To be honest, neither did I when the song first topped my chart. I honestly thought 2 or 3 weeks tops. The thing is I've ended up really liking this song more because of the brilliant video. It's amazing how a great music video can enhance a song purely with visuals. Likewise with 'We Found Love'. Both have easily been my fave two singles for the last month.

Again, you can thank the release of the music video for this. :D Whilst the video itself is your typical dance music video with isn't a million miles away from other dance music videos I've seen ('The Weekend', 'The Creeps', 'No Stress') - all of which are based on an office setting. It's just with the video getting more airplay, I've heard the song more times.

When I compiled my new chart last weekend I'd not even thought about the possibility of Azealia Banks making the shortlist, yet alone seeing '212' start to climb up iTunes. The timing couldn't be more perfect with me finally charting '212' purely off the back of its appearance in last months BJSC. :D With the track now taking off on iTunes, this could actually end up becoming a real long stayer and continue riding high into 2012. Iirc, I charted 'Dog Days Are Over' in late 2009 and it peaked in my chart at #6 a good couple of months later (it entered at #25 and very slowly continued climbing until it peaked about 10 weeks later :o ).

I agree that the Glee Cast mash up has really helped raised the profile of 'Rumour Has It' although oddly the music channels have started playing a live recording of 'Turning Tables. At least Adele's scored her fourth consecutive top 10 of 2011 with this track but it doesn't compare to 'Rolling In The Deep', 'Someone Like You' and 'Set Fire To The Rain' - all of which have topped my chart this year.

I agree it's not quite as strong as 'Heaven' although I'm surprised it didn't chart higher purely because iTunes were selling the track for 59p.

I've found The Wombats singles quite inconsistant. I don't keep a record of singles peaks between 21-40 (only my top 20 counts towards my YTD chart purely because my chart was only a top 20 back in 2004 and became a top 40 in 2005 but I kept the YTD points system the same). Apart from 'Tokyo' (#7 in my chart last year) all their other singles have peaked between 30-40).

 

I like all those new entries, which to choose? I'll probably go for Azealia. :wub:

 

I always vote for the highest new entry by default but with the BBC Sound of 2012 poll and the increasing popularity of '212' on iTunes, I think this track is going to become the most successful of this weeks new entries in the long run. Azealia for shock 09-01 climb next week? :o

10. It is better than I originally gave it credit for, but it's nothing on the other three, you're right. Don't know what's happening to Turning Tables.

 

37. Tokyo got to #7! That's really good, considering their status as 'indie landfill'. It's certainly a unique bullseye from them, it topped my chart for 4 weeks and ended up becoming my 3rd favourite song of 2010, behind 'Fireflies' and 'Happiness'. Jump Into The Fog did the same for me, but the others weren't nearly as strong and I've only bothered really charting those two and Techno Fan. Anti-D and Our Perfect Disease got about 1 week in my chart, I think, and I haven't even bothered with 1996... I hope they can come back with another couple of stunners, because Tokyo was really one-of-a-kind for me.

 

Would love it if Azealia got to #1 next week for you. I may have to stabilise it myself, if it's suddenly taking off like this.
