Thanks for the latest info Bev. Wonder if the tour is fact? Might be an identity crisis though - Emcee and Esme together!

Just been talking about this over on Baby D. Julie found a mention of it back in February and Will has dropped hints about it several times, that he'd love to play the part of the Emcee.

Julie posted this:

The Emcee is a pretty complicated role. He is, essentially, the story teller. He sees all, hears all, knows all, and doesn't have the fear to keep it to himself. He is the constant in the inconsistent world of Germany during the Nazi regime. When I played him, I used a pretty eccentric German accent with hints of Yiddish, but I'd consult your director on that if you get cast. I've always seen the Emcee as a tall, lanky fellow who can command the attention of the room/audience whether or not he is in drag. Obviously, when he is in drag, that commands a certain presence and bravery. Homosexuals were as bad as Jews during that time period. You'll need a pretty wide vocal range with a pretty good falsetto and you'll have to be a good dancer or, at least, very adaptable with movement

Reckon Will ticks those boxes :D

And this:

From a theatre blog dated 23rd March:

Quote:

while Bill Kenwright will bring his production of Cabaret to the venue as part of a small UK tour, with star casting expected to be announced shortly.

WILL YOUNG Memoir set for October 2012

Posted by Madeleine Feeny in Author News, Sphere

Little, Brown Book Group is delighted to announce the acquisition of Will Young's autobiography, set for publication by Sphere Books this autumn.

Antonia Hodgson, Editor-in-Chief of Little, Brown, acquired world rights from Simon Fuller's XIX Entertainment.

Written in Will’s witty, frank and self-deprecating style, the book will be a full autobiography covering all the highlights and dramas of one of Britain’s best-loved stars.

As a recording artist Will Young has sold 9 million records worldwide. He has been rewarded with countless Brit and Ivor Novello nominations and awards. His eclectic career began in 2002 when he was the first winner of Pop Idol. His first solo number 1, ‘Evergreen’, was the best-selling single of the decade. He has sold out Wembley arena and performed to a TV audience of twenty-five million on American Idol. In 2011 Will celebrated ten years in music with an hour-long ITV special and released his fifth studio album, Echoes, which shot to number one. He accompanied the album with a sell-out tour of the UK including a concert at the legendary London Palladium.

Will was the subject of a South Bank Show Special and has also appeared on Question Time (twice). He is an established actor, having starred in Mrs Henderson Presents with Dame Judi Dench; he also appeared in Noel Coward’s The Vortex at the Royal Exchange Theatre, was cast in a lead role in hit TV series Bedlam, and guest-starred in an episode of Skins. More recently he was a co-producer for Ralph Fiennes’ Coriolanus.

Will Young says: Writing this book has been surprisingly more fun and emotional for me than I would ever have thought. It often isn't until you look back on situations in life that you can see the real humanity, humour and madness of what was occurring… In equal measures!

Little, Brown are publishers of such range and depth, I knew that they would be the right publishing house for me, and the whole team is intelligent, supportive and great fun!

Antonia Hodgson says: ‘I’m very excited about Will’s memoir. He is a terrific storyteller and his writing voice is just as appealing as his beautiful singing voice: warm; emotionally honest and intimate. He’s also very, very funny. We can’t wait to publish in October.’
