The Artist is a 2011 French romance film directed by Michel Hazanavicius, starring Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Bejo. The story takes place in Hollywood between 1927 and 1932 and focuses on a declining male film star and a rising actress, as silent cinema grows out of fashion and is replaced by the talkies. The film is itself a silent film and in black-and-white. Dujardin won the Best Actor Award at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, where the film premiered.

This is such a bold film. Definitely one to see at the cinema rather than at home, it's going to be all about the big screen experience. Getting lots of early Academy buzz too.

Really looking to see the movie...

That was so good and although the script was cliché it managed to captivate the atmosphere of those times. Beautifully shot, Jean Dujardin was incredible and such a nostalgic feeling. The soundtrack suited perfectly too.

I loved the scene with Peppy hugging herself with George's coat and the way they inserted speech in the film

This was incredible and the ending was just perfect. If that dog doesn't win Best Supporting Actor I will commit.

Why would you eat popcorn and nachos in a silent movie though? JUST SAYIN'.

Ditto. I loved the scene where he has a dream about the sound effects.
