Posted December 8, 201113 yr Blur to receive Outstanding Contribution Brit Award Source: MW 07:51 | Thursday December 8, 2011 By Paul Williams Blur’s status as one of the biggest and most influential UK bands of the last 25 years is to be recognised by the Brits, with the band receiving the Outstanding Contribution to Music award next year. The honour, which was dropped from 2011's ceremony, will be brought back for the 2012 event, held on February 21 next year, once again at the O2 Arena. Brits chairman David Joseph told Music Week: "Outstanding Contribution is such an important award we didn't want it to be taken for granted as something which had to happen every year. I didn't know last year how long the award would be away for, but it was never going to be forever. With Blur we have a band I've personally felt have deserved the award for many years - they are the perfect act to bring this award back for. "Blur are as popular today as they have always been. They've always felt like the new guard, constantly pushing the boundaries, but incredibly it is 20 years since the release of Leisure, their first album. I've long felt they would be worthy winners - their contribution to British music is immense." Voting for the 2012 awards by the Brits voting academy began this week and will close next Wednesday (December 14).
December 8, 201113 yr Brit Awards: Blur honoured for outstanding contribution Blur will be honoured with a special prize for Outstanding Contribution to Music at this year’s Brit Awards. By Anita Singh, Showbusiness Editor 7:00AM GMT 08 Dec 2011 It comes 21 years after the release of Leisure, the band's debut album which included their first top 10 single, There’s No Other Way. Brits organisers described Blur as “a seminal British band whose contribution to British music is immense”. Previous winners of the award include Sir Paul McCartney, U2, Paul Weller and Fleetwood Mac. Blur dominated the Brit Awards in 1995, the year after the release of Parklife, by winning Best Band, Best Video, Best Single and Best Album. Their great Britpop rivals, Oasis, were given the Outstanding Contribution award in 2007. “It’s great to have recognition for all the work and all the heartache and all the joy that’s gone into this band,” said Damon Albarn. Bandmate Graham Coxon added: “Being in a band this long is like a kind of time travel. “We’re the same gang we ever were, we’ve just landed in a different era. Or possibly we’re a totally different Blur still playing the old tunes in 1991 - forever. I haven’t decided. But it’s always nice to get a Brit Award.” The Outstanding Contribution award was rested last year and Brits chairman David Joseph said: “Blur are the perfect band to bring this award back for.” Nominations for the 2012 Brit Awards will be announced on January 12 and the ceremony will take place on February 21. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/8...ntribution.html --- Fantastic news, should hopefully come with a great performance! :D
December 8, 201113 yr Author The Outstanding Contribution Brit Award is back after been dropped from this year's competition.
December 8, 201113 yr Amazing and deserved AND mostly because they'll perform!! No Distance Left to Run is the best music dvd (movie+concert) ever
December 8, 201113 yr Kate Bush really should win, but she probably doesn't appeal to the audience of these shows so much. I'm not surprised they didn't have one in 2011 - giving one to Robbie Williams in 2010 was and is a f***ing embarrassment.
December 8, 201113 yr That explains it. Bands aren't allowed the time to have a career these days. Blur would have been dropped a long time before they got to make Parklife if it were now. Really have to ask why the hell New Order haven't been given it yet. Ok, they're not together, they probably won't get back together, and they've only ever won one award (in 1988 for the True Faith video) but they / Joy Division were hugely influential. Is it because they were never signed to a major?
December 8, 201113 yr Hahahaha, definitely read that as 'Blue' first instead of 'Blur'. NOW it makes sense.
December 8, 201113 yr Excellent news. Next year's Brits show should be worth watching for Blur's appearance alone. At least that's one award Adele won't be winning

December 8, 201113 yr Author HA, me and Mark posted the topic at the same time, how spooky was that. Anyho I was expecting Depeche Mode or Erasure to be inducted for this award, at least its a worthy band, not like some that don't deserve it.
December 8, 201113 yr Good thread idea. Bands that have yet to be included that are better than Robbie Williams, the Spice Girls and Duran Duran. The list would crash the server.
December 8, 201113 yr Author Good thread idea. Bands that have yet to be included that are better than Robbie Williams, the Spice Girls and Duran Duran. The list would crash the server. Duran Duran errr... do you mind, they totally deserve it, they are one of my favourite bands of the 80s that have been in the music business over 25 years.
December 8, 201113 yr Go on then....convince me why Duran Duran have contributed more to British music than... New Order/Joy Division The Smiths Depeche Mode Blur Radiohead Massive Attack The Prodigy to name but a handful of influential bands that were passed over to award them. December 8, 201113 yr As much as I am not nor have ever been much of a fan of Blur I can't argue they deserve it. As for others that particularly do New Order/Joy Division Depeche Mode Stone Roses (even with only two albums) The Smiths The Cure Kate Bush Peter Gabriel Radiohead The KLF (I'd love that!) The Clash Sex Pistols The Kinks Rolling Stones (can't remember them ever getting one) Black Sabbath Led Zeppelin Orbital The Prodigy Those all spring to mind
