Elvis performed at the Pontchartrain Beach Amusement Park, New Orleans.

Elvis went to Radio Recorders. This was a studio on Santa Monica Boulevard. Elvis felt comfortable right from the start and with the engineer, Thorne Nogar. They worked from 1.00 to 8.00 p.m. and recorded material for Elvis' second album as well as his new single. Because there was not a piano player present either Elvis of Gordon Stoker did the piano parts.

Elvis performed at the Lincoln Bowl, Tacoma, Washington at 2.00 p.m. Later that day he performed at 10.00 p.m. at the Sick's Stadium, Seattle, Washington. Elvis gave a 30 minute show in front of 15,000 fans. In addition to his own hits he sung Fool's Hall Of Fame, which was a new Sun release by Rudi Richardson. Elvis told the crowd this would be his new single, but in fact he never recorded it.

September 02, 1955

Due to a car accident Elvis was late for his performance at Arkansas Municipal Auditorium, Texarkana, Arkansas. It was Scotty Moore who drove the Cadillac Fleetwood into an oncoming vehicle, while he was passing a truck. The costs of the repair were $1,000. The local high school student Carl Nelson entertained the audience until Elvis showed up.

Again Elvis went to the studio, Radio Recorders, on Santa Monica Boulevard, Memphis, and continued the recording session from 1.00 to 11.30 p.m.

Elvis performed at the Multnomah Stadium, Portland, Oregon. In an interview before the show Elvis told the reporters: " There's nothing more important than love and marriage. I do think that marriage would hurt my career now, though."

Elvis actually performed 40 minutes, however there were nearly riots and the police had to act on the crowd.

This was a very memorial day for Elvis and the group. Elvis concluded the engagement by arriving on stage for his final show on Lamar's back with a toy monkey attached to his neck. Then he joked around with the crowd, tossing back and forth on a bed (provided by Sonny on stage), while singing What Now My Love. He even mentioned that he was treated poorly by the Hotel. At the end of the show he tried to make up for this by stating: " I know we kid a lot and have fun and everything, but we really love to sing, play music and entertain people. As long as I can do that, I'll be a happy old sonofabitch." The Colonel was not pleased at all, by Elvis' behaviour and they even got into a public shouting in the dressing room with a lot of members of the group present at that time. Later that night Elvis fired the Colonel, but the Colonel had already quitted himself. He wanted all the money Elvis owed him and then he moved to his suite to draw up the bill.

September 04, 1948

Elvis filled in the blank lines of his parent's marriage certificate with his own name and that of "Magdline" Morgan, a girl he knew from church. He wrote in September 11th as the date of their marriage. This all was a big surprise, 50 years later, to Magdalene, when she heard about it. She commended: " It was just a very sweet relationship. At that time, if you just held hands, it was very serious. And we did hold hands a lot".

The music for Elvis' new movie, Love Me Tender, was recorded at the 20th Century Fox soundstage.

Elvis arrived in Seattle for location shooting for It Happened At The World's Fair. He checked into a suite on the 14th floor at the Doric New Washington Hotel. He was accompanied by Gene And Billy Smith, Alan Fortas, Red West, Ray Sitton and Joe Esposito. Two friends from Memphis, Richard Davis and Jimmy Kingsley, were hired as extra security, but at the end of their stay they were regular members of the group.

The rehearsals and filming for the dance in Viva Las Vegas began today and lasted 2 days. The setting was a nightclub in Vegas and first Elvis and Ann-Margret danced to a version of The Climb but then Elvis got up stage bursting out into What'd I Say?

Elvis was present at a press conference with both the Colonel as well as the RCA president. There was the announcement of the Aloha from Hawaii show, January 14th, the next year. Elvis left all the official business to the Colonel and the only thing he said was: It's my favorite past of the business, a live concert.

That evening Elvis closed his Las Vegas engagement.

Just been fired by Elvis the other night, the Colonel and Elvis kept their argument going. Elvis however was a little stressed who to turn to for a manager. The Colonel however, carried on as usual.

