Posted December 8, 201113 yr "A suspenseful and gripping psychological thriller, Lynne Ramsay's We Need to Talk About Kevin explores the factious relationship between a mother and her son. Tilda Swinton, in a bracing, tour-de-force performance, plays the mother, Eva, as she contends for 15 years with the increasing malevolence of her first-born child, Kevin (Ezra Miller). Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, We Need to Talk About Kevin explores nature vs. nurture on a whole new level as Eva's own culpability is measured against Kevin's innate evilness. Ramsay's masterful storytelling simultaneously combines a provocative moral ambiguity with a satisfying and compelling narrative, which builds to a chilling, unforgettable climax." g__z9mVzYuw LOVED IT. Was visually stunning and the story was pretty brilliant, glad I hadn't read the book before hand. I can see Tilda getting an Oscar nomination for sure.
December 8, 201113 yr Where did you see it?! I had no idea it was out! I've been dying to see this for months.
December 8, 201113 yr Author It's been out since October whatttt. I couldn't find anyone to come with me so just ended up watching it online. I think I might go see it on my own though because the visuals were seriously stunning. One of my favourite films of the year.
December 8, 201113 yr Where did you see it?! I had no idea it was out! I've been dying to see this for months. Oh dear, I am the same as you! I have been looking forward to it for ages and had no clue it had been and gone! Will need to watch it online.
December 10, 201113 yr Just watched it and for me, its my film of the year. Everything about it was just outstanding and Tilda was superb, as I knew she would be, but I think she even bettered my expectations.
December 10, 201113 yr Yeah, excellent film even if it was extremely tough going (or because it was). Tilda is amazing, the kind of performance where there's no big explosive moment that's going to win her big awards, she just keeps her head down and ploughs through her miserable life... it's so draining to watch but so impressive. Kevin was an unspeakably awful person from the word go and in fact my biggest (and only real) hang-up with this film is how stupidly the husband is written, not to recognise how damaged Kevin clearly was from a young age until it was too late. John C. Reilly was miscast I think. But he played such an inconsequential part anyway. Tone-wise it reminded me of David Lynch in places, I can't really describe it... just surreal moments that put you on edge.
December 16, 201113 yr It is incredible. I'm even lost for words. So so beautiful. So much red. Loved that they also used the Spanish tomato festival as a contrast at the beginning. Edited December 16, 201113 yr by Conderella
December 27, 201113 yr Watched this yesterday, and I was BLOWN away. I am in AWE. Tilda Swinton really surprised me and delivered the best performance I have seen this year. If this doesn't get her a second Oscar, I don't know what will. This film had me captivated and shocked. Wow, just wow. Edited December 27, 201113 yr by Frank!
December 30, 201113 yr Author Loved that they also used the Spanish tomato festival as a contrast at the beginning. Things to do before I die!
December 30, 201113 yr BBC did a rundown of their favourite films of the year, and they ranked this as the #1 film of the year
January 7, 201213 yr What a relentlessly depressing film, there really was no respite. Very good but I'm never watching it again. Now I'm gonna go and watch something feel good I think...
January 10, 201213 yr It was a bit scarring! I had read the book a few years ago but I still dont know if that prepared me as I had forgotten a lot of it! Great film though, the acting was incredible and it discussed from really interesting issues. That being said I think I might have to watch reruns of Love Actually now so I can sleep again tonight...
