Predict the #1 of 2011 or just use this thread for your own banter. :D I shall be back shortly to kick off the proceedings... :w00t:
January 2, 201213 yr I predict your top 3 will consist of Adele [sLY], Jenny, and Rihanna/Calvin Harris, in which order, I wouldn't know.
January 2, 201213 yr Author I predict your top 3 will consist of Adele [sLY], Jenny, and Rihanna/Calvin Harris, in which order, I wouldn't know. We shall see if you're right later on. :D Before we start counting down the top 40 of 2011, here's a look at the ten songs that just missed out: 41-50 41. Will Young - Come On [#3] 42. Brooke Fraser - Something In The Water [#4] 43. David Guetta feat. Usher - Without You [#4] 44. Noah & The Whale - L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. [#6] 45. Crystal Castles feat. Robert Smith - Not In Love [#2] (was #1 in December 2010) 46. Lady GaGa - Born This Way [#5] 47. Loreen - Sober [#2] 48. Florrie - I Took A Little Something [#3] 49. LMFAO feat. Lauren Bennett & GoonRock - Party Rock Anthem [#4] 50. Black Eyed Peas - Just Can't Get Enough [#3] Already we can see the BJSC effect creeping in. Let's see how many more BJSC entries ended up dominating my chart throughout the last six months of 2011. :D
January 2, 201213 yr Author http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Thumbnail_Images/HMV/MTAREC004R.JPG 40. Nero - Me & You [#2] We start off with a track right from the beginning of the year. Nero has easily been one of the biggest newcomers of 2011 with his first three singles all managing to outpeak the previous in the official UK singles chart. It may have resulted in a low selling UK #1 single ('Promises') but here it's debut single 'Me & You' that was Nero's biggest hit in my chart.
January 2, 201213 yr Author http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa129/Hitstastic/2011/milkandsugar-hey.jpg 39. Milk & Sugar Vs Vaya Con Dois - Hey (Nah Neh Nah) [#2] Every year there is a track that is reasonably successful in central Europe that bombs upon it's official UK released. 'Hey (Nah Neh Nah)' is one of those tracks from 2011 that fell into this category. Nonetheless, the quirky cut up track based around Vaya Con Dios' 1990 original version made it all the way to #2 here.
January 2, 201213 yr Author http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa129/Hitstastic/2011/pink-perfect.jpg 38. Pink - f***in' Perfect [#6] Following the release of her 'Greatest Hits' compilation in late 2010, Pink went on the score two further top 10 hits in my chart. 'Raise Your Chart' had already been charting towards the end of 2010 but it was 'f***in' Perfect' that became the bigger hit in my chart peaking at no. 6 back in March.
January 2, 201213 yr Author http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa129/Hitstastic/2011/brunomars-lazysong.jpg 37. Bruno Mars - The Lazy Song [#2] Up next is Bruno Mars, undoubtably the artist who gained the most success in my chart during 2010 with 3 chart toppers to his name. The success continued into 2011 with a fourth chart topper then the release of 'The Lazy Song' in May which peaked at #2.
January 2, 201213 yr Author http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa129/Hitstastic/2011/charlixcx-nuclearseasons.jpg 36. Charli XCX - Nuclear Seasons [#1] The first #1 in my chart to make an appearance is one of my most recent chart toppers. Charli XCX was introduced to me via BJSC and 'Nuclear Seasons' became a track I liked, but it managed to continue growing on me to the point it eventually topped my chart, just a fortnight ago, in its sixth week on the chart. Sadly Charli XCX didn't feature in the BBC Sound of 2012 poll but it's always difficult to predict which new artists are going to smash it and breakthrough with the most impact.
