Will Young deals with The Voice knock-back with beer!

Poor Will Young – it’s not really been his week, has it? First it was rumoured that the Pop Idol winner will be marking his ten years in the industry by becoming a judge on The Voice – and then it was revealed that in fact he hadn’t been given the position at all! So how did Will get over this rejection? He went out and got hammered of course (just like the rest of us would do)!

The final panel line up was confirmed on Thursday after tremendous speculation that Will had bagged the last seat on the panel. But when the official announcement came – we heard it would be The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue joining Jessie J and will.i.am on the BBC talent show - not Mr Young.

So after a few cheeky and slightly annoyed tweets from Will, the Jealousy singer decided the only way to deal with this news was to go on a bit of a bender – and so he did, with his bezzie mates.

A source said, “Will went to The Joiners Arms, near his flat in Hackney, east London, with a few mates. He seemed in a remarkably good mood and was definitely enjoying a few drinks. Then after a fair few drinks, he hit the dance floor as Rihanna blared out.”

We have to say, we love Will’s style. If that was us, we’d be crying into our white wine somewhere in town, but we love the fact that he went out and had a good old dance with his mates instead. A brilliant way to get things off your chest!

However if there was one thing Will's night on the tiles didn’t help - it was his hangover. The poor fella tweeted the next day, “Major hangover. Just need to get these legs to work.”

We love him even more now. Will, we hope you’ve recovered!

Pleased he is getting support from the media - it could so easily have gone the other way big time.

I'm amazed too. :)

Danny had better shine in the role or the producers will have scored a massive own goal.

They already have! Danny who from what??? The show's a joke that not many will find funny! It's crap Will's been exploited like this, but good to see him shake it off so easily :) This show will miss him a WHOLE lot more than he misses it!

Really? I'd give O'Donoghue a chance personally, he's a talented bloke and has experience of being in two very different bands. I think it was important to get someone on the panel who's not seen as a solo star (will.i.am is as known for his production and collaborations as he is for BEP these days) and he ticks that box, even if Ricky Wilson would have been more fun.

I don't intend on watching the show in the same way i was intending to now. I'll still watch just flip through it.

I was really fuming when i found out Will had not been given over this Script dude.

Whatever!

Oh well, they'll come crawling back when it flops and the possibility of will young becoming a judge on X Factor remains.

ITV would have snubbed him if he had taken it, i think he can now remain like this but it's only a matter of time till

he gets such a role.

I think the real reason is Tom Jones will bring the older audience in. Will i am the cool lot. Jessie J the chart lovers. So they

where missing a rock element. So either Tom or Will and i think they wanted one legend on there so that made that decision.

I don't get why Will.i.am is there, apart from all the Cheryl work he's done, i find him untolerable.

I was looking forward to this show before Will's name was even mentioned, but started to go off it when they began to announce the judges.

In the end Only Will would have got me to watch it...its called the voice its supposed to be all about the voice, yet most of the judges cant a song all the way through in tune. ....no different than the xfactor which i stopped watching years ago.

The mix of judges is an absolute dog's breakfast. If they are trying to interest all sectors by the judges they have chosen they will struggle to garner nevermind maintain interest. They need judges who would appeal across the board, not one group each. I can't stand will I am, I don't wish to watch Tom Jones, JessieJ is just a show off based on dressing up, and Danny ODonoghue a lightweight who now has to prove he deserves to be there.

I liked the idea but the reality is ugh, and add Holly Willoughby and daft Reggie Yates into the equation, you've not got a watchable show in my opinion.

Swap the names over and you'd have the opinion that people had on Pop Idol / The X Factor when they started down to a tee. These things are always met with scepticism, isn't it actually better to watch the thing and judge it first? Bitterness over Will Young being dropped from the judging panel isn't a particularly solid reason to boycott a show.

Explain please. For all you know there could be hundreds of thousands of people who never watched any of those shows because they didn't like whoever on the panel. I can't stand Amanda Holden, Michael McIntyre, etc and have never watched Britains Got Talent for exactly that reason. Even if Will Young had never been mentioned or interested in this show I would have had the same views of those individuals selected. I might have watched it if my interest in the show was greater than my dislike of particular people but after the producers have messed up with Will like they have I won't help their ratings. If it's a runaway success good for it, watching's still not compulsory.

Actually I think you'll find it is, I stopped watching talent shows after Pop Idol and anything involving Simon Cowell and Lois Walsh is a no no. I can't abide Gary Barlow now either and as for The Voice I would have only watched if Will had been in it, believe me, I can survive without having to watch another talent show. :D

Looking back at major talent shows of the last decade or so I don't think I've ever had an affinity to any of the judges with the possible exception of Michael McIntyre. The majority of them I actively dislike but I enjoy the show regardless because it's an entertainment programme and more often than not they're unintentionally hilarious.

