See you about 4pm, Paul

Lovely! See you there Meg :)

That's a shame Nina :( I am hoping to come down again in December, so maybe wee could meet up then? Hope so :)

I don't know about other Flynns but Christie Brinkley's was Johnathan Wilkes. He's a well experienced musical theatre performer and has a lot of charisma but he's nowhere near as good a singer as Darius.

Tony Hadley made me laugh. He was not good as Billy Flynn but such a nice man and so obviously out of his depth in that kind of role

I've got a lot of time for Tony Hadley. I like his singing.

He had a solo album out round about then. I bought it and I enjoyed listening to it for a while. I must dig it out again.

I love Tony Hadley's singing voice, but his American accent made me cringe when I heard him in the 10th anniversary show ^_^

tbh johnathon wilks is too sweet lookig to play bf - think i saw a poster of him in panto this year and he looks too sweet lol- agree his voice is so so- but then i find john barrowmans voice a nothing voice and he is really popular.

lol, my oh keeps threatening me with tonights the night..he knows I cannot abide JB

JB seems like a really nice guy to me, but his voice, whilst good, is nothing exceptional. Certainly not from what I've heard of it anyway!

Just thought I'd say that I was at a JB concert last night and he was in fine voice. He is absolutely fantastic performing live. He was on for 2 hours and was note perfect the whole way through. He has starred in many Broadway and West End shows, don't forget, so while he may not be flavour of the month here, Darius would be very lucky if he could have even half of JB's success.

JB is 44 and his philosophy was always to accept every job because you never know where it will lead.

I heard him say that round about the time he got the role in Desperate Housewives.

JB kept working and the breaks came, including the ALW shows on BBC which helped to sell shedloads of his albums and support solo tours and he was chosen for the part in Doctor Who, which thanks to a good idea and a very well written spin off, Torchwood, gave his acting career a major boost. He gained popular and cult status pretty much at the same time.

Darius is 31. He doesn't take every job and seems to judge offers on terms of growing his skills or facing a new challenge. He's also got family commitments JB never had. Maybe Lady Luck will smile on him too or maybe she won't.

You like JB.

I don't.

As I said, I'd go to the ends of the earth to avoid him in anything and yes, I do know many others feel the same way about Darius.

Appreciation of all arts is subjective.

BTW his many Broadway credits amount to 2.

hey isnt JB 47...not that it matters, just I am sad enough to hope these older west end stars get old pretty quick and leave some gaps B-) , one mans meat is anothers poison

I thought he was born in '67.

Sorry, pip. You just have to look at the way John Owen Jones and Earl Carpenter have virtually kept control of the leads in Les Mis and Phantom for ages. They're sharing the lead in the new Phantom tour which is going out next year. There are a lot of superb performers with many, many more years in them Philip Quast and Henry Goodman come to mind as well.

Many of those actors just love the stage and that is what they want to do. They're happy to play the same role relentlessly. Every performance is a personal challenge. However, doing that would drive Darius nuts. If GWTW had taken the West End by storm, I personally very much doubt if Darius would have stayed beyond his original contract date, unless there was a Broadway transfer clause in the extension one.

And it's not just guys. How long has Amra Faye Wright played Velma in different productions of Chicago . The current Broadway Roxy is doing it for the eleventh time.

Not true.

2 more than Darius. :)

But as you say, we all like different things.

I hope that Darius performs in Birmingham at some point, as I will definitely go to see him. I haven't lost my admiration for him and I listen to his music as much as I ever did. Baytree's post, however, has made me realise that I no longer feel a part of the Darius community so I will bid you all farewell. :)

There were children involved in his relationship and living with them? I didn't know that.

Theatre tickets to return! Chicago was our first stop

by Tara Walsh on Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

We’re thrilled to have theatre tickets back on site soon (hopefully next week)! We love going to the theatre, it’s always a real London experience, and gives us an excuse to feel cultured!

Last night we were lucky enough to see the incredible Chicago in London’s West End, starring Ugly Betty’s America Ferrera and the very impressive Darius Campbell from Pop Idol (remember the Britney Spears routine?).

Scantily clad men and women opened the show with Velma (Amra-Faye Wright ) performing the famed ‘All that Jazz’ to a rupture of cheers – we were hooked. Barely blinking throughout the entire performance, the musical numbers, dancing and acting had us captivated – and of course, those outfits didn’t hurt!

Darius Campbell played the role of Billy Flynn flawlessly. His smooth, smarmy way fitted the character perfectly and we can see why he is the youngest actor to play the role, he was brilliant. His solos were powerful and controlled, something he no doubt learnt from his stint on Popstar to Operastar.

America Ferrera however, is not your typical Roxy Hart. Frumpy and unattractive were the criteria for her character Ugly Betty, but in Chicago she was sexy and wowed the crowd receiving several standing ovations with her witty performance and seductive singing. We especially liked the puppet routine with Darius Campbell. It was funny and charming and we wish there were more scenes like that!

We thoroughly enjoyed watching and left with an overriding urge to sing our conversations and dance along the street. If only life was more like a musical…

So keep your eyes peeled for theatre tickets on BrandAlley soon. With the fantastic discounts that will be on offer, it will make enjoying the arts that bit more affordable. Let us know what your favourite musical is? Chicago is topping the bill so far for us!
