03. Katy Perry ft. Kanye West - “E.T.” - 36-12-9-9-4-8-7-10-12-12-3-1-1-2-3-3-5-5-7-8-12-13-16-19-21-23-26-32-34-39-x

infect me with your love and fill me with your poison

Katy Perry appears with her final entry, “E.T.”, featuring a guest rap from Kanye West on the single's release. I originally disliked the idea of a remix, but his rap eventually grew on me, and is one of my favourite parts to the song. Another thing which sparked my love for the track was going to see the California Dreams Tour in April of this year, with the performance of this song being one of my highlights. The song duly hit #1 in my chart, and returned parent album, Teenage Dream to the top spot for a further three weeks, following its initial run in September 2010. It infectious beat, with a tinge of hip-hop and sample from Queen's “We Will Rock You” are what makes this song so unique, and quite weird to hear coming from the same artist who sang “California Gurls”.

02. Beyoncé - “Best Thing I Never Had” - 32-21-20-11-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-3-3-4-7-8-11-15-19-19-20-21-31-29-37-38-38-34-40-39-33-36-

oh yeah, I bet it sucks to be you right now

Just being pipped to the post, it's Beyoncé, with the second single to be lifted from the magnificent 4. “Best Thing I Never Had” didn't click with me until a few listens in, where it eventually climbed to a #11 peak. Following this, Beyoncé performed a special set for Glastonbury 2011, which completely reignited my love for her that'd been buried in my heart for a few years. Performing some of her greatest tracks, and some new songs from 4, “Best Thing…” shot to #1 for seven consecutive weeks; being joined at the top by the album on five of the occasions. Musically similar to the cream of Beyoncé's vast crop of music, “Irreplaceable”, it's no wonder I loved this song so much in the summer - and still now, with it to-date spending an impressive 32 weeks in my top 40!

01. Nicki Minaj - “Super Bass” - 1-1-2-4-3-3-2-2-2-2-4-5-3-4-6-7-8-13-15-19-23-28-25-30-34-39-31-38-x

and yes you’ll get slapped if you’re lookin’ hoe

And here it is, the song that's defeated by no song - the UK breakthrough hit for Nicki Minaj! “Super Bass” is an incredibly catchy tune, which first worked its way into my conscience when I watched the video for the first time on YouTube - I had heard the song previously as part of parent album, Pink Friday, but never enough to make me love it. I'm sure most people have already seen it, so I shan't go on about it, but I can see that aesthetically, it is rather brilliant. The song was the anthem of the summer for me; despite it only spending two weeks at #1 compared to Beyoncé's seven, it had a lot more longevity in the higher ends of the chart, with fourteen straight weeks in the top five! It became Nicki's fourth top ten in my chart, and first in the official chart. I'm hoping to see more tracks like this on the follow-up album, Pink Friday: Roman's Revenge, which is due out this year, despite the songs that have been previewed so far being the polar opposite side to this - in vein of Nicki's alter ego Roman Zolanski.

Thanks Rich! That was rather intention with Beyoncé and Nicola - especially as with them sounding so similar, it's difficult to decide which is better! But I placed 'Run the World' higher due to having more memories attatched to it. Oh so am I! It's a shame that it never went to #1, but even without that, it was in my top ten on points of 2011 IIRC (as was 'I'm Into You'!). Haha, I know! I was going to route through old threads to get a comment for the post, but couldn't remember whose chart it was in. And I agree completely - I'd almost dismissed 'Somebody That I Used to Know', until I gave it what I thought would be one last listen and it just clicked! Maybe that'll also be similarly high on my 2012 rundown? :kink:

I'm surprised that it's you who's glad a Beyoncé song clicked with me! 4 would definitely be my album of the year, had I done a rundown.

I'd hate to live in a world where #28 is a better song than #33.

Sorry mate you do. 1D are ridiculously rubbish on all levels. :)
