From one Adele track to another. :D In fifth place it's 'Rolling In The Deep' which I first heard just over a year ago in the Pop forum. On that first listen I really liked what I heard but would never have imagined this track would go on to become such a massive hit. Especially ending 2011 as the biggest selling single in America. So yes, it's safe to say with three entries comfortably inside my top 20 Chart of 2011, Adele has undoubtably been my artist of 2011 as well.

If we're going to judge this purely off the lead single then it's safe to say that Jennifer Lopez easily had the biggest comeback of 2011. With 'Born This Way' langusihing at #46, and 'Hold It Against Me' at #30 this puts into perspective just how much I liked this track. With 5 weeks at the top of my chart it has easily become Lopez's biggest hit in my chart. There wasn't even that much competition with her previous best performing single being 'Get Right' (#2) in 2005.

Finishing third in my Chart of 2011 it's Australia's Gotye teaming up with New Zealand's Kimbra with one of the most successful singles from various countries over these last few months. It's certainly a grower and in fact, in every country where this has been a no. 1 smash hit the track has climbed to its peak. With the track currently #106 on UK iTunes I'd like to take this as a good sign keeping up with tradition of other countries - letting the song continue growing until it suddenly clicks after the 10th time you hear this song. I'm quite sure if my chart was just based on me charting songs as soon as I heard them, this would've probably entered at no. 40 and worked its way up to #1 in my chart. However, my chart isn't compiled like that so these things rarely happen. I entered 'Somebody That I Used To Know' into BJSC XXXVII where the track finished in 13th place. However, further proving how much of a grower track this really is, it's now one of the 30 entries competing in BJSC The Best Of alongside Agnes Obel 'Riverside'. Am I expecting to win with either track? No, not at all. I'm just happy to be in the final.

It's time to reveal what my #1 track of 2011 is but first let's see what has finished in second place... :o

In what has actually resulted in one of the closest top 2 finishes, Lana Del Rey just loses out. However, there's no denying just how much of an impact 'Video Games' had on me upon its entry into BJSC XXXVII where this track ended up winning collecting just short of 200 points. Similar to 'Riverside', this is another track that's both beautiful and haunting whilst the strings add more atmosphere to the production of the track. Lana's unique vocal style further adds to the track so effectively. With the impending release of second single 'Born To Die' and debut album of the same name, Lana Del Rey is already looking set to be one of the biggest new acts of 2012.

Which can only mean one thing...

What a contrast in styles between my top 2 singles of 2011. In fact, I'm actually shocked as 'We Found Love' has ended 2011 with just one point more than 'Video Games' (which I actually thought was going to be my no. 1 of the year :D ). Regardless, 'We Found Love' is an absolute gem which I'm still not bored of listening to and has held up incredibly well in my chart. I'd only posted last week about how Rihanna seems to have improved with each era. 'Only Girl (In The World)' is currently Rihanna's biggest hit in my chart but judging from the points for 'We Found Love' it looks like this is going to steal that title if it can hold up in my chart for a couple more weeks. :D

I'm going to go back and reply to Tom's comment as well as I didn't notice them at first. :drama:

01. [258] Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris - We Found Love Incredible, excellent #1

The best thing about my YTD chart is that I add the points each week but never actually check to see which tracks has collected the most points. I usually have an idea of how my chart is going to pan out but I like to surprise myself. I honestly didn't think 'We Found Love' had been in my chart long enough to be a chart topper. I'm still loving that his has managed it as it probably would've overtaken 'Video Games' anyways with 2012 points included.

02. [257] Lana Del Rey - Video Games Wow, really expected this to ease to #1, I guess we both had mildly surprising EOY #1's :o

Same here. :o Still, this is an incredible showing for a Chart of 2011 second place. I'm sure I've had a couple of years where my #1 single of the year has collected less points.

07. [197] Ed Sheeran - Lego House Pleased to see Ed get a top ten finish with something, his only single NOT to finish in my EOY top ten, 11th is a charm though!

Like I said in my commentary earlier, I personally think Ed Sheeran has proved to be the most successful breakthrough artist of 2011. He's certainly been more successful than Jessie J when you think about it.

10. [189] Coldplay - Paradise

This is my biggest shocker!!! I had no idea 'Paradise' was this high up my Chart of 2011. It's definitely deserved though.

27. [124] Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger Shame it's so low but I know it didn't have a massively high peak for you so at least it's finished top 40!

