08/05/1993 Depeche Mode Walking In My Shoes 14 22-{14}-41-61->4 25/09/1993 Depeche Mode Condemnation (EP) 9 {9}-22-43-68->4 22/01/1994 Depeche Mode In Your Room 8 18-{8}-28-56->4 15/02/1997 Depeche Mode Barrel Of A Gun 4 {4}-23-48-74->4 12/04/1997 Depeche Mode It's No Good 5 {5}-16-31-48-73->5 28/06/1997 Depeche Mode Home 23 {23}-26-47-67->4 01/11/1997 Depeche Mode Useless 28 {28}-64->2 19/09/1998 Depeche Mode Only When I Lose Myself 17 {17}-39-61->3 05/05/2001 Depeche Mode Dream On 6 {6}-28-48-72-75R(4)->5 11/08/2001 Depeche Mode I Feel Loved 12 {12}-31-43-54-69-72->6 17/11/2001 Depeche Mode Freelove 19 {19}-37-58->3 30/10/2004 Depeche Mode Enjoy The Silence '04 7 {7}-15-24-41-67->5 04/12/2004 Depeche Mode Something To Do 75 {75}->1 15/10/2005 Depeche Mode Precious 4 {4}-16-26-48-71->5 24/12/2005 Depeche Mode A Pain That I'm Used To 15 {15}-46->2 08/04/2006 Depeche Mode Suffer Well 12 {12}-38->2 17/06/2006 Depeche Mode John The Revelator/Lilian 18 {18}-58->2
