January 8, 201213 yr Author http://australian-charts.com/forum.asp Gavin Ryan's Chartifacts (Thanks to Gavin Ryan) Singles LMFAO spend a ninth non-consecutive week at No.1 with their second ARIA chart-topper "Sexy and I Know it", and they’re now only one week shy of their ten-week stretch at the top with this weeks No.14 (and 2011's No.1 single) "Party Rock Anthem". It also takes the groups tally of total weeks at No.1 to nineteen to become the act with the most weeks spent at No.1 this decade, as last week they surpassed Rihanna’s total of 17 weeks, and LMFAO are now at No.31 on the all-time list of ‘Most Accumulated Weeks at No.1” (1940 to 2012) between Eddie Fisher’s 20 weeks and The Rolling Stones/Johnnie Ray/Judy Garland’s eighteen weeks at the top. Further down the charts, the duo jump up eleven places to No.38 with their latest single "Sorry for Party Rocking", whilst they hold on to the No.50 position with "Champagne Showers", and in the lower fifty they drop back seven places to No.76 with their long running (44 accumulated weeks) "Shots" feat Lil' Jon. Whether its the new ad for XXXX Summer Bright Lager, or the fact that its a great summer song and one of the under rated hits of 2011, Foster the People make a charge for the ARIA chart summit with their single "Pumped Up Kicks", which jumps ten places to No.2 this week (former peak No.7 in November 2011). This is the second highest placing in the world for this track, as it has reached No.1 in Poland and Canada, and it was ranked No.1 for the year on the Billboard US Alternative Singles chart. Another song making a jump towards the No.1 spot is Coldplay's "Paradise", which was the UK No.1 Christmas single and still holds pole position over there now. Here in Australia it jumps from No.6 to No.3 to become the bands second highest charting single behind "Viva la Vida" (No.2, July 2008). Right behind them and holding at No.4 is Snoop Dogg and gang with "Young, Wild and Free", whilst Reece Mastin drops three places to No.5 with his former No.1 single "Good Night". Taio Cruz and Flo Rida's "Hangover" isn't as strong this week, and it drops back three places to No.6. Down two spots from its peak of No.5 to No.7 this week is Guy Sebastian's "Don't Worry Be Happy", and also falling from its peak is One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful", down one place to No.8. Another track down one spot is Flo Rida with "Good Feeling", back to No.9, and re-entering the Top 10 at No.10 (after a dramatic fall last week), is Lloyd and "Dedication to My Ex (Miss that)". NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: Timomatic jumps up five places to No.12 with his debut single "Set it off", and last years No.2 of the year "Somebody That I Used to Know" by Gotye and Kimbra turns back around six places and is at No.15 this week. David Guetta and Nicki Minaj are up three places to a new peak of No.16 with "Turn Me On", and Hot Chelle Rae is up a place to No.17 with "I Like it Like That". Kelly Clarkson could enter the Top 20 next week, but this week she's up three places to No.21 with "What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)". Simple Plan leaps eighteen places to No.22 with their new track "Summer Paradise", and Flo Rida and Sia climb five spots to No.24 with his new song "Wild Ones". Laurent Wery is up sixteen places to No.32 with "Hey Hey Hey", and up fifteen spots to No.35 are Drake and Rihanna with his new single "Take Care". And two former Top 50 songs return this week to new heights, with "International Love" for Pitbull featuring Chris Brown, up seventeen places to a new peak of No.34, and The Black Keys return to the Top 50 at No.44 with "Lonely Boy", up eleven places from last week. There are NO new entries to the Top 100 this week, so let’s take a look at the lower Top 50 movers. "Happy Feet Two" opened in cinemas over the past couple of weeks around Australia, and the first track from the soundtrack, "Bridge of Light" for P!nk is back up thirteen places to No.51 (former peak No.26 where it debuted five weeks ago). 360 and Gossling jump back up ten places to No.56 with "Boys like You". Lana Del Rey's single "Video Games" jumps back up twenty eight places to No.60 (HP-56), and scoring one of only two new peaks in the lower half of the charts is Professor Green feat Emeli Sande and their track "Read All About it", which is up thirteen places to No.65. The other new peak of the week goes to Foster the People and their latest single "Call it What You Want", which is up eight places to No.75, whilst jumping back up nineteen spots is Stan Walker's latest "Light it Up", to No.79. Albums 2011's No.1 album "21" for Adele returns to the top of the ARIA Albums chart this week for a 24th week at the top, making it still the 8th longest