In the meantime Elvis had flown in a gospel quartet from Nashville, with Donnie Sumner and Sherrill Nielsen. The idea to presented them to Tom Jones, but it didn't work out with Tom Jones. Elvis, however, liked their singing and he hired them for $100,000 a year as his personal backup group. He called them Voice.

Elvis performed at the St. Francis County Fair and Livestock Show Jamboree, Smith Stadium, Forrest City, Arkansas. Elvis was the main act on a 5-day tour with Johnny Cash, Bud Deckelman, Floyd Cramer and Eddie Bond. Back in 1954 Elvis auditioned once for Eddie Bond without success. Gladys Presley was sitting behind the trailer on which Elvis performed.

There was a recording session in the 20th Century Fox soundstage for the film Love Me Tender. Elvis continued to work on the vocals for a new song, Let Me, and another verse for the song Poor Boy.

Elvis made a start with his Christmas album which Steve Sholes wanted for some time now. This all took place at Radio Recorders and he also recorded 3 songs for single release. Including Treal Me Nice. The regular Hollywood musicians were joined by Millie Kirkham and the Jordanaires from 12.00 to 8.00 p.m.

The principal photography began at the Monorail terminal of the Seattle World's Fair. A very young Kurt Russel was part of the scene. He had to kick Elvis in the shin.

September 05, 1970

After all the troubles and threats, Elvis tried to reassemble the whole gang. So he has made up gold ID bracelets for all the guys with their nickname on the back. The costs were $1,486.50 and the jewelry was bought from Sol Schwartz and Lee Ableser in Beverly Hills.

Earlier this week Elvis was hospitalised. Not only for fatigue, but more important, according to Dr. Nick, for his depressed state of mind, his intestinal and bowel problems, his liver and a high cholesterol count. A couple of nurses agreed to give Elvis around the clock care. For this special care Elvis had a Pontiac delivered at the hospital for Mrs. Cocke's special attention.

The band, just got back to Memphis, travelled 80 miles to Bono to perform at the High School Gym, Bono, Arkansas. The attendance was so great that the floor gave away in the middle of the show. Luckily there were no injury's.

Elvis also got himself a new 1954 Cadillac Eldorado which he was showing off to Jimmy Day and others.

Elvis went to Radio Recorders again at noon, where he worked on Christmas songs for his new album. At the end of the session at 8.00 p.m. he sung Don't.

September 06, 1971

This was the last day of Elvis' Las Vegas engagement. For the first time Elvis closed the show with a cape. After expenses the Colonel and Elvis earned $351,000 for 4 weeks work. There were a lot of reports in the press about Elvis ' illness and his daily visits to the doctors.

Elvis bought his 3rd Stutz Blackhawk. This 1973 model is now present in the car museum at Graceland.

Elvis performed at the Von Braun Civic Center, Huntsville, Alabama, at 2.30 and 8.30 p.m. This was the last time Elvis performed 2 shows on one day.

Elvis performed at the National Guard Armory, Sikeston, Missouri.

September 07, 1957

There was another session at the Radio Recorders from noon till 8.00 p.m. However there was still one song for the new Christmas album missing, so Leiber and Stoller wrote a new one. This was the bluesy song: Santa Claus Is Back In Town, which Elvis liked very much.

There were plans made for recording some instrumental tracks by Scotty, Bill and D.J. at the end of the session. Elvis even suggested he would join them as a piano man. However at the end of the session there was not enough time left and Elvis said or did nothing for Scotty, Bill and D.J. This made Scotty and Bill write a letter of resignation and they expressed their long-held feelings of resentment towards Elvis. D.J. declined to go along with them. This all gave some bitterness on both sides.

On his last night in Las Vegas the Colonel negotiated an additional 3.30 a.m. show at the cost of $12,500.

The International Hotel presented Elvis with a wide gold belt. It had the hotel logo on it and the words: "World's Championship/ Attendance Record/ Las Vegas Nevada/ International Hotel". The belt supposed to be worth $10,000 and Elvis even wore the belt often and with pride.

