In previous years the xmas #1 was sewn up in advance - Take That last year, Susan Boyle in 2009.

This year though, there is no clear winner on the horizon - contenders are Westlife (GH), Rihanna, another Susan Boyle and my fave contender, Michael Buble.

Thoughts?

It's be funny if Bublé gets to #1 because he'll absolutely plummet after Christmas - could he break Xtina's record?

I doubt he'll be #1 though.

For some reason I suspect he wouldn't plummet quite that low straight off - with Christmas Day falling on a Sunday, he'll probably sell enough digitally in one day to prevent a catastrophic drop for the week as a whole.

Buble will sell right up to christmas and possible the first 2 days of the new year and after that pilummet, but he will have respectable sales so the plummet will be irrelevant.

I think there isnt huge competition this year, rihanna, westlife and susan boyle the main ones at the moment, however i do think Take That's new live album will sell quite well, the last live album they released has sold around 700,000, and i think the new one will do pretty much the same.

I still think Adele is gona do well in the christmas period aswell and im also hoping Steps can do well out of it aswell.

I suppose so. Damn you Christmas, being on a Sunday ruins all the chart 'achievements'.

I wonder if that means The Pogues and Mariah will have a week at the lower half of the top 100 before dropping out then? So they'll slowly climb up for about 5 or 6 weeks as usual but then instead of dropping straight out they go 22-94-out or something.

In can still nonetheless see Bublé having a run like 3-4-5-5-4-2-2-1-1-13-92-out or something

Rebecca Ferguson's album is coming out around that time (December I think). I think it could have an Adele like success but worried she's left it a bit late really
I really hope it is Rebecca but knowing the British public it will be Barry Manilow or maybe Joe Mcelderry.

Barry hasn't had a #1 album since 1982 and Joe hasn't had one ever...

the amy winehouse album will be heavily front loaded by all her fans but i cant see any long term sales there especially as her duet with tony bennett has already been released for over a month and the rest of the album seems to just be covers of songs shes done already and old demo tapes that i suspect will have to be overly produced to bring them up to par..its just like the MJ album last year but at least 9 of the 10 tracks were new tracks.

buble will do well, he will easily sell close to 2million, susan boyle's sales last year werent that great to be honest but i still expect her to sell 100k+ in the first week although again i cant see it commanding much long term buying power .

westlife...well i dont know what will happen here. lets face it, there last 2/3 album sales have been appalling by there previous standards, however a final greatest hits (until they try a Take That comeback in 5 years) should do quite well, especially as their lead single is probably their best in a good few years. Maybe a 100k+ opening sales and then a steady 50,60,70k a week up to xmas or maybe thats me being too optimistic.

jls will be heavily front loaded as usual and will fall after the first couple of weeks, judging on album sales perhaps 150k-180k first week then down to 70k the next then dropping further the weeks after like their last album. The wanted wont do number 1 but should make platinum.

olly murs did well first time around going platinum in 3 weeks but second time around is always harder as the charts show. released same week as Take That's live album which will sell strongly as usual.

cant see adele sales increasing to be honest. most people who were going to buy the album have got it and most people who werent going to buy it have got it as a gift over the year. not that she needs the sales anyways.

rihanna will be interesting. i dont think it will match her loud sales but it should sell a million over the Christmas period

coldplay should sell a few more copies of MX but i cant see it matching the 1.2million VLV sold 3 years ago.

jay727, as much as I like your posts, you seriously need to use this more often:

All small letters is not as easy to read as you would think! :D

Caps lock is easier to use than shift IMO. You just have to press it, type, then press it again instead of having to hold it down. :D

No way! The Shift key is alot easier - and that is how people are taught to type (well, I was).

Well I personally can type a hell of a lot faster using Caps Lock than Shift.

Lol yeah its an old habit when my shift button wouldnt work and my caps lock was broken!

I would forget to switch it off every time I used it though as shift is temporary and caps is lock on/off. This surely gives more finger strokes and takes longer?

I would appreciate it if you could use it more now you have it. Ta.

Or it makes your posts harder to read.
