Two tweets this morning about him being in Cape Town.

Seems you were right Marguerite. There's going to be some disappointed people today.

Official BRITs Announcement: Britain's biggest music event goes fully digital

Britain's biggest music event goes fully digital

The BRIT Awards unveil new website, app and live Twitter feed

Plus the chance to blog live from the Awards themselves

Broadcast live on ITV1

For the first time ever, this year’s BRIT Awards with MasterCard will be fully digital allowing audiences at home to enjoy a truly interactive BRITs experience.

In anticipation of this year’s event, due to be held on February 21st at The O2 Arena, the BRITs’ have made a number of changes to their digital strategy which started with the launch of their brand new website (which can be seen at http://www.brits.co.uk). Fans can watch exclusive online video content from backstage and the red carpet on the night of the Nominations Launch via the website as well as on Facebook, YouTube and photo sharing service Instagram.

The BRITs new digital strategy will run alongside the exclusive main live broadcast on ITV1 as well as ITV’s extra coverage including ITV2’s Red Carpet one hour show, one hour post BRITs show and exclusive extras on ITV.com and their catch-up services.

Up and coming TV presenter Phil Clifton has been given the job as the official BRIT website presenter.

The official Facebook and Twitter feeds are already up-and-running, giving fans an insight into preparations and allowing them to discuss performances, nominees and gossip as we build up to the event. As the nominations will not be broadcast, the official @BRIT_Awards Twitter feed will be the first place to go to get live, rolling news of the Nominations Launch, with fans discussing the nominations as they happen using the hashtag #britawards.

The BRITs will also be running a competition on Twitter to find two bloggers to come and live blog from the awards. Entrants need to tweet why they should be chosen to blog at The BRITs in 140 characters or less and use the hashtag #britsblogger. Top entrants will then be contacted with more information.

In addition, The BRITs are set to launch their first ever iPhone app on Thursday 12th January, as soon as the nominations are announced. The BRIT Award 2012 with MasterCard app, which will be available as a free download from Apple’s App Store, will feature news updates and competitions and will also allow fans to vote directly for the three award categories voted for by the public, namely British Single, British Group and British Breakthrough Act. Mobile users will also be able to view photos from the event and buy their favourite performance directly on iTunes after the show.

Audiences can also make playlists inspired by the nominees as the BRITs have exclusively teamed up with Spotify to feature nominated artist playlists for the first time. The BRITs will also be the first award show in the UK to have high quality video footage available to view on the VEVO platforms at both http://www.vevo.com and VEVO mobile.

The annual BRITs compilation album will then be released on 13th February, a week before the awards themselves.

Another exciting initiative this year will also see MasterCard celebrate their 14-year partnership with the BRIT Awards by launching their exclusive Priceless Duets competition.  Something For The Fans offers a unique chance for fans to win a Priceless Duet with one of music’s biggest names - http://www.somethingforthefans.co.uk.

MasterCard has teamed up with this years Critics’ Choice winner Emile Sandé, BRIT winners JLS and Labrinth to offer the chance for their fans to win the opportunity to duet with them in a Priceless TV advert shown on ITV1 on the night of The BRIT Awards 2012 with MasterCard. For details of this very special competition visit the website or fans can enter via the app.

No Will Young today... but Stacey from Eastenders was there #random

I feel very hypocritical about the Brits. In truth, I couldn't give a monkey's toss about the whole fiasco but, I'm a Will fan, and if he's got a chance of winning something, I want him to win it. :D

I see on Twitter it's already out there that Ed Sheeran has 4 nominations (Gotta be Breakthrough, Male, Single and Album) Jessie has 3 (Female, Breakthrough, SIngle) and Professor Green has been confirmed as nominated for Best Male so hoping Best Male looks like this:

Ed Sheeran

Professor Green

Noel Gallagher

Will

Don't really care about the the fifth but probably James Morrison or Example.

BEST MALE:

- Ed Sheeran.

- James Morrison.

- Noel Gallagher.

- James Blake.

- Professor Green.

Absolute travesty. I can't even. f*** The Brits!!

hoping Best Male looks like this:

Ed Sheeran

Professor Green

Noel Gallagher

Will

Unfortunately it doesn't!

Feel absolutely gutted for Will.

Haven't you a panto ticket to buy hasso?

Edited by truly talented

I'm gutted too. :( I don't know why I allowed myself to think he would be nominated as my gut instinct lomg before tonight was that he wouldn't be. But then you see the undeserving ones who have been nominated...

I dare say Will knows more about the politics than we do though. Please God Will does not go presenting any awards etc this year so the whole fiasco can be given the wide berth it deserves by his fans.

Surely he won't be there this year.

Surely he won't be there this year.

I really really hope so TT but Will often takes a different route to what I would take! I would spit the dummy out big style but he often seems to have more grace than that.

I know. I just don't know how he can sit there watching the less talented lauded over him.

I am FUMING!

I mean seriously what the f***! i don't often swear but what a load of nasty bast*rds!

Ed Shreen i can understand

James Blake OK i get it

Noel yeah they Like him whatever

Professor Green can sorta understand

James Morrison i mean WTF!? seriously.

He's not had a great year, sold less than Will, did a duet with Jessie J that went unnoticed.

No.1 album yeah yeah, everyone's got those - Mr Young's got 3 :puke2:

I'm fuming he's not performing,i'm fuming he cannot win now, and i'm even more f***ing fuming he's not nominated.

Will have to wait wait 2-3 years for Will to do a studio album? and get nominated? and then Robbie williams will be there.

Brits you've never aknowledged him. It was always the public. He had such a huge year at the time of Leave Right Now and he didnt

win and wasn't allowed to perform.

Other artists who are 'cool' and 'in' have semi alright years and are welcomed tothe stage.

Brits oh how you never change.I really thought you'd see Will's talent this year after a great year this year with Echoes and Jealousy.

I've calmed down abit now! Phew, havent felt that angry in a while.

I'm sure he was 6th, and i know no one sat down and said lets not nominate Will this year, it was more of the case

that when ballots where sent out to thousands of members more people ticked those other names. Without anything

personal to James Morrison, i can understand the inclusion of everyone else but him on that least. He was below par

Will hype wise and sales wise, Jealousy was iconic and huge.

The dream would have been Will performing, Best male nom, Best British album (i know a longshot) and British single.

To sum up - a Number 1 album, 400k sold, Jealousy went Top 5, Jealousy No.1 Airplay hit with no end of career insight.

Actually no reality contestants where nominated bar automatic nominations for Olly and One Direction due to high sales of their singles.

Well at least we don't have to feel upset on the night when Will doesn't win as always, we all know he's best male anyway. It's between Ed Sheeran and Noel Gallagher for the award I think with Prof Green a small outside chance. The Brits are garbage now, they were rubbish before but totally laughable now. I wouldn't be surprised if Will goes on the night either and present an award, he'll go for the free booze and goodie bag.

I think Ed Sheeran will win. He is up for best album as well so it seems likely!

I expect Will to go, and have a good drink! ;)
