Emmerdale's well good. Valerie Lambert is the second best comedy person on soaps after Blanche.

OMG Valerie Lambert is funny as 'eck.

I love Chastity- the last time I watched it was when she had a catfight with that short haired woman. :kink:

Yeah he went down for three years for starting a fire and killing his mum in 2000! :o

'Emmerdale' star fighting mystery illness

Veteran Emmerdale star Clive Hornby has been forced to take a break from the soap due to ill health.

According to The Mirror, the 63-year-old is fighting an unnamed illness which could threaten his future on the ITV1 show.

Hornby is Emmerdale's longest-serving cast member after making his first appearance as Jack Sugden 28 years ago.

He recently insisted that he loved the programme and had no plans to retire, saying: "I can't believe I'm still here sometimes. Some of the kids in the show weren't even born when I started.

"I can't imagine leaving - it would be the death of me, that. I'm happy to be doing it as long as they want me doing it."

A show spokesman said: "We can confirm that Clive is unwell but fully intends to return to work."

Hornby has filmed episodes to be broadcast up to mid-February.

true... inconsistency has always been emmerdales main fault, but it can turn within one episode, bringing very dry, tongue in cheek , satirical humour which i find very appealing .

Eastenders fault is that it's too consistant and boring. Just misery and violent.

Vulgar language removed.

I'm not keen on Jack at all hope he gets better soon but they shouldn't keep him on the show too much longer imo :(

oh dear... i like jack, hes a great cantankerous old bugger!

did you know he was in the charts back in '64 as part of a group 'the dennisons' with their silly song 'walk the dog'...

I find it amazing how, over the years, the character of Jack has changed. When he came into it in the 70's (when I first started watching it on-and-off) he had travelled Europe and was a bit of a poet and a bookworm. He used to really wind Joe up because Joe was the serious 'farmer' type and he saw Jack as the 'Bohemian'. I can't really imagine the present day Jack reading a thoughtful novel or spouting poetry ... but the old Jack did.

By the way ... I love Emmerdale! Unfortunately - my husband's hand is glued to the remote as long as Hollyoaks is on a channel somewhere!

Much better show than that sh*tty "Corro". That wedding was pathetic last night, all the people sobbing during the vows, and Maria's stupid smile.

I cannot beleive this sh*t killed off TOTP, it's "Jumped the Shark", and the idea of a wedding storyline is lazy scriptwriting when they have run out of ideas.

Maria isn't even that great looking anyway, it's just loads of foundation on her face, and her hair style isn't great either.

There are no exciting storylines, apart from the Richard Hillman murders, while with Emmerdale it's more real life, and the storylines ae brilliant, like the Cain getaway mission.

Yea, he went to Italy to write a book the original Jack did :). Andrew Burt his name was, even appeared in an episode of "Crown Court".

when the baby was born there was a moment when they 'almost' gave the babies to the wrong parents ...... and now that other set of parents are still in the show ........... do you think we will soon find out that the babies had been mixed up and it is actually Arthur that died