running No.1 Album in Australian Album chart history (1965 to 2012), but it is now one week shy of John Farnham’s 1986/87 No.1 album “Whispering Jack”, which accumulated 25 weeks at the top. And with Christmas now over, it means that we say goodbye from the No.1 spot to Michael Buble's seasonal album "Christmas", which this week earns the second biggest fall from the No.1 spot on the albums chart ever, dropping to No.29 this week. The biggest fall from the pinnacle was Kiss in October 1998 with "Psycho Circus", which fell to No.33 in its second week on the charts (it had a 3D cover the first week, and once the limited edition ran out, not everyone wanted to buy the regular version). So it's farewell from the No.1 spot for Michael for now, but I'm sure this album will keep selling for many more Xmas's to come, as it sold enough in 2011 to become the second highest selling album of the year. With four singles from their album "Sorry for Party Rocking" currently in the Top 50 (#1, #14, #38, #50), LMFAO's album jumps back up to it's former peak of No.2 which it achieved in its second week on the ARIA Albums chart back in July of last year. Reece Mastin holds at No.3 for a third week, but back up one place to No.4 is Coldplay's "Mylo Xyloto". Bruno Mars hasn't been in the Top 5 since August last year with his album "Doo Wops and Hooligans", but this week he is back up two places to No.5. Triple J's "Like a Version Volume 7" jumps back up seven places to land at No.6, which was it original debut position nine weeks ago in mid November 2011. And with half of the Top 10 being returnees, we also see Gotye's "Making Mirrors" back up five places to No.7, The Black Keys leap nine places to No.8 with "El Camino", One Direction's "Up All Night" climbs five places to No.9 and returning at No.10 (up one place) is Florence + The Machine's with their "Ceremonials" album. NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: Foster the People not only leap on the singles chart with their two current singles, but their album "Torches" (HP-9) is up twelve places to No.12 this week. Boy & Bear's "Moonfire" returns to the Top 20 at No.16 (up five places), and The Foo Fighters jump six places to No.17 with "Wasting Light". Kimbra and her "Vows" album jump up eight places to No.26, Beyonce's "4" is also up eight spots to No.27, but leaping twenty-four places to No.28 is P!nk's "Greatest Hits... So Far", helped possibly by her new single. This period of the year is swamped with new movies opening at the cinemas, and high profile titles released to DVD and Blu-Ray. With Red Dog being released in mid December, the soundtrack has been slowly re-climbing the charts, and this week it leaps ten places to No.37. The third Alvin & The Chipmunks movie "Chipwrecked" opened on New Years Day, and its soundtrack is the highest new entry of the week, coming in at No.42. The first soundtrack only made it to No.70 in January 2008 (re-entered and made it to No.90 in July when the DVD came out), but the second from 2009 made it to No.15 in late February (it entered at No.39 and took five weeks to climb that high). There is a second soundtrack album debuting this week, entering at No.70 is "Happy Feet Two", the first of which made it all the way to No.4 in early February of 2007. And also jumping back up is the No.1 soundtrack of 2011 (highest placed in EOY Top 100), "Burlesque", which leaps thirty-eights spots to No.57 this week. US producer/DJ/singer Skrillex digitally released his new seven tracks EP "Bangarang" in late December 2011, and this week it debuts at No.44. His previous album "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites" (HP-28) came back into the Top 100 last week, and is at No.50 this week. Also returning to the Top 50 is Christina Perri's "lovestrong" album, up thirty places to No.48 this week. In the lower fifty, we see jumps from Drake, "Take Care" (up nineteen places to No.55), "To the Horses" for Lanie Lane (up eleven places to No.65), and "Hands All Over" by Maroon 5 (up seventeen places to No.73). There are also re-entries from GroupLove, "Never Trust a Happy Song" (HP-21, Sept 2011) at No.56, "Good Things" by Aloe Blacc back in at No.69 (HP-22, June 2011), and at No.79 "Suck it and See" for The Arctic Monkeys (HP-4, June 2011). Mention must also go to the drop and exit of the Christmas titles from the charts, a regular occurrence at this time of the year. I noted Michael Buble’s massive tumble, but other seasonal titles that drop include Justin Bieber’s “Under the Mistletoe”, down from No.20 to No.64 (with the title track dropping out from No.42 on the singles chart). “Glee: The Music – The Christmas Album Volume 2” drops out of the Top 100 from No.26, and Tony Bennett’s “The Classic Christmas Album” departs from No.53.
