Posted October 27, 201113 yr Many UK acts have been making it big Stateside the past 4 years, (especially after the inclusion of downloads in the sales charts) after a dry period of 10 years. Adele, Coldplay, Taio Cruz, James Blunt, Florence & The Machine , Natasha Bedingfield all scored big hits there , yet many very famous UK acts still refuse to launch their careers Stateside. In your opinion which UK acts have a big shot of making it big there, and if u were their manager/record label, which 3 singles from their repertoire would you choose to launch them stateside??? Here's a list of UK acts which i think have a big shot at success in the US and the 3 singles i would choose to launch them: Alexandra Burke : (her musical style which is R&B pop is very successful in the States and it is a big shame that she hasn't yet releasing anything there + she has already worked with many famous producers & rappers) I think she should release 'Bad Boys' as her first single there since it has Flo Rida in it + it's very catchy, 'All night long' (with Pitbull) as her 2nd single since Pitbull is huge in the US, and 'Start without you' as her 3rd single but with a rapper maybe Lil'Wayne to boost her profile there. The Wanted : their sound is very US friendly, they are about to release 'Glad you came' in the US which works well as a debut there, 'All time low' would make a great follow-up and 'Lightning' as a 3rd since it's very college pop-rock. Professor Green the British Eminem could work there as a novely since the americans have recently become fond of the brit accent, 'Read all about it' could make a good debut there if he features a famous US singer , 'At your inconveniance' as 2nd single (very early Eminem), and D.P.M.O as a 3rd single. JLS they should release 'Beat again' featuring a rapper (cliche i know but would work there) maybe Nicki Minaj, 'Everybody in Love' as the 2nd single and 'She makes me wanna' featuring Dev as 3rd single. The Saturdays: (their songs are really catchy & actually some of them have the potential to become hits there) I would choose 'Higher' with Flo Rida as the 1st single to lauch them Stateside since it's very dance-R&B sounding, 'All fired up' as the 2nd , and as 'Forever is over' the 3rd. Pixie Lott: she is huge is the UK, yet nobody knows who she is in the US, 'Mama do' will do great as a debut there like it did worldwide, 'All about tonight' as a 2nd and 'What do you take me for' as the 3rd but featuring a famous US rapper maybe Ludacris for example. Lemar: has been huge in the UK & many other countries for years now yet didn't release anything in the US yet, his sound is very US friendly since it's soul-R&B, he should release 'If there's any justice' as his debut, 'The way love goes' as the 2nd and 'Weight of the world' as the 3rd. Scouting for Girls: very US college rock Blink 182 but with a friendlier sound. 'She's so lovely' 'This ain't a love song' and 'Famous' would make great career opening singles. October 27, 201113 yr Of that list I can't see the Saturdays, the Wanted or Lemar making it. Lemar's time in the sun in the UK has pretty much passed, and he'd be competing in a pretty full market in the USA. I'm not sure he'd offer anything the USA aren't already getting from Ne-Yo or Chris Brown. The USA are also fairly picky about which of our acts they take to their hearts - and generally it tends to be the credible acts who write/perform their own hits. I just don't see them being so big on our own rather faceless manufactured acts, which rules the Wanted and the Saturdays out.
October 27, 201113 yr Calvin Harris needs to capitalise off 'We Found Love' ASAP. 'I'm Not Alone' could be a decent sized hit there (it was for Chris Brown ), or maybe he could do a track with Katy Perry for his new album and use that to launch his solo career there - he definitely has the power to do that unless they're still annoyed at each other. And maybe Ed Sheeran could do things in the USA as well, he's sort of got a bit of a folk vibe like Mumford & Sons. And I've seen people comparing him to a one-man The Script and they're reasonably big in the USA. Edited October 27, 201113 yr by Bré
October 27, 201113 yr Lauren Bennett could be huge there if she started a solo career I think. Calvin Harris can do a song with Ke$ha if Katy Perry still doesn't like him. Or Rihanna could always return the favour. Edited October 27, 201113 yr by Eric_Blob
October 27, 201113 yr I can certainly see Ed Sheeran succeeding in the USA if he decides to give it a go.
October 27, 201113 yr I could actually feasibly see 'Glad You Came' being at least a minor hit in the US, but they would never make it overall. I'm quite surprised Alexandra never tried with all the high profile US names she had featuring on her tracks. Edited October 27, 201113 yr by Silver Rocket

The featured artists seemed to have been chosen (by Cowell) as a specific attempt to achieve success on both sides of the Atlantic.