Aargh, Michael McIntyre!! :arrr: Nothing would get me to watch him. Well alright, if Will was going to be with him, I would make an exception but that's it. :D

I would prefer to find something else to do than watch a show where I disliked most people on it, just in case they managed to entertain me. There's plenty of other things to do.

The truth is, if it weren't for Will being linked to the show, I probably wouldn't have even known about it! I don't like the fact that IMO he's been exploited for publicity, but it won't harm his career any by not appearing on this show.

I'd guess BBC have another Fame Academy on their hands, which IMO was a poor attempt at emulating an already ailing ITV reality music tv show. Without Will, I don't think I'll be tuning in <_<

Thats why i stopped watching the xfactor years ago i still watch BGT ..but i am waiting to see who the judges are to see if i will watch the new series.( so its not Just The Voice i am doing this with)

Its not bitterness that stops me watching the voice, this was a show i was interested since i first heard about it, but i was not going to commit myself until i saw the judges because that would show me whether the BBC was taking it seriously or going down the crappy x factor route.

If you had read Will's website when the first judges/presenters were announced you would have seen massive dismay, lots hoping he would not do it ...it was obvious it was not going to live up to its name, it was only Will that was keeping those people interested.

And when the BBC choose the one in the script they said he was a good looking lad and gave a good line in chat, what does that have to do with mentoring especially when the show is not supposed to be based on looks ( thats why the chairs face the opposite way  )

Full stop the point of the whole show is VOICE.

Will.i.am cannot sing.

Even cheryl was better here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0WZ-TYhzKc

Will young defines VOICE. He has talent show experience.

Will even said he wanted it, so it's not like Will turned it down. Think Will doesn't like X Factor

so he considered The Voice because he is all about that. I'm pissed really, it's all about homegrown

talent and Will is one of the best.

The USA chucked off the brit we sent - Cheryl. Why should we be so welcoming time and time again

Will.i.am should not be on this panel, Will should.

I'm still pissed as you can imagine! Don't think its gonna do anything for Will's career either way, this show won't

get X Factor ratings it'll do alright thats it.

Another Fame Academy? Really? "The Voice" actually has some global precedent, it's done very well in the US and their version is responsible for the second biggest song of the year over here. It'd have to be catastrophically bad to fail over here.

They were never deciding between will.i.am and Will? will.i.am was already confirmed on the panel before the final two were announced, so it's a fairly pointless comparison.

Also, since when did Louis Walsh have the X Factor? It's about judging and mentoring, not being a potential contestant.

Yes and Will was clearly the best guest mentor X Factor as ever had.

Although the show would have upped Will's profile in the short term I'm sure it wasn't Will's main motivation for wanting the role. He is serious about nuturing talent and sharing his experience and is why he runs master classes and workshops.

If Danny was chosen because he's a good looking chap with good chat, who can grow into the role perhaps it isn't the show it's been purported to be & Will is well out of it.

Oh come on, this is the BBC doing this, they're capable of importing any successful programme and turning it into a major flop. So You Think You Can Dance being a prime example.

They've not got to worry about attracting huge advertisers to finance it, they've already spent the licence payers 20+ million and they'll just shrug it all off if it fails, just like they do the monstrous amounts of money they pay some of the stars they employ.

OK, Christina and Adam's song was a huge hit. What happened to the eventual winner, how did their song do?

LOST VOICE GUTTED ME

ABOVE: Will Young was frustrated by the BBC's snub But the support from fans has been overwhelming

Will Young

11th December 2011 By James Ingham

WILL Young has spoken out for the first time about getting kicked off the panel for new BBC1 reality show The Voice.

The original Pop Idol was replaced at the last minute by less- er-known The Script singer Danny O’Donoghue, bottom right.

And he told me yesterday: “Of course I’m disappointed not to be doing the show, not to mention how it’s been handled.

“But the support from fans has been overwhelming.

“They really have been amazing.”

After going out and drowning his sorrows following his snub, Will is now looking forward to bigger and better things for 2012.

However, there is one thing over Christmas that he’s dreading. Putting a brave face on things, he told me: “I’m devastated that Pat Butcher is leaving EastEnders. I also wanted to play Pat’s love child.

“Now I won’t get my chance. It’s traumatising for me.”

Knowing Will, top right, it’s no sur- prise he’s putting on a stiff upper lip.

Best foot forward and all that.

But my sources behind the scenes paint a different picture.

An insider said: “Will is obviously annoyed.

“He thought it was a done deal.

“Most people agree it’s been handled really badly.”

With another No.1 album and sell- out UK tour already in the bag this year, I reckon the Beeb have made a right balls-up not employing Will.

He’s not only perfect for the channel but he has ten years’ experience of being at the top of the charts.
