Im happy with that and a good idea, eight letters has always been a huge fave of mine from the album and i listen to the song alot, the only negative i will say about eight letters is im not sure it was the most suitable song to close the shows on.

Hmm, I didn't expect that, I thought they would have (if anything) gone with WWWY as it already has a video and status as the final single of this era.

That said i love Eight Letters and so it will be very interesting to see if anything comes about from this

Single wise it wont do much but it certainly wont harm dvd or album sales, and should give them a nice little push.
I think eight letters is a lovely sweet track and one of the very stongest on the album and probably the song that was nearest to the material on the previous two albums. Its a good marketing idea to increase dvd sales but moreover may add a few extra album sales aswell.
I love 8 letters and i agree sound wise it was the nearest of progress to sound like the circus and beautiful world, as much as i love though i still prefer the flood and love love.

It appears that Eight Letters is the promo track for the Live DVD/CD then as they have just released an official music video for it

I have to admit - the song does sound better with all that footage going on. I wasn't actually going to buy the DVD but damn you! I'm going to have to now!

I always liked 8 eight letters but the video montage makes it more epic in some ways, i still think 8 letters is worth promoting as it could do half decently especially this time of year, it really should have been released instead of the likes of when we were young and kidz.

Watching the video has kinda made me see why they choose it as the song to close the show, as i always thought it was a weird choice to close the shows with.

The video does make it more epic, I love when it pans out at the end and you see Om's heart beating! I never saw that when i saw them at Wembley!

Not sure it would have done great as a single though, however as we all know if TT got their promo/vid/physicals all together for the week of release Kidz could have easily made top 10, Love Love could have made top 10 and WWWY would have at least gone top 40.

Im just happy to sit back and watch it all again, roll on album number 7! (which definately looks like it will be just 4 of them as Gary said on Alan Carr last night)

I never get as excited about dvds as i do about cds, the video has made me more excited for the cd more than ever though but i still am looking forward to the dvd aswell.

The odd thing is - I still love Take That - and I'd go to a concert of theirs like a shot no matter what. Its just Gary is really getting too big for his boots. And I don't care what anyone says - his writing for other people is severely lacking. Whilst his writing for/with Take That remains excellent!

The thing that got me of the snap from the dvd though - was actually Rob's face - there was one bit where he looked genuinely - happy! Weird as I've always thought of Rob as a villain before - but maybe - just maybe - I can see where his fans were coming from.

I can see the song writing point about Gary, and looks like the songs he is writing for others just arent connecting with the public at all, run for your life by matt cardle had a high debut but plummeted fast and now westlife look set to miss the top 10, in a way it rebutes my gary arguement i said before, no matter what happens gary should stick with take that as on his own it doesnt seem to go to plan, thats my fear if he does a solo album, while part of take that he is like magic as everything works and goes well but as asoloist it doesnt for some reason. Its the same i guess for mark, jason and howard.

In fairness we can't judge the song he did for matt and the westlife one on how he would do as a solo artist.

He said on twitter that he wrote lighthouse 3 years ago with john shanks so that places it around the circus era, so it was probably just a song that was lying around in a studio somewhere and didnt make the cut for the circus so Shanks (who produced their new GH) must have asked to use it or something

i think RFYL is actually a good song, not too dissimilar from patience in terms of chorus and bridge. It was playlisted on Radio 1 for a month as well. However his performance of the song on XF was very poor, he forgot the words at one point and he sounds like he was overthinking the song rather than performing it normally which made it sound a bit sub par. That's the main reason why it didnt sell as many as it might have done. As people hearing it for the first time wouldnt have been impressed.

To be fair to Matt though, as an XF winner he has to release his music months after other finalists have already got the ball rolling. If RFYL was released earlier, around the March/April period it would have definately charted higher judging by how poor the top 10 were selling on a weekly basis with a couple of exceptions. Then he could have come back to XF with one of his own songs knowing he already had a hit single which would help with the pressure of failing.

Matt's album of his own material isnt that great, so in all honesty RFYL was the best way he could have promoted it. Starlight wont go top 40 by the looks of it

I meant it more in a way that he has yet to have a big hit with a song he has wrote for someone else, he has managed big hits with songs he has wrote for Take That but not for others.

I like run for you life by Matt and i think the chorus is catchy and i was always a Matt fan when on xfactor as i think he has a great voice, but overall i think Matt fans regard run for your life as one of the weaker songs on the album, i think its to early to say how starlight will chart as it isnt offically released until 5th December but i think on the whole starlight is prefered by many of his fans to run for your life.

I think Matt fans were always going to dislike going for a song that wasnt his own as the lead single. Matt was billed as this singer songwriter who will be completely different to any other winners but his first single was written by another person. Ok he has written on 12 of the 13 tracks but only one of his own stands out. I hope im wrong about Starlight as i really want him to do well, but i cant see it charting well or encouraging people to buy letters. Just hope he gets an XF slot again but i guess thats unlikely
I have heard that Matt is going to perform on X-Factor again with Starlight, Starlight from reviews, fan comments and so on appears to be more popular than Run For Your Life. It appears that many people feel Gary gave Matt Run For Your Life as it was a left over song that Gary himself did not see fit to use for Take That so that may have led to some resentment towards the song by many.
I think some people thought he was trying to cash in as such on garys name and that he thought he would just automatically have a huge hit as gary wrote it, but that didnt work really and it went the opposite way really.

Shame it hasn't broken the iTunes top 1000 yet but then the album has sold over 2 million so it's no huge shock.

Such a great song though, definitely my second favourite from Progress and I wish it had been a single earlier!
