Posted November 23, 201113 yr Ar_-v7dEEoo Starring Charlize Theron, Patton Oswalt and Patrick Wilson, written by Diablo Cody of Juno and United States of Tara. Looks pretty hilarious. "We can BEAT this thing TOGETHER!"
November 23, 201113 yr I think you're forgetting the most promising thing about this film. Jason Reitman. He has yet to make a mistake. Edited November 23, 201113 yr by ▲▲▲

November 23, 201113 yr Author I think you're forgetting the most promising thing about this film. Jason Reitman. I could launch into a big rant here about how contrary to popular opinion the screenwriter has just as important a role in the film that makes it to screen as the director. I do a film studies module which this semester is looking at authorship and basically involves lots and lots of being told that THE DIRECTOR is the author of the film and that screenwriters would like to THINK they're just as important but really THEY'RE NOT AT ALL. It's a bit disheartening for somebody who is planning a career in screenwriting I DON'T MIND TELLING YOU. But I won't.

It's a bit disheartening for somebody who is planning a career in screenwriting I DON'T MIND TELLING YOU. But I won't. Eh. I know you like to have your QUEEN OF SHEBA MOMENTS but no. Cody has been hit and miss and only struck gold with Juno tbh. Jennifer's Body and majority of the last two seasons of Tara? No thanks. Reitman really hasn't set a foot wrong in my eyes and I've loved everything he's done thus far. SO COOL YR JETS.
November 24, 201113 yr I would like to DISSENT and say that Jason Reitman actually made a HUGE misstep with the execrable 'Thank You For Smoking' (and 'Up in the Air' was a mixed bag for me). Not that I disagree Cody went wrong with 'Jennifer's Body'. All that said I need this movie injected into my veins immediately. CHARLIZE.
November 24, 201113 yr Author It's going to be an AMAZING 12 MONTHS for Charlize between this (the critics' choice), Snow White & The Huntsman (the gay choice) and Prometheus (the blockbuster).

November 26, 201113 yr ALSO. His face when James Cameron won the directing Golden Globe for Avatar = Amazing.
November 26, 201113 yr Author This has become my most anticipated film now. Also it's getting some real buzz and there's chatter that Charlize could earn herself a Best Actress nomination which would be pretty awesome. This is definitely going to be her year.
November 26, 201113 yr Author Patton Oswalt is fantastic in the film and delivers a performance you might not expect out of him... so touching and funny and more than the mere comic relief you'd expect from the trailer. He gets a few key dramatic moments to sing and he really sticks the landing on each of them. I've had him chalked up for a Best Supporting Actor nomination for weeks upon weeks based merely on the early word, and I'm happy to see that vetted out after last night's screening. If he really puts in the work, he can easily find himself in that mix. Charlize Theron gives a stellar, bitchy, biting, layered, at times moving performance. Oswalt commented to me and my colleague Drew McWeeny at the after party that he thinks this will be, more than "Monster," the performance people will think of when they see her from here on out. And I actually think that may be the case. Unlike that film, for which she won the Oscar in 2003, Theron is exposed here, playing a vicious personality with no makeup to hide behind. It's a quality piece of work that should bring her another Oscar nomination. Suffice it to say "Young Adult" is quite possibly Reitman's most refined outing to date, his voice becoming clearer, his thematic interests taking further shape. It's a brutally dark comedy but it is a very adult piece of work, playing in hues all the more uncomfortable for how true they really are on a primal level. From HitFix. The real surprise about YOUNG ADULT is that it's not actually a movie about an unhinged woman trying to win back her ex-boyfriend (well, that's not ALL it's about). It's primarily a strange little love story about a one-time class beauty and a quiet little man who assembles action figures and lives with his sister (a scene stealing Collette Wolfe). But the real eye-opening thing about this movie how determined it is not to be any one thing or fit neatly into a genre; I find that ferociously refreshing. And back to my original point, I love that nothing that Reitman, Cody, Theron, or Oswalt has done to this point has quite prepared us for what they accomplish with Young Adult, a deftly smart and sometimes unnerving work that takes us down unpredictable roads and thrives in its dark corners. It simultaneously reminds us of the best and worst parts of the human soul, and shows us that a lot of people use both in order to get through the day. This is a great movie that doesn't use the usual tricks to show us how great it is. Sounds like it's going to be way more than just the dry comedy the trailer advertises.
February 5, 201213 yr Really enjoyed this. Charlize was great in it and I loved the chemistry between her and the guy from high school. The scene in the car where she laughs and he calls her mentally ill killed me. I was bracing myself for a really cheesy ending where she gets her story published and suddenly reconciles with everyone from her old town but I thought it ended perfectly.
