Will Young supports choral concert

Release date: Thursday 8th March 12

Pop star Will Young will be appearing at a council-backed concert at the Royal Festival Hall on Monday (March 12).

The singer songwriter is supporting choral concert 'Sing Inspiration! 2012', which features schools from Wandsworth, youth groups, community choirs and the igospel London adult choir.

The gospel-inspired event boasts a 500-strong choir from the borough, whose members are aged between eight and 80, backed by igospel's band.

In addition to the choir, the event will include performances from two new bands - one from Chestnut Grove School , in Balham, where Grammy and Brit award-winner Adele was once a student, and the other from South Thames College , which names Miss Dynamite as a past pupil.

Wandsworth Council has worked closely with youth charity Catch 22 in order to stage the Sing Inspiration! show, which has been running successfully in different guises for about nine years.

Over a period of six months the singers taking part received professional vocal coaching from igospel's experienced tutors and musicians, and this is culminating in the concert at the Royal Festival Hall.

The council teamed up with the national charity Catch 22 - of which Will Young is a patron - in order to give children and young people an opportunity to showcase their talents.

Wandsworth's cabinet member for education and children's services, Councillor Kathy Tracey, said: "We are very excited about the different elements of this year's concert - and delighted that Will Young has given it his backing.

"This year's choirs include pupils from primary and secondary schools, school staff, family members, and singers from a community choir and the age activity centre - an age range from eight to 80 encompassing singers from a myriad of cultures.

"Not everyone gets to perform on stage at the Royal Festival Hall.  We want to give people an experience they will remember for the rest of their lives."

The event is sponsored by the council's Family Learning and Lifelong Learning departments and Wandsworth Music Service.

Igospel.uk is a highly experienced team specialising in vocal and music tutoring, songwriting, audio production and event management.

The team has worked across London for a number of years engaging schools and youth groups - making a real difference to thousands of young people. It is the council's seventh consecutive year working with

Sing Inspiration! 2012: Wandsworth & the igospel London adult choir starts at 7pm. Tickets cost £16, plus a £1.75 booking fee - although Southbank Centre members do not have to pay the booking fee. Concessions are available for family and friends of performers.
