I don't see any reason why they'd even have interraction, Paul being a good decade older than him and all. I hope they don't anyway.

agreed... just because they are gay doesnt automatically mean theyll 'get it on'.

lol.. yeah them sharmas are great characters. viv is consistently being viv. i doubt though that they will divorce, but tbh theyve had this storyline before, its tiresome now.
Former Birds Of A Feather actress Pauline Quirke has joined the cast of Emmerdale as Jackson Walsh's mother Hazel.

The 50-year-old - who played Sharon Theodopolopodous for nine years alongside Linda Robson in the BBC One sitcom - begins filming at the soap's Leeds home at the end of next month and her larger-than-life character soon finds herself at the epicentre of "an enormous and gripping storyline".

Free-spirited teacher Hazel arrives in the Dales on a whistlestop visit to see her son Jackson (Marc Silcock), who is currently being wooed by troubled teen Aaron Livesy (Danny Miller).

However, as one newly-single villager takes a keen interest in her, Hazel's jetset lifestyle is halted when she becomes embroiled in a "hugely dramatic" plot that affects the lives of both her son and his lover.

Speaking of her signing, Quirke said: "I'm really looking forward to joining the show, my mum was a fan back when it was called Emmerdale Farm, so it's always been a part of my life. The show has really moved on, it's consistently good, there are some great characters and great storylines, I've especially loved Aaron's story."

She added: "I've never done anything like this before so it's something different for me and I'm very happy to be a part of it."

Series producer Gavin Blyth commented: "I am absolutely delighted that Pauline will be joining Emmerdale at such an exciting time. She is a fantastic actor who I know will do justice to this character."

He went on: "Alongside Aaron and Jackson, she will be at the centre of an enormous and gripping storyline this autumn/winter. One to really look forward to."

Quirke's other acting credits include Skins, Casualty, Cold Blood, The Bill and My Family.

More recently, she starred as DS Mary Jane Croft in a second series of BBC One's daytime drama Missing.

I literally just CAN'T IMAGINE it. I'm sure it'll work out though, and if not Jackson's hardly a major player so she needn't stick around long.

I'm living for the day they announce Linda Robson has joined EastEnders (and no, that's not a joke - it would make my year).

Yea something about the likes of PQ joining suggests it won't be a very long-term thing IMO.

Aha with you on Linda in EE actually. She'd be perfect.

Good or bad stunned silence Jark?

jark being stunned into silence is always a good thing!

hmmm...... im not a big fan of pq. her 'maisey raine' thing was dire and in 'birds of a feather' im not sure she was acting... ill pass judgement on her when i see her in it, but for me, initially, i think shes going to be too much like catherine tate was in 'dr who', too familiar in other roles.

for now im liking the simmering madness that is nathan... loved the little dig about gardening to his mother 'shes good with a spade' (after burrying her murdered hubby). i like very much the males in emmerdale, a great mix of likable and entertaining characters.

not so keen on that drip of a girl.... holly barton.

Anyone doubting the brilliance of Pauline Quirk needs to see The Sculptress now - a performance, if it had been in a movie, that would'vehave gained her an Academy Award.... incredible.

My one bugbear with this whole Aaron/Jackson thing is...... Jackson really should be cuter. He's hardly the type of lad anyone would chase - especially 'fresh meat' like Aaron who, let's be honest, would probably be fighting them off in any gay bar across the land.

maybe... but im not sure i can get past her previous incarnations... we shall see.

are gay relationships alwaysdown to looks?

aaron said that he likes jackson because he understands him, how refreshing to infer the attraction is on a celebral level instead of carnal, that gets a big  from me!!! .. i like the fact that jackson isnt a pin up, hes an ordinary guy, that to me makes it more real and doesnt pander to the stereotype. again emmerdale excelling in this storyline :)

I'm not sure Aaron would be 'fighting them off'. Sometimes he looks good, other times much less so. His attitude if anything is what's sexy about him. Jackson's alright, not ugly.

Rob.... I can only presume you've never been on the gay scene :P The gay scene, more than any other, is completely shallow, relentless, brutal and looks orientated..... and the whole 'he understands me' thing.... hmm.... it doesn't wash - I think by now, in the gay world, if this storyline wants to reflect real life, Aaron would have completely forgotten about Jackson and have been through half that naff pub. Like I said, a new face = 'fresh meat' - he'd definitely be fighting them off - Jark, he's gorgeous! I agree his 'straight' attitude is as appealing as his looks, too, and how refreshing is it to finally have a soapland gay characted that isn't just..... vile.

Emmerdale's last gay character (soon to return unfortunately), was a hideous stereotype.... as is any gay character on Corrie (can somebody PLEASE do away with Anthony bloody Cotton - ugh ugh ugh) and Eastenders, where the gay characters are either camp or completely unbelievable (Syeed).

I think the gay scene seem to have embraced Danny Miller as their new gay idol lol.... judging by his many gay club appearances, anyway. Not hard to see why....

Agree with you 100%. The gay scene turns you into a lonely, bitter individual because you get nothing but knockbacks throughout the years whenever the prospect of a serious relationship crops up because all the queens are bothered with is sex. 'Been there, banged that - no need for follow up'.

The Aaron storyline has just been beautiful from its conception and the fact it has a truly talented actor behind it, makes me feel as if the soaps finally have a REAL gay character and not some stereotype. We're not all shallow, sex hungry fiends and maybe his idea of finding someone who 'understands him' is not in line with the usual M.O of the gay scene. I see it as him being human.
