Wow, what a year it's been. Not surprisingly, females dominated my chart again, a familiar face managed to rack up 4 #1s, dance-pop continued to reign and X-Factor acts popped up.

I'm going to start with my Top 40 albums and then do the singles at the beginning of 2012.

40. DEMI LOVATO - Unbroken [uK Peak - n/a]

http://i43.tinypic.com/5mmpae.jpg

Top tracks:

1. Unbroken

2. Skyscraper

3. All Night Long ft Missy Elliot & Timbaland

Although not the best Disney album (which is Can't Be Tamed), Demi's is quite an interesting mix of straightforward ballads and old school R&B tracks. I do kinda wish she had sticked with the rockier sound.

39. KELLY ROWLAND - Here I Am [uK Peak - 43]

http://i40.tinypic.com/331j7g7.jpg

Top tracks:

1. Commander

2. Lay It On Me ft Big Sean

3. Down For Whatever

With a single campaign messy enough to rival Beyonce, the album seems to have been released with a bit of a whimper. The dance tracks really are the standouts, although the R&B tracks are equally competent enough. What the album lacks is a sense of personality.

38. WYNTER GORDON - With The Music I Die [uK Peak - n/a]

http://i44.tinypic.com/kdjw54.jpg

Top tracks:

1. Dirty Talk

2. Buy My Love

3. Rumba

After "Dirty Talk" seemed to hang around for 100 years before getting a proper UK release, Wynter finally followed up with a fun-orientated dance record. It is the perfect album to listen to before going out, but the lack of emotion means that most of the songs don't sound that distinctive.

37. COCKNBULLKID - Adulthood [uK Peak - n/a]

http://i43.tinypic.com/25i7w46.jpg

Top tracks:

1. Asthma Attack

2. Hold On To Your Misery

3. CockNBullKid

Criminally underrated, this is such a good album and is really quite unique compared to "of the moment" sound. Love her.

36. JENNIFER LOPEZ - LOVE? [uK Peak - 6]

http://i39.tinypic.com/rw145y.jpg

Top tracks:

1. On The Floor ft Pitbull

2. Papi

3. Hypnotico

What a comeback for J-LO! Whist the singles were pretty amazing, yet again her album was mostly average. At least her greatest hits will be phenomenal.

35. WHITE LIES - Ritual [uK Peak - 3]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/Whiteliesritualcover.png

Top Tracks:

1. Strangers

2. Bigger Than Us

3. Streetlights

This slightly more electronic sophomore continued the spooky guitar vibe set by it's predecessor. Whilst it's highs are not quite as high, it is an enjoyable listen.

34. CLARE MAGUIRE - Light After Dark [uK Peak - 7]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/LightAfterDark.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. The Last Dance

2. The SHield & The Sword

3. I Surrender

Although it was critically mauled and wasn't quite as successful as expected, Maguire does showcase her rather magnificent voice and potential for the future. Better material needed, definitely.

33. SELENA GOMEZ & THE SCENE - When The Sun Goes Down [uK Peak - 15]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/Selena_Gomez_When_the_Sun_Goes_Down.jpg

Top tracks:

1. Love You Like A Love Song

2. Outlaw

3. Whiplash

Another fun, fluffy pop album from Selena and is mostly deserved of this position because of the AMAZING "LYLALS". If she ever does a Bieber duet, I will never listen to her again.

32. JLS - Jukebox [uK Peak - 2]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/JukeboxJLS.jpg

Top tracks:

1. Do You Feel What I Feel?

2. Teach Me How To Dance

3. She Makes Me Wanna ft Dev

The most Americanised JLS have sounded yet, this album really defines generic dance-pop but I can't help liking the majority of it. Shameful.

31. PANIC! AT THE DISCO - Vices & Virtues [uK Peak - 29]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/600px-Panic_at_the_Disco_-_Vices__Virtues.jpg

Top tracks:

1. Let's Kill Tonight

2. The Ballad Of Mona Lisa

3. Hurricane

After the frankly disappointing "Pretty Odd", this more electronic album is a step up for the band, although they will never match the brilliance of "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out". And I will never be 15 again.