Yeah, I liked 'Moves Like Jagger' but it definitely didn't have the same impact on me as it's had on you and Tom. It also peaked at #5 in my chart but at least it got a showing in the top 40. It does make me wonder what Maroon 5 will release as their next single. This track has been so popular, can they capitalise on this or will the next single bomb without trace? :D

31. [120] Lady GaGa - The Edge Of Glory Only one track from Lady Gaga! Seems she underperformed for everyone this year, expect the stans of course - who believe that the sun shines out of her backside and gave every single of hers a 5 week+ run at #1 in their personal chart

I found the whole era really disappointing but also really badly handled. I'm not entirely sure what the record company were trying to achieve by releasing 'Born This Way' on a Friday afternoon. It's as if they wanted it to fail, or maybe they aimed for the track to climb to no. 1 in its second week but if that had been the case, it really backfired. I still think the video to 'The Edge Of Glory' is rubbish but the song itself is easily the best track that was released as a single.

33. [119] Rihanna - S&M I haven't listened to this in ages, good in a club but elsewhere I'm not fussed, didn't even go top 20 in my weekly chart :o

This is one of those cases where the music video boosted the single. Whilst this track was no. 4 in my chart, the top 3 consisted of 'Someone Like You', 'Price Tag' and 'Rolling In The Deep' so basically a top 3 consisting of chart toppers. :D

39. [110] Milk & Sugar Vs Vaya Con Dios - Hey! (Nah Neh Nah) Seems a bit out of place, but I'd forgotten that this was a big hit for you

I'm sure there's always that one track each year that does well in my chart but then tends to look out of place when I reveal my end of year chart. It wouldn't be a Hits' countdown without the token cheese.

All of your top 12 feature in my top 100 of the year! And I like the entire top 40, nice job!

Have I commented on your chart yet? If not, I shall do so tomorrow. Glad to see you liked the whole top 40 but then our tastes are very similar so it's all good. :D

Hey! My likes and some comments:

01. [258] Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris - We Found Love

02. [257] Lana Del Rey - Video Games Wow! So close to #1! Video Games was one of the finals songs to be chopped from my EOY chart, finishing in 53rd place. I am very much looking forward to her album!

04. [210] Jennifer Lopez feat. Pitbull - On The Floor I wouldn't have expected J Lo to make such a strong comeback this year, but it was well deserved with this track, even if she is essentially ripping off Helena Paparizou with every track on her album :kink:

05. [201] Adele - Rolling In The Deep

06. [198] Adele - Someone Like You

08. [194] Agnes Obel - Riverside

10. [189] Coldplay - Paradise

11. [180] David Guetta feat. Sia - Titanium

12. [174] Alexandra Stan - Mr. Saxobeat Brilliant track! So pleased to see Romania at the forefront of dance music in 2011, it's a shame Akcent didn't break through though :(

16. [158] Adele - Set Fire To The Rain

19. [153] Sak Noel - Loca People

36. [114] Charli XCX - Nuclear Seasons I was surprised she was left of the Sound of 2012 list!

38. [111] Pink - f***in' Perfect

39. [110] Milk & Sugar Vs Vaya Con Dios - Hey! (Nah Neh Nah) I was surprised this wasn't a bigger hit in the UK. After We No Speak Americano, I thought this would fly into the top 3! Wikipedia says it peaked at #94?! That's shocking :(

02. [257] Lana Del Rey - Video Games Wow! So close to #1! Video Games was one of the finals songs to be chopped from my EOY chart, finishing in 53rd place. I am very much looking forward to her album!

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I really did think 'Video Games' was easily my #1 of 2011. I know you weren't that keen on the song initially so it must've grown to even be considered in the first place. What do you think of 'Born To Die'?

04. [210] Jennifer Lopez feat. Pitbull - On The Floor I wouldn't have expected J Lo to make such a strong comeback this year, but it was well deserved with this track, even if she is essentially ripping off Helena Paparizou with every track on her album :kink:

 Well I can't say I've heard Helena Paparizou's album. Only 'Love Me Crazy' if that's included as I heard that via BJSC. Still, it's remarkable that J-Lo got her biggest worldwide hit 12 years after her debut. I think Cher still holds the record for most successful selling single a good 30 years after her debut single was released.

12. [174] Alexandra Stan - Mr. Saxobeat Brilliant track! So pleased to see Romania at the forefront of dance music in 2011, it's a shame Akcent didn't break through though :(

The Romanian dance boom started with 'Stereo Love' in 2010. Then Inna jumped on board the band wagon. 'Mr. Saxobeat' was the runaway Romanian success story of 2011 going to no. 1 in quite a few European countries. ^_^ Would've easily been #1 in my chart had it not been for the mammoth BJSC influence.