January 2, 201213 yr Author Now I've had something to eat, let's continue... http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa129/Hitstastic/2011/andain-promises.jpg 35. Andain - Promises [#3] Back in April, I decided to take part in BJSC creating my own "country" called Batidas which ended up doing rather well in 2011. :D Back in July I entered 'Promises' by Andain into BJSC XXXVI after discovering the track in Lithuania's singles chart. It provided Batidas with a fourth consecutive top 10 run which was completely unexpected (yes, I honestly thought I was heading for DNQ this track :o ).
January 2, 201213 yr Author http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa129/Hitstastic/2011/azuro-tiamo.jpg 34. Azuro feat. Elly - Ti Amo [#2] Following on nicely from Andain is 'Ti Amo' by Azuro featuring Elly which was also entered into BJSC XXXVI. In fact, it had been down as one of potential entries before realising other people had already claimed the song themselves. Whilst my own entry by Andain stalled at #3, 'Ti Amo' went one better entering at #2.
January 2, 201213 yr Author http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa129/Hitstastic/2011/rihanna-sam.jpg 33. Rihanna - S&M [#4] Alongside Bruno Mars, Rihanna was another act who dominated my chart throughout 2010 with three chart toppers. In 2011, Rihanna failed to score any more no. 1 hits from 'Loud' although 'S&M' was a big hit in my chart despite peaking at #4 (this track was kept out of my top 3 by three chart topping hits).
January 2, 201213 yr Author http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa129/Hitstastic/2011/badmeetsevil-lighters.jpg 32. Bad Meets Evil feat. Bruno Mars - Lighters [#3] Back in September, Bad Meets Evil - a rap duo consisting of Royce da 5'9" (Bad) and Eminem (Evil) - scored a top 3 in my chsrt with 'Lighters'. The track, featuring guest vocals from Bruno Mars, had already been around for a while before finally taking off becoming a hit in the UK. It's the only appearance here for both Royce da 5'9" and Eminem but already the second time Bruno Mars has appeared inside my top 40 of 2011. He's still to come with another track... :funky:
January 2, 201213 yr Author http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa129/Hitstastic/2011/ladygaga-edgeofglory.jpg 31. Lady GaGa - The Edge Of Glory [#2] If any artist generated more interest before the release of their second album, surely Lady GaGa takes that honour? Despite some really odd single release patterns, GaGa still managed to score 3 top 10 singles in the UK. Lead single 'Born This Way' wasn't that bad but I had expected more from a new Lady GaGa single. Nonetheless, that track ends 2011 as the 46th biggest hit in my chart. Of all the singles released, it was 'The Edge Of Glory' that made the most impact with me. A brilliant song possibly let down by the fact the video was a real anti climax. It still managed to climb its way to no. 1 on UK iTunes before having to settle for an official peak of #6 in the chart. Here the track made it all the way to no. 2 and thus makes it Lady GaGa's biggest hit in my chart for 2011.
January 2, 201213 yr Author http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Thumbnail_Images/HMV/SPEARSHOLDPRE.JPG 30. Britney Spears - Hold It Against Me [#2] Another US female artist who made a much raved return in 2011 was Britney Spears. Like with the handling of Lady GaGa's singles, 'Hold It Against Me' was released to iTunes with no airplay, no video, no promotion. Of course across Europe songs seem to go to no. 1 more easily when you're an established artist. The task was much more tricky in the UK where this track ended up peaking at #6. Then again, once the music video had been released the initial buzz of a new Britney was well and truly gone and didn't exactly boost sales of the song either.
January 2, 201213 yr Author http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa129/Hitstastic/2011/chrisbrown-beautifulpeople.jpg 29. Chris Brown feat. Benny Benassi - Beautiful People [#4] WHAT?!!! :o If someone had told this time last year that Chris Brown would've ended 2011 with one single in my top 40 of the year, I would've laughed. LAUGHED I tells ya!!! Alas, that's exactly what's happened. I've never been a massive fan of Chris Brown - most of his tracks have made me cringe with some of the most painful vocals ever heard. So it was quite the surprise when I first listened to 'Beautiful People' and realised that Chris Brown sounded good on this track. There were no whinny high notes to destroy the song, just a really great feel good dance track. After the cringefest of 'Yeah x3' and the whinny vocals on 'Champion' this was not what I'd expected to hear. Kudos to Benny Benassi...