October 27, 201113 yr From that list I can see Pixie Lott making it big in the States, and it doesn't hurt that she's gorgeous. I think JLS - Everybody in Love would do great out there. All other JLS tracks are pretty shitty. IIRC they tried launching EIN stateside with radio plugs but I don't think it went anywhere. As for Prof, it would be great to see him make it big out there but not sure it'll happen soon. Tinie Tempah had 1 mediocre hit (yeah it sold 1m but he's still relatively unknown) but the chorus on WITS got played the most. From all the ads I didn't hear Tinie's verse. Yeah, I remember Everybody in Love getting a push there, and it got top 1000 on iTunes, but that was it. Pixie Lott could do well, since she's signed to Interscope (Dr. Dre, Timbaland, will.i.am, Fergie, Nelly Furtado, Pussycat Dolls, Eminem, 50 Cent, etc.).
October 28, 201113 yr Scouting for Girls: very US college rock Blink 182 but with a friendlier sound. 'She's so lovely' 'This ain't a love song' and 'Famous' would make great career opening singles. Wut? Back to other suggestions, Biffy Clyro could do well in their next album era if US radio backs them. "Many of Horror" made #32 on the Alternative Songs radio coverage chart, so they aren't a complete unknown - in fact the US rock scene is generally quite good with at least taking a passing interest in what's going on over here, a vlogger I follow talked for a while about the Stone Roses reforming even though they never did anything in the US. So it might be easier for bands to make it over there than it is for pop stars.
October 28, 201113 yr I think the female singers would have a good shot Alexandra, Emeli and Pixie's current song is very American. Ed Sheeran may do well as he is a good rapper, Professor Green is too cheesy and his rapping makes him sound like a 10 year old.
October 28, 201113 yr Calvin Harris can do a song with Ke$ha if Katy Perry still doesn't like him. Or Rihanna could always return the favour. I recall Harris mentioning on Twitter that 'We Found Love' with Rihanna was the third single to be released from his upcoming album, so it'll appear on two albums. He said this after someone asked about a third single - he laughed, saying there's no need to release another when the third single (with Rihanna) is doing so well. I think he could definitely do well in the US - 'Bounce' and 'Feel So Close' are charting in New Zealand and Australia, it's just a matter of when and how he does it. People will no doubt have heard of him after 'We Found Love' now - although releasing a song to which he has the vocals may be a mistake; he's best collaborating with others to maintain a reputation as a great producer (in the US especially).
October 28, 201113 yr I thought Pixie's label already tried to push her in the States with Boys & Girl about the same time Everybody In love was making little to no impact. I remember both tracks were getting a little airplay on the Top 40 radio and Everybody In love was getting some spins on Rhythmic as well.
October 28, 201113 yr Alexandra Burke - Bad Boys feat Flo Rida as first single. All Night Long feat Pitbull as second single. Hallelujah or The Silence as final single, she also needs to be established to have a great ballad voice. The Saturdays - Higher feat Flo Rida as first single, easily the biggest potential! My Heart Takes Over or Issues as second single, need a ballad to show what they can do. All Fired Up as third single, a good dance track! Professor Green - Read All About It feat Emeli Sande as first single. Just Be Good To Green feat Lily Allen, could do well as Lily is known a bit in the US. Monster feat Example as third single, again sounds good and could potentially do well. Cher Lloyd - With Ur Love feat Mike Posner as first single, easily likely to be the biggest hit there out of her songs. Grow Up feat Busta Rhymes, he is well known in the US! Swagger Jagger as third single - could be the new 'Friday' or be an amazing hit!
October 28, 201113 yr jls and the wanted would not make it in the US. period cher could do well, they like her attitude out there..lets hope she doesnt release that awful song featuring ghetto Edited October 28, 201113 yr by jay727
October 28, 201113 yr JLS already tried and bombed. America doesn't want them. The Wanted, I see them being one-hit wonders with Glad You Came at best. Pixie should try with What Do You Take Me For and if that bombs then give up. Alex was a huge wasted opportunity. She had multiple US hits on that album but didn't bother with them. Cheryl Cole with the right material could do very well. "The British Britney" is a good way to market her. Professor Green is also definitely worth a shot. Like Cheryl, he can be marketed as the British version of a much loved artist and he's got Read All About It which could smash. Follow up with Just Be Good To Green and he could do well.
October 28, 201113 yr I'm really sorry but I highly doubt any of that list would be a success in US, it isnt very often british artists get huge success over in the states, its quite rare, the likes of the people you listed I cant see any of them breaking the US market. (ps : Groups, they wouldnt sell. Bands do, but not groups.)
October 28, 201113 yr I think I'd do this for Alex B over there: 01. 'Bad Boys' (feat. Flo-Rida) 02. 'Good Night, Good Morning' (feat. Ne-Yo) 03. 'All Night Long' (feat. Pitbull) 04. 'Broken Heels' 05. 'The Silence' That's if I had to choose from 'Overcome'. I just want a video for GNGM tbh . Such a good song
October 28, 201113 yr The only artist at the moment that I think could crack the USA that hasn't already tried is Maverick Sabre.