35. [115] Andain - Promises One of my favourites of your entries! It took a little while to grow on me though

I guess everyone feels the same with each contest but I've always entered songs into BJSC not expecting to do well in the semis. I was amazed at some of the comments I got when I entered 'Promises'. There were comments like "omg, i love this song, it has really meant a lot to me" so in those cases I get that warm fuzzy sort of comforting feeling that a song I've entered in BJSC has meant a big deal to somebody else.

36. [114] Charli XCX - Nuclear Seasons I was surprised she was left of the Sound of 2012 list!

Well now that the results have been announced I can only echo my last posted in UK Charts. I suspect they just didn't want to give it to a solo female artist again and Michael (surname) was the most hyped male artist on the list. I'm glad Skrillex didn't win because he's more Sound of 2011 jumping the bandwagon a year late. Likewise I thought the same about Wretch 32 only I just thought he was Tinie Tempah, just 12 months too late.

I think 'We No Speak Americano' was one of the genuine surprise hits. I doubt nobody expected Yolanda Be Cool to be anywhere near UK #1 despite its success in Europe and Australasia. As for 'Hey! (Nah Neh Nah)', the UK radio edit killed the song completely. Why they decided to have a breakdown section where everything slows down, I'll never understand. The verson I charted was the version that was a hit in central Europe (ie; the better version!!! :D ).

Hello Hits, I'll give you my likes and comments :D,

01. [258] Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris - We Found Love - the #1, interesting to see how close it was, I do prefer We Found Love, but Video Games would have been a worthy winner also.

02. [257] Lana Del Rey - Video Games

03. [231] Gotye feat. Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know

04. [210] Jennifer Lopez feat. Pitbull - On The Floor

05. [201] Adele - Rolling In The Deep - Adele must have been an unstoppable force in your chart in the early part of the year! :o Seeing how well the other tracks did. Very good choices though, Adele certainly deserves it with this material.

06. [198] Adele - Someone Like You

07. [197] Ed Sheeran - Lego House

08. [194] Agnes Obel - Riverside - Good to see this finish top 10, it is certainly a good track, relaxing, and definitely a worthy BJSC winner.

09. [190] Jessie J feat. B.o.B. - Price Tag

10. [189] Coldplay - Paradise

11. [180] David Guetta feat. Sia - Titanium - My EoY #1, of course. As the chances of this being a hit get ever bigger, I fall more and more back in love with the song.

12. [174] Alexandra Stan - Mr. Saxobeat

13. [173] Kanye West - All Of The Lights

14. [169] Beyonce - Best Thing I Never Had

15. [166] DJ Fresh feat. Sian Evans - Louder

16. [158] Adele - Set Fire To The Rain

17. [156] Example - Changed The Way You Kiss Me

07. [197] Ed Sheeran - Lego House

08. [194] Agnes Obel - Riverside - Good to see this finish top 10, it is certainly a good track, relaxing, and definitely a worthy BJSC winner.

10. [189] Coldplay - Paradise

11. [180] David Guetta feat. Sia - Titanium - My EoY #1, of course. As the chances of this being a hit get ever bigger, I fall more and more back in love with the song.

I also think this was the right result as had 'Video Games' been my #1 of 2011, 'We Found Love' would've only been one week off overtaking. I never expected my Chart of 2011 top 2 to be this close points wise. There's always been a clear lead in the past for my end of year #1 singles.

05. [201] Adele - Rolling In The Deep - Adele must have been an unstoppable force in your chart in the early part of the year! :o Seeing how well the other tracks did. Very good choices though, Adele certainly deserves it with this material.

I'm sure Adele wou;d've been dominating my Chart of 2011 earlier in the year although I never actually check my YTD spreadsheet. I add the points each week but especially by April when there's a decent list of singles, I never look at the overall order. By doing this, it always makes counting down my Chart of The Year interesting for me. :D

08. [194] Agnes Obel - Riverside - Good to see this finish top 10, it is certainly a good track, relaxing, and definitely a worthy BJSC winner.

I fell in love with 'Riverside' the first time I heard it. I'm glad I chose this over my other contender that month - 'Better Off Dead' by The Sounds as I reckon that wouldn't have performed anywhere near as successfully.

11. [180] David Guetta feat. Sia - Titanium - My EoY #1, of course. As the chances of this being a hit get ever bigger, I fall more and more back in love with the song.

I think 'Titanium' is incredible and proves that David Guetta can still deliver the goods without the constant generic sound he tends to use. I'd even say he paid a lot of respect to Sia for allowing this track to be both subtle and powerful in equal proportions. Can you imagine what 'Little Bad Girl' would've sounded like had it been given a backing like 'Titanium'? Proof that 'LBG' was purposely meant to be all kinds of generic nonsense.
