Oh God, I absolutely love Paddy (and his relationship with Aaron). He's just so cheery all the time! I wish I could be like that (actually I don't, I love being miserable).

I do agree actually that Emmerdale does male characters better than Eastenders. Cain is a riot isn't he? Sometimes he's laugh out loud funny, sometimes he's throw-eggs-at-the-TV horrible, but either way you never know what he's going to say or do next and that makes him really watchable. Love Carl too and how he constantly overrules poor Jimmy.

And I really liked Rodney's date the other night! She's more than welcome to stick around!

.... i even like nathan now, love to hate him... a good character, a complete tosser but its strong characters that make a soap and emmerdales got it spot on.
Excellent episode tonight! Top class acting on show from Faye, Nathan and particularly the wonderful Charity. And so much shit hitting the fan!

SPOILERS in this new casting news.

Former Hollyoaks actor Marc Silcock has joined the ranks of Emmerdale, Digital Spy can exclusively reveal.

The 21-year-old - who portrayed schizophrenic Newt's imaginary alter-ego Eli on and off between 2008 and 2009 - takes on the role of Jackson Walsh, a potential new love interest for sexually confused mechanic Aaron Livesy (Danny Miller).

At the end of last year, Aaron's world was thrown into turmoil when he made a pass at his best friend Adam Barton (Adam Thomas) following a car accident. With villagers gossiping about his true sexuality, Aaron was forced to try to cover his tracks and embarked on a relationship with Adam's sister Holly (Sophie Powles).

In the coming weeks, though, Aaron panics when his cover story Holly ends their relationship. On a night out with Eli (Joseph Gilgun), Aaron is tempted to visit a gay bar. When he eventually plucks up the courage to go inside, he's taken aback when Jackson takes an interest in him.

Speaking of Jackson's arrival in the village, Emmerdale series producer Gavin Blyth told DS: "Like Aaron, Jackson's a very contemporary gay character - he's not a stereotype. He's someone who exists in his own right in the world because of who he is - not what he is in terms of his sexuality. We've got to realise that for everything that Aaron's fighting, if he's ever going to let anyone in, it's going to be someone he can relate to.

"I also stated from the outset that I wanted Aaron's tale to be a very modern story of someone not only wrestling with their sexuality but also loathing himself at times for it and (wrongly) fearing other people judging him. If we're to play a relationship of any sense as Aaron moves forward, I want it to be a very real one, not based on clichés or stereotypes."

He continued: "And as, when and if the relationship goes anywhere, it's paramount that both characters can ultimately continue to drive the story beyond that of their sexuality."

Meanwhile, speaking of his casting, Silcock said: "I've always been a fan of Emmerdale, so I'm thrilled to be joining the cast. Jackson will play a big part in Aaron's journey and I'm so pleased to be involved in this story."

Exciting! He's slightly strange in appearance isn't he? Was he any good in Hollyoaks?

No, he returns in a few weeks.

natasha is the worst actress there, fcuk knows how she ever became a household name, belle dingle is better then her..

Belle is better than half of her family :P In all seriousness though I think Amanda Donohoe is an excellent actress but it's perhaps hard for her to make Natasha into a likeable character when the script writers seem to have her do nothing but shout at her employees (when all they've done is ask what they're meant to be doing that day) and sigh very heavily. She needs to develop a bit and interact with new people.

Sounds great. I think I'm most anticipating whatever happens to David and Leyla, which is kind of surprising since they're not my favourite characters by any means, I just reckon it will be interesting to see where he takes them. Going by the teasers it doesn't sound like Charity and Cain will be much at the fore though, which is a shame. :(

...i dunno, for an actress of her supposed calibre she should have taken to the part easily, i just think shes way over rated and is a pitiful actress on emmerdale. it aint about whether or not shes liked, its about producing a believeable performance... imho shes rubbish! 'nathan' however is developing into a fantastic character, behind that smarmy smile lurks a darker side to him..i like screen baddies, and he is shaping up to be a good un!

What an ASTOUNDING episode! I positively cannot wait for tomorrow...
tbh i reckon emmerdale has rarely been as good as it is right now... so many great characters, i just hope that nathan returns (no mention of this on wiki) :(

I only started watching in September of last year so I'm not in much of a position to agree or otherwise, but going by youtube clips and old episodes I've watched I think that it probably isn't as good as it was between about 1995-2005, back when it had the likes of Kim and Zoe Tate, Tom and Sadie King, Scott Windsor, Chloe, Bernice, Tricia, all those classic characters who were completely recognisable to soap fans, regardless of whether or not they watched Emmerdale regularly. I definitely don't think any of the soaps are quite what they were ten years back for that matter. But that's not to say Emmerdale isn't essential viewing at the minute!

Tonight's wasn't as good as last night's but still enjoyable and rather tense. I'm so SICK of Sam/Olena/Eli now though!

most soaps go through periods of good and boring storylines, imho emmerdale is pretty consistent, and has been since i started watching it regularly back in the early 80's. its the only soap that i can watch regularly.

Emmerdale recently recovered from a very bad phase IMO. For a while it was carried by a few characters, in particular the Andy and Jo domestic abuse storyline.
sally is a woderfully dark character, creeping around, just dont look too hard otherwise youd be saying 'as if'... (creeping around the village unseen?....i dont think so!)

I think if this was EastEnders you most certainly would look too hard and say 'as if' :P I have to agree though, it's delicious fun seeing her being a maniac, even if it's through something as simple as spelling Ashley's name on the fridge.

Totally random but did we know John Middleton who plays Ashley is 20 years older than Charlotte Bellamy who plays Laurel? I never would've guessed!
