This has leaked, really early though which is a shame :(

The album is SO good, probably better than the debut, I love that they didn't ditch their 'sound' from the previous one. Magic.

It is kinda brave of them to stick with the same sound because hardly anyone succeeds in improving on a previous album by sticking with the same sound.

3 weeks before the release is not early.

Anyway, going to give this a spin tomorrow <3

My first listen was disappointing, sadly. I'm sure it'll grow.

They already perfected their sound with the first album and this just falls short. They do simple so well but I’m really not sure if it works twice. I presumed they would have utilised on the fact that Jamie xx has really developed as a producer.

I think Angels is great but the rest of the album is just too wishy washy. Obviously, that was kind of their "thing" but their first album still had some very strong melodies and instrumentation like on Crystalised and Islands. The only song that sticks out to me so far is Reunion...and only really because of the steel pans. I think Chained could grow on me because the beat is pretty good at the end.

"The XX?. More like The ZZ"

I for one LOVE this album now. Reunion, Chained and Angels = highlights.
Still growing.

Hmm not sure. It's good but only good. Can't really say what's wrong with it. Maybe it's because there's nothing wrong. Absolutely nothing. It's too polished in a way.

Also, their lyrics are unimaginative, although that was the case with the debut too

But, Reunion is awesome.

It's too polished in a way.

YES. Only I love that it's too polished and slick. No unnecessary bullshit.

Never could really get into their debut until this album tbh too.

It's quite what I expected since I read the reviews. It's good but as I said earlier in the thread, sticking with the same sound is risky when it comes to some bands as there's no progression which really gives some albums a huge advantage and something of a new experience for listeners. This album will live or die on the strength of the songs and not on any new interesting change in direction - if that isn't too obvious a statement to make.

Yes, the band finally clicked on me (properly) today. TOOK ME 3 YEARS BUT I'M THERE.

(Hi. New here; this is my first post.)

Well, I used to not get what The xx were all about and I didn't understand all of the hype. Then I listened to "Co-Exist" on Spotify and well...it's a cool/cute album. The male vocalist sounds like an English-speaking 2000's version of Serge Gainsbourg. I liked it.

Listening to Far Nearer and You've Got the Love makes this even more disappointing.

Shut up, this is still incredible. 'Reunion' is just HEAVEN. That abruption