30. AQUA - Megalomania [uK Peak - n/a]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/Megalomania2.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. Like A Robot

2. Playmate To Jesus

3. Dirty Little Pop Song

So much more than a 90s cheese-pop reunion, this album shows that Aqua are able to fit in with the pop landscape of 2011 with irrestibly catchy hooks and tongue-in-cheek lyrics.

29. BOMBAY BICYCLE CLUB - A Different Kind Of Fix [uK Peak - 6]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/Bombay_bicycyle_club_a_different_kind_of_fix.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. Shuffle

2. Lights Out, Words Gone

3. How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep

A vast improvement on "Flaws", a more subtle electronic sound has created a cohosive and enjoyable album. I could listen to Jack Steadman's voice all day long.

28. THE WANTED - Battleground [uK Peak - 5]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/TheWantedBattleground.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. Glad You Came

2. Warzone

3. The Weekend

They were never going to match the amazingness of "Glad You Came", but the rest of the album is in the same vein and therefore decent enough.

27. EXAMPLE - Playing In The Shadows [uK Peak - 1]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/PlayingintheShadows.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. Changed The Way You Kiss Me

2. Midnight Run

3. Playing In The Shadows

Not quite as good as his debut, the dubstep influences still make an of-the-moment album. The singles are very good but the album tracks are less memorable.

26. THE VACCINES - What Did You Expect From The Vaccines? [uK Peak - 4]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/Vaccines_WDYEFTV_cover.jpg

Top tracks:

1. Norgaard

2. Post Break Up Sex

3. Wreckin Bar (Ra Ra Ra)

One of my favourite new acts, this simple rock/guitar album is full of catchy hooks and intelligent lyrics. Brilliant.

25. SOPHIE ELLIS-BEXTOR - Make A Scene [uK Peak - 33]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/Make_a_Scene.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. Bittersweet

2. Off & On

3. Dial My Number

A classy pop album that once again fell by the wayside. It might help if she actually promoted for once.

24. NATALIA KILLS - Perfectionist [uK Peak - 129]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/NK_Perfectionist.png

Top Tracks:

1. Wonderland

2. Free

3. Love Is A Suicide

Well, I really thought she would be the next big thing but apparently not. A perfect dark pop album though, surprisingly not as full of Gaga rip-offs as I thought.

23. ONE DIRECTION - Up All Night [uK Peak - 2]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/One_direction_up_all_night_albumcover.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. What Makes You Beautiful

2. Up All Night

3. Save You Tonight

Far better than I expected, they definitely went for the right sound. "...Beautiful" is actually amazing and the uptempos are where they shine. Only criticism is that "Gotta Be You" is coma-inducing and the voices are not distinctive at all.

22. WILL YOUNG - Echoes [uK Peak - 1]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/WillYoungEchoes.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. Jealousy

2. Come On

3. Hearts On Fire

I've always had a soft spot for Will and this mature but passionate album just increases it. Best UK Male popstar.

21. JESSIE J - Who You Are [uK Peak - 2]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/Jessie_J_-_Who_You_Are.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. Nobody's Perfect

2. Do It Like A Dude

3. Who You Are

Oh Jessie. I really wasn't sure about this inclusion because she's such a dick and I hate the way she sings live, but some of the songs I have listened to and loved all year long. She has the potential to be great, but she is so try-hard and her live vocal tics make me want to murder her.

20. DAVID GUETTA - Nothing But The Beat [uK Peak - 2]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/Nothing_But_the_Beat.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. Turn Me On ft Nicki Minaj

2. Titanium ft Sia

3. Night Of Your Life ft Jennifer Hudson

He may be responsible for some awful songs, but the majority of this album is very very good. He seems to work better with female singers for me.

19. FRIENDLY FIRES - Pala [uK Peak - 6]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/FriendlyFiresPala.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. Live Those Days Tonight

2. Hurting

3. Blue Cassette

Not as instant as their debut, the album is still fun and carnival-inspired. So individual and joyously euphoric.

18. NERO - Welcome Reality [uK Peak - 1]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/WelcomeReality.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. Promises

2. Crush On You

3. Guilt

2011 was the year that dubstep went mainstream, and Nero really were at the forefront. Still astonished that a song like "Promises" could hit the UK No.1!

