November 15, 201113 yr Author I expect RiRi to prevail - she has a far bigger fanbase, and a massive #1 single. I just don't see One Direction as an albums act - in that respect, many people seem to be confusing them with Take That. :)
November 15, 201113 yr Author I predict that 1D will beat Rihanna. I was beginning to wonder if their fans really existed at all. :P
November 15, 201113 yr Rihanna should be #1 with 100k or so I imagine. One Direction not too far behind 85-90k possibly.
November 15, 201113 yr Hmm I keep changing my mind, Rihanna on X Factor Sunday night is a massive advantage but then I see that Amazon have chosen One Direction as the cheap mp3 deal next week and not Rihanna and that may be a reasonably big factor in a tight battle. Plus I just read this: "Pre orders for One Direction's Up All Night rose 200 per cent on Amazon after their performance of Gotta Be You. " It's also ahead on pre orders/best sellers on most charts but then Rihanna hasn't been available as long has it? It's going to be as tight as JLS/Robbie I reckon, but can see SYCO pulling out all the stops with signings/promo and then there's the gimmicky slip cases thing that worked so well for JLS first time around vs Rihanna being the biggest she's ever been. Hmm too close to call! Sales for both will prob reach about 150k as a result of the 'battle' I think, regardless who gets the number 1 that week, Rihanna will easily get the biggest overall sales I'd have thought.

November 15, 201113 yr The Wanted and Cher didn't sell many albums last week so with them tenously being a mixture of them I woulda said Rihanna by a clear distance... But I see 1D riding high in alot of preorder charts so they should do alot better than those artists, dunno if they'll beat Rihanna though, probably not. I'll be more interested to see if they beat Rebecca's album sales.
November 15, 201113 yr Rihanna 160k One Direction 140k Just a gut reaction, 1D don't have two singles the size of JLS' first two so won't get close to 200k.

I would argue "What Makes You Beautiful" was bigger than "Beat Again" - even if it wasn't it felt like it, I haven't been able to escape it from radio since its first ever play, anyway, JLS were actually good in their first era and I liked them until TCIA. But still I don't think 1D have the fan base to beat Rihanna (I'm slightly biased, if you know me you'll know Rihanna is my favourite act and I hate 1D). If Gotta Be You is losing out to We Found Love's 7th week then I think Rihanna is much bigger  Team Rihanna! :yahoo: Edited November 15, 201113 yr by danielXF
November 15, 201113 yr Total bias again :P but I actually think 1D will underperform. Maybe because I hate them and love Rihanna but idk. They'll obviously still clear 100k but RiRi will comfortably win. Deservedly so, Talk That Talk is bloody AMAZING - even the worst track is 10x better than both of the so called 'songs' 1D have puked out so far... I'll say 150k for Rihanna and 120k for 1D.

Anyway, what's critical is that "Gotta Be You" won't make #1 and won't make a great deal more than half of "Everybody In Love"'s 125k first week figure. It wasn't great but EIL is a solid enough ballad and did an excellent job in setting the album up, not something you can say about "Gotta Be You".
November 16, 201113 yr What did JLS sell their first week of their debut? Maybe similar to that for OneD? I really think Rihanna will get the #1, she's proved she is an album seller as well as single seller! :D
