Yes and Will was clearly the best guest mentor X Factor as ever had.

Although the show would have upped Will's profile in the short term I'm sure it wasn't Will's main motivation for wanting the role. He is serious about nuturing talent and sharing his experience and is why he runs master classes and workshops.

If Danny was chosen because he's a good looking chap with good chat, who can grow into the role perhaps it isn't the show it's been purported to be & Will is well out of it.

In your opinion, there's no 'clearly' about it. And no talent show is truly about the talent, it's an entertainment programme - hence why the X Factor has become such a massive clichéd parody of itself. The BBC has clearly done its research and knows what it wants from the judges on the show.

So just another X Factor, as I said Will is well out of it.

Missed the Star article earlier. Thanks Sunday.

“Most people agree it’s been handled really badly.”

With another No.1 album and sell- out UK tour already in the bag this year, I reckon the Beeb have made a right balls-up not employing Will.

He’s not only perfect for the channel but he has ten years’ experience of being at the top of the charts.

Is the X Factor the only talent show? No. The Beeb could have gone for the straight-edged "Strictly"-style approach but have instead realised they need to actually make a show that beats the competition at its own game.

So it's priority ain't about talent and the unknown 'personality' of Danny O’Donoghue is gonna provide tht spark to beat the competition. If Danny was such a perfect choice why didn't they use his name in the mediia to generate interest? Simple because most people would have said Danny who?

What a pity it didn't let Will know that until the very, very last minute. Instead of that. they obviously leaked the names of the prospective judges, their names were bandied about in the press for at least a month. Will is a clever man, he has one of the best management companies in the country, and do you think they were all completely out of their tree imagining Will had the role. Of course not. The BBC used Will's name, let him and X1X believe it was a done deal, and then dropped the bombshell less than 24 hrs before the final line up was announced.

Of course Will is furious, what did he turn down in order to keep three months of his time available I wonder.

Absolutely. I said the same thing to my son - he's been involved in a huge amount of contractual meetings of various types. He had to have been further into the process than just a "Oh Will would you like to take part"..... which prompted him to say "Words escape me".

If they knew what they wanted why did they invite Will then drop him for someone more "rock" ?

Thanks to Mrs soul on Baby D for finding this. Good to see him validating his Tweets with a 'proper' comment and thanking his fans for their support. I bet he was really pissed off

Will Young criticises the BBC for 'handling The Voice axe badly'

Will Young has hit out at the BBC after bosses chose to appoint The Script's Danny O'Donoghue over himself as a judge on upcoming X Factor rival The Voice.

Will Young Will Young made his name when he won reality show Pop Idol

The Pop Idol winner had been lined up to appear as a judge on the BBC singing contest, but was axed last minute in favour of The Script singer Danny O'Donoghue.

He told the Daily Star: 'They wanted to go more rock.

'Of course I'm disappointed not to be doing the show, not to mention how it's been handled.'

Young added: 'But the support from fans has been overwhelming. They really have been amazing.'

The singer had previously shown a flair for work in front of the camera, recently hosting BBC music panel show Never Mind The Buzzcocks.

Late arrival to the The Voice O'Donoghue will be joined by Jessie J, Tom Jones and will.i.am as vocal coaches on the show, which is to be presented by Holly Willoughby and Reggie Yates.

The show proved a hit in the US, with Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera at the helm.

Maybe you could watch the show before judging? Being the frontman of an MOR pop band isn't exactly the ideal outlet for creating a media identity so it's hardly surprising people are indifferent to Danny now. It'd be the same if they chose Gary Lightbody or Ricky Wilson, and I think it was important to have a member of a 'conventional' band on the panel no matter how 'rock' they happen to be. You've already got two solo stars who pretty much cover most major demographic bases.

I think we may as well put this thread to bed now, Will's not involved as a judge on the show and so anything relating to the show concerning Will, can be put in the daily news, gossip and chat thread.

I'll close this topic now then. :D
