Emmerdale topped the 9m marker yesterday evening for the first time in nearly three years, continuing its run of impressive ratings for this week's episodes.

The Yorkshire serial's double bill, during which Sally attempted to kiss Ashley and the Bartons discussed Aaron's sexuality, drew 8.3m (32.3%) and 9.03m (33.2%) at 7pm and 8pm respectively. Its second episode peaked at 9.54m (34%) between 8.20pm and 8.25pm.

Emmerdale last breached the 9m ceiling on February 5, 2007 when it had 9.14m (41.1%).

Coronation Street's standalone outing at 8.30pm, which saw Joe ask Ted for a £4,000 loan, took 10.65m (37.9%). Its repeat at 1.30pm on ITV2 added 102k (4.4%).

Contrary to last week's poorest Thursday performance since the ITV schedule revamp in July, yesterday evening's combined figures were the polar opposite - the best the commercial broadcaster has seen since July 23.

Meanwhile, EastEnders pulled in over 10m viewers for the fourth consecutive day, drawing 10.68m (40.1%) from 7.30pm - almost equalling its Christmas Day audience. BBC Three's 10pm repeat added a further 826k (3.5%).

BBC One's Doctors also averaged an impressive 2.46m (22.2%) for its episode, titled 'Dance To Keep From Crying', at 1.45pm on BBC One.

Neighbours' latest edition took 1.47m (7.6%) at 5.30pm, while Fiver's 7pm repeat added a further 210k (0.8%).

Despite the snow, Hollyoaks' figures have decreased each day this week, with last night's instalment logging 1.34m (5.4%) at 6.30pm. E4's first look interested 559k (2.2%), before 189k (0.7%) switched over to E4+1 for the repeat an hour later.

Delighted with the boost in ratings this week. So well deserved. Emmerdale is unmissable right now.
Can someone help me, who is the woman with the red hair? Is it the one who played Joh Paul in Hollyoaks' mom?
interesting... spineless mark has been discovered, creepy sally has been given her marchng orders... a promising week for the uk's best soap! :P

Cringe when Natasha walked in on them!

:P

Whilst brother and sister are doing it upstairs.

fantastic episode last night! :)

what a dramatic ending, plus brother and sisters shagging upstairs!

What a shocking discovery to make finding out you've been getting it on with your own flesh and blood!

Quality episode tonight! Can't wait for tomorrow's double!

Who on earth is watching The One Show when Emmerdale is on these days?!

brilliant episode! one of the best ever.... pity it involved those on short contracts and not main characters (THE dramatic storyline)... but it was full on quality, great acting and humour... emmerdale is p***ing all over eastenders and corrie.
it was, but emmerdale isnt regarded as 'cool' amongst the young n trendy, the thread didnt attract many replies, so it was 'unpinned'.

It's miles better than dreadfulenders

Pointless post alert.

Rob you realise it's only Mark who's on a short contract? I think they did well to include subplots involving Jimmy/Nicola and Charity/Cane to balance out the fact that all of the drama involved relatively new characters. I absolutely loved Charity and Cane's little tiff and how it was resolved by him dragging her off for sex. Fabulous.

you think natasha, faye, maisie and ryan are on long term contracts? i doubt theyll see another crimbo in the dales.. their inclusion in the soap culminated last night, doubt theyll become 'regulars'. i was refering to the storyline as chas/cain, jimmy/nicolas storylines were pretty incidental...but great nontheless. .... actually in a 'normal' programme they would have been great anyway.

They are regulars. Whether they'll become long-term is another thing but they're all in it for at least another six months by which time they'll have been in the Dales over 18 months...

Tonight was stunning. Natasha wowed me and Maisie collapsing in the kitchen was shocking/unintentionally hilarious. What drama!

Just wow. What a fab double bill tonight.

Our whole family roared with laughter several times when Maisie was going wild! Amazing.

Thank god he's dead. Best acting he's done, lying there dead :D

Bless Maxwell. There were times tonight when you could spy a genuine flicker of emotion on his face!

The Maisie freakout was classic!

:D

I've never really taken Mark seriously, all i picture is the geeky English guy who fancies Michelle Pfeiffer in Grease 2.

:P

So does the killer get done then?

It was a good double bill but maqisie ruined it for me, so over acted it was funny in a bad way, ryan and faye were great as was natasha , good episodes as i said but ruined by maisie

you know full well what i meant <_< .... regulars to me mean perminant... dingles, kings, sugdens, betty, turner, ashley etc... emmerdale has always had their long term cast members and those who are in it for a year or two.

i never liked maisie, but ive been converted, her performance recently has been great!

... and wow! i never saw thatcoming! thought it was a hit n run death....