17. THE SATURDAYS - On Your Radar [uK Peak - 23]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/SaturdaysOYR.png

Top Tracks:

1. All Fired Up

2. Notorious

3. White Lies

Whilst nowhere near as amazing as the two singles, this was a step in the right direction for The Sats: more clubby, electro. Unfortunately the buying public doesn't appear to agree.

16. KELLY CLARKSON - Stronger [uK Peak - 5]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/Kelly_Clarkson_-_Stronger.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)

2. Dark Side

3. Let Me Down

Not surprising for such a consistent artist, this is another album of classy, empowered rock/pop songs.

15. NICOLE SCHERZINGER - Killer Love [uK Peak - 8]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/Killer_Love_album_cover.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. Don't Hold Your Breath

2. Wet

3. Killer Love

Another surprisingly good album, an equal split between RedOne stompers and R&B ballads, I've been listening to the singles pretty much non-stop.

14. KATY B - On A Mission [uK Peak - 2]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/Katy_B_On_a_Mission_Cover.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. Broken Record

2. Katy On A Mission

3. Witches Brew

What an impact Katy B has made on the UK Dance scene. This album has so many different influences combined to the coolest sound of the year, perfected with Katy's effortlessly detached voice.

13. PATRICK WOLF - Lupercalia [uK Peak - 37]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/Patrick_wolf_lupercalia_standard.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. The City

2. House

3. Together

A surprisingly upbeat and positive album from Mr Wolf, he really is the most underrated British talent.

12. COLDPLAY - Mylo Xyloto [uK Peak - 1]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/Myloxyloto.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. Paradise

2. Princess Of China

3. Charlie Brown

2011 was the year I finally "got" Coldplay, due to this more poppier sound. Add to that an amazing stage show and I'm in love.

11. BRUNO MARS - Doo-Wops & Hooligans [uK Peak - 1]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/Doo-Wops__Hooligans.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. Marry You

2. Runaway Baby

3. Grenade

Yes, overexposure practically killed him for me, but the album is very good, bar "The Lazy Song".

10. ADELE - 21 [uK Peak - 1]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/220px-21Adele.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. Rolling In The Deep

2. Set Fire To The Rain

3. Turning Tables

This was a lot higher at the beginning of the year but the incessant playing of the singles made it lose it's shine. Yes, they are great songs and yes, she has an amazing voice but really? The album is a classic British soul album, but there have been better albums this year.

9. BEYONCE - 4 [uK Peak - 1]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/4_album_-_Beyonce.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. Countdown

2. Love On Top

3. End Of Time

Well, this was a grower. Its a proper R&B album that is uniquely Beyonce and the trio of my favourite tracks are really amazing. Not to mention the brilliant videos as well.

8. FLORENCE & THE MACHINE - Ceremonials [uK Peak - 1]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/Ceremonials.png

Top Tracks:

1. Shake It Out

2. Spectrum

3. Heartlines

Not as instant as "Lungs", this did grow on me so I could appreciate the work of art it is. The lush soundscapes and just "Florence-ness" of it all make it stand out from nearly every other release this year.

7. CHER LLOYD - Sticks & Stones [uK Peak - 4]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/600px-CherLloyd-SticksAndStones.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. With Ur Love

2. Dub On The Track

3. Playa Boi

Not everyone's cup of tea but if you look past the lead single, this is actually a solid teen-pop album. Not needing as many features as this album is, it will be interesting to see how Cher's career develops.

6. RIHANNA - Talk That Talk [uK Peak - 1]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/Rihanna_-_Talk_That_Talk_-_Cover_-_Deluxe.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. We Found Love

2. Where Have You Been

3. Drunk On Love

I was dubious about releasing so soon after "Loud", but I actually prefer this album. Lyrically risque, sonically a mixture between gritty R&B and Euro House anthems, this album shows why Rihanna is one of the world's biggest stars.

5. CHASE & STATUS - No More Idols [uK Peak - 2]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/No_More_Idols.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. Blind Faith (feat. Liam Bailey)

2. End Credits (feat. Plan B)

3. Hitz (feat. Tinie Tempah)

Effortlessly blending genres and with plenty of notable guest features, this is the highest "cool" album on the list and it was nice to see them enjoy mainstream success.