January 2, 201213 yr Author http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Thumbnail_Images/HMV/2745135.JPG 28. Chase & Status feat. Liam Bailey - Blind Faith [#3] When dubstep is done good, it's very good. After the success of 'Me & You', Nero had set an early benchmark for dubstep - the genre that people had predicted to be the sound of 2011. In February, the benchmark was raised with the release of 'Blind Faith'. Chase & Status had already scored a low key top 30 hit in my chart with 'Let You Go' but I regarded that track as nothing special. 'Blind Faith', however, is such a brilliant track. Dubstep with a radio friendly twist and yet another song to sample Loleatta Holloway's 'Love Sensation', this was easily one of my fave singles from the earlier part of the year.
January 2, 201213 yr Author http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa129/Hitstastic/2011/maroon5-moveslikejagger.jpg 27. Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger [#5] Well, who saw this coming? :D Probably the biggest surprise hit of 2011. Having already performed the track together on The Voice earlier in the year, 'Moves Like Jagger' eventually became a monster hit all over the world. It's fair to say that both Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera were not considered relevant to the music industry at the start of 2011 but they really changed that opinion back in August. Now famous for spending 7 weeks stuck at #2 in the UK behind 7 different chart toppers ( :drama: ) the track has deservedly won the war becoming a UK million selling single. As for those "one week wonders" that kept this off the no. 1 spot, they will probably never a sell anywhere near a million copies.
January 2, 201213 yr Author http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa129/Hitstastic/2011/coldplay-etiaw.jpg 26. Coldplay - Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall [#2] Another band who had a more eagerly waited comeback in 2011 were Coldplay. Back in June, this track was given an international release and managed to peak at no. 6 in the UK charts. It's a similar tale to 'Violet Hill', the introductory single from Coldplay's previous album 'Viva La Vida Or Death To All His Friends'. Both tracks made the UK top 10 but tailed off rather quickly. With both albums, it's the second single that proved to be the more successful...
January 2, 201213 yr Hi Hits, this is what I like so far: 26. Coldplay - Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall [#2] (hope Paradise is still to come!) 27. Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger [#5] (too low :snif:) 29. Chris Brown feat. Benny Benassi - Beautiful People [#4] 30. Britney Spears - Hold It Against Me [#2] 31. Lady GaGa - The Edge Of Glory [#2] 33. Rihanna - S&M [#4] (same peak as my chart :o) 34. Azuro feat. Elly - Ti Amo [#2] 35. Andain - Promises [#3] 36. Charli XCX - Nuclear Seasons [#1] (really hope she's big in 2012) 39. Milk & Sugar Vs Vaya Con Dois - Hey (Nah Neh Nah) [#2] (one of about six million European hits that didn't chart in the UK :() 40. Nero - Me & You [#2] 41. Will Young - Come On [#3]  43. David Guetta feat. Usher - Without You [#4] 44. Noah & The Whale - L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. [#6] 46. Lady GaGa - Born This Way [#5] 47. Loreen - Sober [#2] 48. Florrie - I Took A Little Something [#3] 49. LMFAO feat. Lauren Bennett & GoonRock - Party Rock Anthem [#4] 50. Black Eyed Peas - Just Can't Get Enough [#3]
January 2, 201213 yr Author ...and now I'm back ready to continue!!! :D http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa129/Hitstastic/2011/sx-blackvideo.jpg 25. SX - Black Video [#2] You've already seen one of my BJSC entries inside the top 40 of 2011, here's the second. 'Black Video' is a track I discovered in the Flanders (Belguim) singles chart and whilst it wasn't exactly a massive hit there, I found the song capivating to listen to. So much so I decided to enter this into BJSC XXXIV gaining Batidas a second top 10 finish.
