May 3, 201213 yr There are just two new entries but the chart is looking very, very nice! In fact, it looks like a perfect continuation of last week's edition - I think this is exactly what Jamse calls "flow"! K'naan reached number 1 in 2010 with "Wavin' Flag" but I have to say I wouldn't have expected to see him in European Top 20 again! And "Drive By" becomes Train's third number 4 hit after "Drops Of Jupiter" and "Hey, Soul Sister". Will they finally be able to enter the Top 3 this time?
May 4, 201213 yr I prefer this weeks chart to the chaotic ones before, full of re-entries. Not saying there cant be weeks with a couple of re-entries, or some weeks with 5 new entries, but a balance is warranted. I definitely dont want the chart to be dull like it was during the whole 2000s, but I like the chart to have a flow, and not have an entries going 15-4-12-2-OUT-5-20-OUT-12-OUT-3-16-OUT or something. Also pleased to see 2 more non-UK hits getting in the chart. Reminds me the days of ATB or Wamdue Project charting way before they were hits in the UK, or even acts like Toy Box and Tarkan.

May 12, 201213 yr Hitstastic, it's a funny coincidence that you said the chart was "static" because in the past I actually thought your name was HitSTATIC... Otherwise, I completely agree with you. It looks like the chart-makers suffered from a complete lack of inspiration/imagination this time... The previous couple of editions were really good so hopefully the next chart will be more like them...

May 17, 201213 yr That's a big improvement on the previous week. Looks much more reflective of the biggest hits right now in Europe. I wonder if Gusttavo Lima will eventually chart as this looks like it's going to continue where 'Ai Se Eu Te Pego!' left off. Hitstastic, it's a funny coincidence that you said the chart was "static" because in the past I actually thought your name was HitSTATIC... For some reason many posters don't seem to realise there is an extra "s" in my username. :D I think that's why most people refer to me as Hits as it's easier to type. :P
May 17, 201213 yr Hmm... Maybe the chart-makers do read my commentary because this time they have shown that they can make an interesting chart! 6 entries and the chart as a whole seems to represent well what's going on across Europe... I'm just a little worried that the German-speaking countries might be having a little too much influence (the latest example is DJane HouseKat)...
May 25, 201213 yr Here is the latest edition of European Top 20: 20 Alex Clare - Too Close NEW 19 Pitbull - Back In Time NEW 18 Sean Paul - She Doesn't Mind 7 Down 17 Justin Bieber - Boyfriend RE-ENTRY 16 Taio Cruz - There She Goes NEW 15 Maroon 5 - Payphone 4 Up 14 Luca Hänni - Don't Think About Me NEW 13 Far*East Movement & Justin Bieber - Live My Life 4 Down 12 Aura Dione - Friends 4 Up 11 Kelly Clarkson - Stronger 3 Down 10 DJ Antoine & The Beatshakers - Ma Chérie 3 Up 9 David Guetta & Sia - Titanium 3 Up 8 Flo Rida & Sia - Wild Ones 2 Down 7 Jennifer Lopez & Pitbull - Dance Again 3 Up 6 Nicki Minaj - Starships 1 Up 5 Train - Drive By Stay => 4 Michel Telo - Ai Se Eu Te Pego! 2 Down 3 Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe 1 Up 2 Fun. - We Are Young 1 Up 1 Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know Stay => Of course, the biggest shock is the debut of "Don't Think About Me" by Luca Hänni. As I have said before, I don't approve of songs entering MTV European Top 20 if they have only had success in the German-speaking part of Europe. Yes, "Don't Think About Me" became number 1 in all of Germany, Austria and Switzerland but to me that's still not enough - the song should appear in at least another European country's chart in order to make it to European Top 20! Seeing "Don't Think About Me" here reminds me of the beginning of last year when "Mignon Mignon" by René La Taupe appeared in MTV European Top 20 (that was the copy of the last edition of the Eurochart)... But at least the situation with "Mignon Mignon" was funny because it was the first of that type of song to chart here (even "Axel F" by Crazy Frog has never been in this chart!)... Anyway, this edition of the chart looks quite nice otherwise! Come on, Fun., just one more step!
May 26, 201213 yr Well being #1 in 3 countries is significant imo. Better than the many songs that chart here having been a hit in the UK only.
May 26, 201213 yr Is Luca Hänni the first winner of Deutschland sucht den Superstar to get an entry in the MTV European Top 20?
May 26, 201213 yr Yes, Luca Hänni is the first! We'll see what happens in future years... Euphorique, I have always said that I'm against songs entering European Top 20 if they have only had success in the UK (and Ireland) so for me this is the same case. If a song is only doing well in the German-speaking countries, I consider this "local" success, which is not enough to appear in a EUROPEAN chart. Just like it wouldn't be enough if, for example, a French idol scored a number 1 in France, Wallonia and Switzerland... A hypothetical song that reaches number 12 in Germany, number 9 in Austria, number 18 in Switzerland and number 7 in the Netherlands is much more deserving of charting in MTV European Top 20 than "Don't Think About Me" by Luca Hänni, I think. Just like "Femme Like U" by K-Maro deserved to make it to the chart (alas, it didn't do it in reality) because it managed to have success outside of the French-speaking countries.

June 1, 201213 yr I can only think of "Balada" and "Tacata" right now that should be on here AND LOREEN
June 1, 201213 yr "Satellite" did. But other than that I dont really remember Eurovision entries being played on MTV since the late 90s. Imaani - Where Are You and Dana International - Diva were definitely played. Sertab got a lot of play on VH1 Europe, but not sure if it was on MTV Europe too (by then I had just gotten MTV Portugal).
June 1, 201213 yr AND LOREEN Well obviously now it should be added too. But the lack of video may hinder it's chances.
June 2, 201213 yr "Satellite" by Lena debuted straight at number 1 in MTV European Top 20... but that was in the new period of the chart (since 2009), when this wasn't such a legendary occurrence... Before that "Hard Rock Hallelujah" by Lordi reached number 13 in 2006... And the previous Eurovision song in European Top 20 was back in 1998 - "Diva" by Dana International reached number 10. Regarding Eurovision winners played on MTV Europe - all the ones between 2003 and 2006 were played. I remember seeing on MTV Europe all of "Everyway That I Can" by Sertab, "Wild Dances" by Ruslana, "My Number One" by Elena Paparizou and "Hard Rock Hallelujah" by Lordi. About the latest edition of European Top 20 - you just have to look at this edition of Euro Singles Top 100, the chart made by my friend djcharly (Charles Pons): http://www.charly1300.com/eurosingles/eurosingles235.htm