There was a opening of a new shopping center in Memphis. In the advertisement of the opening was the announcement: "by the newest Memphis hit in the recording business Elvis Presley". This took place in front of Katz Drug Store the following night between 9.00 and 10.00 a.m.

Elvis and Anita Wood had breakfast at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and after that they visited Radio Recorders to listen to the songs Elvis had been recording over the last few days.

Later they watched 4 movies at the theaters around town, while talking about screening Jailhouse Rock the next day.

Elvis bought a custom-made Stutz Blackhawk. His first was badly damaged in an accident earlier that year and would not be repaired for almost 3 years.

Elvis made his appearance in Katz Drug Store, Memphis. There was the opening of a new shopping center and Elvis caused a huge crowd of teenagers. George Klein, Elvis' former classmate at Humes High School was present too.

Elvis performed at the Ed Sullivan Show, CBS Studios, Los Angeles, for the very first time. Since Sullivan himself had had a car accident in August, Elvis was hosted by Charles Laughton in New York City. More than 80 % of the national viewers watched Elvis' live performance of Don't Be Cruel, Love Me Tender, Ready Teddy and Hound Dog.

Elvis rented a house at 525 Perugia Way in Bel Air, Beverly Hills. The owner of the house was Ali Kahn, and Elvis rented it for $1,400 per month. This was all due to several incidents at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

Elvis stayed here off and on for the next 5 years.

Elvis flew to Phoenix for a 6 city tour arranged by the Colonel and the tour started in the Coliseum, Phoenix, Arizona. MGM filmed parts of this performance.

Elvis had some brief time between films and wanted to record some new songs and material for new singles as well as bonus songs to fill out the Clamback soundtrack album. One of the songs Elvis really wanted to do was Guitar Man. They fooled around with the song, but couldn't replicate Reed's guitar. So Reed was tracked down and asked to play along. The result of this session was stunning. Unfortunately there was a big misunderstanding about the rights of publishing and after playing on Big Boss Man as well, Reed stormed out. They all went on till 5.30 a.m. but the atmosphere was ruined.

Elvis performed at the Kiel Auditorium, St. Louis, Missouri. For the very first time there was a sound system with onstage monitors which allowed Elvis to really hear himself. This was an improvement.

Elvis performed at the Eagle's Nest, Memphis. Elvis returned to the Sun studio over the weekend to record several songs, including I Don't Care If The Sun Don't Shine and Good Rockin' Tonight.

Charlie Hodge remained stage manager and general assistant to Elvis, providing him with water and scarves.

Lamar Fike was taking care of the lighting. Sonny West responsible for the security and Richard Davis controlled the wardrobe. Dr. Nichopoulos was tour doctor and Joe Esposito remained in overall command. The Colonel always arrived before Elvis in each city.

Elvis stayed in Las Vegas. He ruined some furniture, while working out karate with Kang Rhee. He even broke his finger on his left hand. During this stay there were rehearsals with Voice.

Back in Memphis after his tour, Elvis was seen riding his motorcycle. By now there were rumors that Red and Sonny West and Dave Hebler were writing a book about their lives with Elvis.

There was an announcement by the police chief of San Diego; if Elvis ever returned to his city and performed in the way he did in the spring, Elvis will be jailed for disorderly conduct.

Elvis called Scotty to talk about his resignation and Bill's. Elvis asked what he had to do to get them both back. Since Scotty had a lot of debts, he asked for a $50 per week raise and an amount of $10,000 at once.

Priscilla Beaulieu was brought to Elvis' house in the Goethestrasse for the very first time. Not a living soul present at that time had missed the immediate attraction of Elvis to this young girl. Elvis stated: " She is like the woman I've been looking for all my life". From this moment on Priscilla joined the group every night and weekend. The group got an other new member: Joe Esposito from Chicago.