4. ARCTIC MONKEYS - Suck It And See [uK Peak - 1]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/Suckitandsee.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. Don't Sit Down Cos I Moved Your Chair

2. The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala

3. Piledriver Waltz

After the disappointing "Humbug", this comes as a more cohesive album with a "tongue-in-the-cheek" air surrounding the lyrics. Stiil the best British Band without a doubt.

3. NICOLA ROBERTS - Cinderella's Eyes [uK Peak - 17]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/Cinderellaseye.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. Lucky Day

2. Porcelain Heart

3. Yo-Yo

I was always going to love this album, but I did not expect it to be so quirky and yet still very British. She might not be everybody's cup of tea but there is no doubt in my eyes that she is the most talented of Girls Aloud.

2. BRITNEY SPEARS - Femme Fatale [uK Peak - 8]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/Femmefatale.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. Till The World Ends

2. Hold It Against Me

3. He About To Lose Me

Her second-best album, behind only "Blackout", there is literally only two songs I'm not fond of on the CD. It may not be down to Britney's artistic ability but this is 2011 commercial pop music at its best.

  • Author

And so the number one album is quite predictably...

1. LADY GAGA - Born This Way [uK Peak - 1]

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p93/fabbydiamonds/buzzjack/Born_This_Way.jpg

Top Tracks:

1. The Edge Of Glory

2. Marry The Night

3. Schiebe

4. Judas

5. Bloody Mary

It was always going to be this. A clear development in sound and embracing the different side of pop music, this is an almost perfect album. Not quite as perfect as The Fame Monster, but 17 tracks is quite hard to pull off perfection. The imagery might not have been as strong this era but the songs have been consistently better than the "lesser girls". I will always stan for Gaga if she carries on producing pop music of such talent and worthiness as this.

And so tomorrow I will start counting down the top 100 singles, based on scores from my weekly chart. But here's a little reminder of what the Top 10 looked like last year.

10. MARINA & THE DIAMONDS - Hollywood

09. DIANA VICKERS - Once

08. EXAMPLE - Kickstarts

07. ALEXANDRA BURKE - Start Without You

06. CEE-LO GREEN - Forget You

05. KATY PERRY - Teenage Dream

04. RIHANNA - Only Girl (In The World)

03. KATY PERRY - California Gurls

02. LADY GAGA - Alejandro

01. LADY GAGA & BEYONCE - Telephone

Will Lady Gaga and Katy Perry rule again?.... Probably.

I'm going to briefly give a moment to the unfortunate 10 who just missed out on getting into the Top 100.

110. MARTIN SOLVEIG ft DRAGONETTE - Hello [Peak - 5]

109. JESSIE J - Who's Laughing Now [Peak - 8]

108. FRIENDLY FIRES - Live Those Days Tonight [Peak - 7]

107. THE WANTED - Gold Forever [Peak - 5]

106. AMY WINEHOUSE - Back To Black [Peak - 1]

105. LLOYD FT ANDRE 3000 - Dedication To My Ex (Miss That) [Peak - 5]

104. KERI HILSON - Pretty Girl Rock [Peak - 6]

103. SAK NOEL - Loca People [Peak - 2]

102. AQUA - How R U Doing? [Peak - 9]

101. PATRICK WOLF - The City [Peak - 6]

Devastatingly close for Patrick Wolf.

  • Author

100. PINK - F***in' Perfect [uK Peak - 10] [My Peak - 6]

One of Pink's weaker singles, it joined the craze of "love yourself" songs. Average.

99. PIXIE LOTT ft PUSHA T - What Do You Take Me For? [uK Peak - 10] [My Peak - 4]

I really liked this, thought it sounded quite 90s R&B. Not many people agreed! Useless feature though.

98. SNOOP DOGG vs DAVID GUETTA - Sweat [uK Peak - 2] [My Peak - 3]

One of Guetta's better productions this year, it still became annoyingly overexposed. The lyrics are typically pervy, especially in the explicit version. It's the Felix sample that saves this song!

97. KELLY CLARKSON - What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger) [uK Peak - n/a] [My Peak - 1]

My current number one, it's only low due to it's late inclusion. Will definitely be much higher in next year's chart. Anthem.

96. NICKI MINAJ - Girls Fall Like Dominoes [uK Peak - 24] [My Peak - 3]

Nicki's worse release this year, I loved the sample at first but it got old very fast. There'll be much more Nicki later.
