Another end of year charts.

 

03. Will Young | Echoes

This is one of the most straight-forward, cohesive, dreamy adult pop albums since Kylie Minogue's Aphrodite was released last year. Minogue’s collection was the dance party, whereas Echoes is the lonely drive home afterwards. Richard X reigns in his visionary production skills to create a subtle and sophisticated synthesized soundscape for Will to croon and belt over. This is easily Will's most focused and personal album, and therefore his best.

Will Young-Jealousy

 

 

Even though "Someone Like You" was very moving, Will Young channeled another emotion that is felt more often than heartbreak. The soft disco production by Richard X along with Will's amazing vocals work in favor of the listener, showcasing the pain of unrequited love without the stereotypical drink and dance my pain away dialogue. The video is what gives the song its life. Don't believe me? Watch it!

So happy he's been mentioned by so many..makes me hopeful for a few nods at the Brits..surely he'll be nominated in the Best male again? I'm so hoping he would get a nod for Best album too..wouldn't he be chuffed with that?

I hope it leaks sooner than that ( nerves wont take it :lol:) the voting was completed before the 16th Dec so the winners are already known, we should start hearing about the acts who will be performing on the night soon.

Will Young Conquered 2011

 

Will Young doesn't believe in New Year's Resolutions but compiles a list of the things he wants to achieve every year, and says 2011 was particularly successful.

Will Young has achieved everything he wanted to in 2011.

The 'Come On' hitmaker makes a list of targets at the beginning of each year, and looking back over the last 12 months, he is pleased to have accomplished almost everything.

He said: "I'm a big list maker, so I make a list of stuff I want to do, personally and work wise, and it works because it helps you focus.

"I wanted to do French lessons and I haven't, that was my big thing. And I wanted to do a cooking course, but apart from that, I've done everything else this year.

"I minimise my lists, sometimes I put things on there like 'breathe', so I can tick it off... No, I've achieved everything else I wanted to this year, personally and professionally."

Will has already began compiling his list for 2012 and has set himself a lot of professional targets.

Asked what is on his list for next year, he said: "Cooking course. The French lessons have been a bit sidelined, I was getting a bit too much like a retired person.

"I want to do more dancing, the dance show that I go on and on and on about wanting to do. Some more acting. Possibly a classical record but I don't think I'll have time, depending on other things. And a bit of a travel."

While he makes lists each year, Will insists he doesn't believe in New Year's Resolutions.

He said: "I don't see it as new year, new start, if you're going to do something, do it."

 

Thank goodness there's no time for the classical album. :P

Thanks to my friend Drew, I now have a fourth album I am obsessed with this year. Echoes is sexy, soulful, fall in love kind of music. Will’s voice begs to be heard over and over again. Will did much of Echoes with the songwriters also known as Kish Mauve. This track was actually released by them, but he wisely chose to re-record it with Richard X. It's a truly perfect single. For those who know it, the rarer Beatless Version is actually my favorite because if amplifies the flawless vocal.

It's New Years Eve and in a few short hours no one will care about 2011 anymore, and instead will be looking ahead to the gloriousness/apocalypse that is sure to come in 2012. So we'll save you the big into and instead get right to the good stuff.

3. Will Young - Jealousy

2011 was the year that Will Young reminded everyone why he is amazing. The "Kelly Clarkson of the UK" (he won the first ever Pop Idol tv show, even before American Idol existed...so really Kelly is the US Will Young but whatever) has really been going pretty strong since his first single back in 2002, but to be quite honest it could have gone either way for him after his greatest hits package. His first few singles were guaranteed success thanks to winning Idol, and then the flurry of press coverage when he came out cemented his status as a bona-fide media darling. Right about that time he proved he had the songwriting and vocal chops to be the real deal, and then...well, he just got kinda quiet for a while after releasing his retrospective. Diminishing chart returns on each of his tracks meant 'Jealousy' was released at a time when Young hadn't even appeared in the top 20 of the singles countdown in 3 years (though, to be fair, his albums consistently have been top 10 smashes). As the lead single of Will's fifth studio record, hopes were high. But they were all exceeded when this glittering synth gem gave us all a taste of Young's new, electro-chill direction. The Guardian said it best when it described the track as "stately." 'Jealousy' is a respectable, honorable, mature earworm of a song. And it's got some killer remixes to boot. Chart peak: UK - #5
