December 19, 201212 yr Author I'd heard a few negative things about it, but I thought it was fantastic. Seeing Middle Earth again was phenomenal. Martin Freeman was excellent as Bilbo. I must admit the only part I was not fond of were the bits when Frodo appeared!
December 21, 201212 yr I liked it, but it was by no means amazing. I definitely didn't feel like the story dragged (like a lot of people anticipated it would being divided into 3 films), but I think 2 would've suited it better. I think for what it was, it was really good — The Hobbit just isn't as great of a story as the original trilogy. I also saw it in 48 fps which made landscapes look beautiful and everything else look like shit. Like a soap opera, almost.
December 21, 201212 yr I don't mind the fact it will be a trilogy, but a trilogy of three hour films each is a bit excessive. Why couldn't he just have done 1.5 hour films like this one should have been?
December 23, 201212 yr Okay, I just saw this. It was good and I liked it but not that much unfortunately.
December 28, 201212 yr I've just seen it, no idea how it took me so long but I've been so busy and I LOVED it. So many 'Tolkien fanboy' moments for me with extra trivia that is in the Appendices but not in the book itself (e.g Radagast and the White Council). I'm SO COOL with all this useless knowledge about the backstory of Middle-Earth and aside from a couple of implied timescale things and Azog surviving for this rather than his son Bolg, as I'm sure he makes a better 'villain', it all fitted pretty perfectly - so true to the book. It felt a lot less serious than LOTR but I'm sure that's the idea. Excellent acting from all involved (I really felt the dwarves gelled as a group, my favourite is Bofur :D) and I really can't wait to see how they wrap it up with parts 2 and 3.
December 29, 201212 yr I was underwhelmed by this. The visuals were outstanding (who would have expected anything less?), but the story was too slow and kind of boring here and there. I love the amount of humor in the film though. As I didn't read the book, I feel like I'm not really one to judge the storyline, but I thought it dragged on too long, especially the first 80 minutes.
January 3, 201312 yr I enjoyed this, but holy mother of God was it long. There was no need for them to make this into three films. Two I could sort of understand, but three is just milking it.
April 23, 201312 yr Watched this the other day. I found the first hour pretty boring but I liked the rest and the story is great. I'll definitely watch the other 2. I can't believe all my friends wasted their money on 3D though. Should we open a new thread for Part II or continue discussing it here?