September 13, 1962

On the last day of location filming Elvis gave 2 Tennessee hams to the Washington governor and the head of the World's Fair. After that the group returned to Los Angeles, where cots and bedding were rented for Davis and Kingsley, 2 new members of the security group, so they could move into Elvis' Bellagio home.

Scotty was quoted in the newspaper the other day, about his earnings. Elvis responded to Scotty's statement through an open letter in the same newspaper: "If you had come to me we would have worked things out. But you went to the papers and tried to make me look bad.. All I can say to you is "good luck".

Elvis performed at the Municipal Auditorium, Mobile, Alabama. The group stayed in the Admiral Semmes Hotel just like in 1955. However the hotel was now in such a terrible state that Elvis complained bitterly. When Joe Esposito tried to arrange something else to stay, he was told there was no other room available. Before ending the tour, Elvis gave out bonuses to each of the guys. Even after deducting the Colonel's share Elvis made more then $174,000 on this 6 day tour.

Elvis left Mobile at 3.00 p.m. He flew back home to Memphis to complete a 2 day recording session in Nashville. He would return to the West Coast again the 24th.

While riding his 3-wheeled motorcycles again, dressed in a windbreaker, sunglasses on and smoking a cigar, Elvis told a reporter he was feeling fine again.

According to Carl Perkins Elvis played in Bethel Springs, not far from Jackson. This took place at the high school gym and all the girls went wild. After the show Carl and Elvis had a talk about the possibility of Carl singing with the Sun studios as well. Elvis didn't know whether Sam would need an other singer, but however Perkins did visit Sun the next month.

Elvis visited Dewey Philips at WHBQ.

September 17, 1962

The filming resumed at MGM Studios in Hollywood. And Elvis had a long interview with Lloyd Shearer on the set.

Elvis spoke of all the friends surrounding him. He was stating: " it is important to surround yourself with people who can give you a little happiness". He also spoke about his interest in studying philosophy and mentioned that he would liked to become a doctor and often read medical texts. He said that he was hesitant to make any major changes in his career ( " If I can entertain people with things I'm doing, well, I'd be a fool to tamper with it " ), but at the same time expressed an interest in exploring new directions.

For 10 days Elvis bought a lot for friends, family, staff and strangers. Mostly cars, but also a complete trailer for his cousin Billy Smith, to get him to live in comfort on the grounds of Graceland.

Hank Garland, a 26 guitar player, who had been working in Nashville signed on as Elvis new guitar player and Vernon Presley sent Scotty and Bill their final payment. Their resignation was accepted as of September 21.

Elvis spent his last night at before leaving for the army in Killeen with Vernon, Anita, Edie Fadal, Lamar Fike, Gene and Junior Smith and Red West. There were also some fan club presidents present. It was an emotional night.

Elvis left Fort Hort Hood at 7.00 p.m. He went on the troop train bounded for the Brooklyn Army Terminal in New York.

Just like before Elvis complained to the Colonel about RCA. They seemed to have remixed the sound of one of his songs. This time the upcoming single: Are You Lonesome Tonight? Elvis didn't like the sound of his own voice brought to the front at the expense of the backing vocals. He even threatened to go back in the studio to record it again.

Back in Memphis Elvis signed for a new Schimmel piano and organ from Jack Marshall Pianos and Organs.

September 19, 1973

The finger he broke during his last stay in Las Vegas still bothered Elvis and he went to an orthopaedist. There was a X-ray made and the finger was cast.

September 19, 1974

Linda's sister in law gave birth to a little girl at the Methodist Hospital. Elvis insisted not only to see Louise but also wanted to visit the labor room where he was recognized even with his surgical mask. One woman present said: Oh my God, you look like Elvis Presley. Elvis declared: Honey I AM Elvis Presley.

Elvis flew to Palm Springs, not to return to Memphis before the 26th.

The Presley family was accepted into the Memphis Housing Authority's Lauderdale Courts. This was just around the corner of the house they were living in. They had to pay $35 a month for a 2 bedroom, first floor apartment at 185 Winchester Street.
