14 (RE) M83 - Midnight City (18-16-12-18-25-35-(x15)-14) [7 wks] Nice to see the track returning, it never gets old with me

This track seems to have been inescapable over the last week. The track has been used on several TV chanels to advertise programmes which has boosted the song back to the forefront of what I've been listening to. I also think that whilst it did peak at #12 for me back in September 2011, it deserved to be bigger at the time and as it wasn't a massive hit, now is a good time to rectify this. Could make the top 10 next week. :D

16 (27) David Guetta feat. Sia - Titanium (04-03-03-05-06-07-06-08-09-11-12-17-19-22-24-26-29-31-26-22-27-16) [22 wks] Nice chart run and back on the climb for such a great track. It be nice to challenge the #1 spot in the official chart this week, but its got no chance with SHM around

I'm really happy that 'Titanium' made it to no. 8 in this weeks UK chart - thoroughly deserved. Usually once tracks have been such a massive hit in my chart, once they start dropping down between 21-40 they rarely do a u-turn following any form of belated UK success. Only in cases where the track wasn't that big a hit first time round, I'm willing to let the song gain a second lease of life. So it's actually quite extraordinary really that 'Titanium' is back up to #16 here in its 22nd week inside the top 40. Can this continue climbing next week? :o

20 (--) Goldfrapp - Melancholy Sky (20) [1 wk] Brilliant band seems they have lost their way somehow, singles wise, A&E was pure Goldfrapp

'A&E' was glorious and provided Goldfrapp with a #1 single in my chart. As for 'Melancholy Sky', there doesn't seem to be any music video for the track which will explain why this hasn't done any better in the UK. Maybe once a music video is released (assuming there will be one) the track might generate some more interest with the release of the upcoming album.

Cheers Richard :D

03 (06) Jessie J - Domino (06-06-03) [3 wks] Definitely a grower, doesn't SEEM like the sort of song I expected to be a UK #1 but fair play to her, it's nice to see so many climbers in a row at the top of the chart, all which have steadily grown in popularity rather than being held back and entering with a bang before plummeting a week later...

Why doesn't it seem like a UK #1? As soon as I first heard this in late 2011, I thought straight away that this was a great track and had a gut feeling it'd be a hit in early 2012 following its release. I'm sure if I went back through my posts, I'd find the post I made this suggestion. Looks like Jessie J may well hold onto the #1 spot for a second week which is always welcome as far as I'm concerned.

11 (12) Rihanna - You Da One (Dave Aude Remix) (12-11) [2 wks] Getting closer to breaking that top ten ceiling! Where did California King Bed and Cheers (Drink To That) peak in your chart?

I doubt 'You Da One' will make my top 10 to be honest. Next weeks chart should see a fair few new entries in the higher region of my chart. 'California King Bed' peaked at no. 4 in my chart whilst 'Cheers (Drink To That)' failed to chart because I thought the song was complete garbage!!!

16 (27) David Guetta feat. Sia - Titanium (04-03-03-05-06-07-06-08-09-11-12-17-19-22-24-26-29-31-26-22-27-16) [22 wks] Will it finally get to #1 in it's 23rd/24th week here? :P

It seems very unlikely but I hadn't really put much thought into 'Titanium' climbing back into the top 20 in its 22nd week and completely outstaying the follow up 'Without You' which exits the chart. :o On a seperate note, I think 'Titanium' might defy all the odds and end up being the longest stayer on my chart despite the fact it was never a #1 single (but up against 'Video Games' and 'Jealousy' at their biggest peak, third place was the best this song could get). It's interesting to think that had 'Titanium' not been given a UK release, this could well have dropped out of my chart by now. Odd how a UK release can still boost a single even if it's already been in my chart for 5 months. :o

38 (--) Taio Cruz - Troublemaker (38) [1 wk] Didn't expect to see this here :o Plain and boring for me

I practically wrote this song off on first listen without really paying much attention. I decided to listen to it properly weekend before last and I thought the chorus bit was ok "i throw my hands up..." so I realised I didn't dislike this song as much as I thought I did. Took advantage of a clearly quiet week for new entries and gave it a tiny push into the lower end of my chart. It's bound to drop out again next week though.

3. Well I knew it would be a big hit (i.e. top 5) but I'm surprised that it's climbed all the way to #1, Katy Perry has released superior versions of this song ten times over yet only topped the UK charts on two occasions, hence my comment that I'm surprised this is able to get to the top. Don't get me wrong, it's a great pop song but it's just a shame that the likes of Firework and Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) which were superior versions of the same sound imo stalled at #3 and #4 whilst this gets to #1, but that's the way it goes in the UK charts I guess!

16. This phenomenon is all too frequent in my chart, who can forget the runs for Release Me and Love Song, both peaking at #1, dropping slowly down and then rebounding back to the top when the (unexpected) UK release came! The fact that even after all those months neither song ever got at all boring for me is why I count them both in my all time top ten favourite songs ever! Titanium could be well on its way to my top 100 at this rate :o

31 (--) Jess Mills - End Credits (31) [1 wk] - I love this cover of End Credits, it's nice to see a different, production-lite take on it. And it works really well with Mills' haunting vocals.

3. I quite the fact it's climbed its way to no. 1 in the UK. If 2011 was anything to go off, those singles that climbed to #1 or were an instant OA/OS success became the biggest selling singles. Of course with sales of 57k 'Domino' is gonna have to maintain that level of sales for another 8 weeks if it stands any chance of being a big selling single. As for the Katy Perry comparisons, I think the reason why 'Domino' has done well is because it's practically a new single from a reissued album. 'Firework' and 'Last Friday Night' weren't new singles, both taken from a big(ish) album in the UK. If anything, I'd say Katy Perry's success was extraordinary in that she got 5 top 10 singles off one album. Not many artists have the ability to achieve such a feat.

16. The "yo-yo" chart run. :D If has happened in my chart over the years but very rarely. 'L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.' managed that honour last year but it hadn't been a massive hit for me initially. It peaked at #6 but slowly slipped down the chart then managed to make the top 10 again after 14 weeks or something like that. 'Titanium' had already been such a big hit for me, it's rare that a song that's had such a good initial run ends up repeating that level of success for a second run. In 2010 Hurts made #1 with 'Wonderful Life' but tailed off fairly quick(ish) so when the UK release came along in the Autumn, I decided to re-enter that track to help boost its points in my YTD chart.

Great chart! :D

Cheers Issac :D

05 (08) Kyla La Grange - Heavy Stone (08-05) [2 wks] - A very welcome rise for this Mr Hits! Especially at a busy time of year, but I'm certainly looking forward to what Batidas next enter!

I'd say this week was a "quiet" week in my chart hence the weeks highest new entry being at #17. Thus meaning the BJSC favourites, including my own entry, get some type of boost. Next weeks chart looks set to have another wave of big new entries so the chances of 'Heavy Stone' achieving a new peak is looking unlikely. As for my next BJSC, I have two contenders and neither are like Kyla La Grange. :P

11 (12) Rihanna - You Da One (Dave Aude Remix) (not yet heard that one) (12-11) [2 wks]

For me, it's a big improvement on the album version which I don't particularly think makes a good single. Had it not been for me seeing this version on Dance Nation TV, I'm quite sure this track wouldn't be appearing in my chart. Sometimes remixes can actually bring out the best in the original single. 'I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix) by Lykke Li being a great example of the perfect remix. Another single that did well for me in remix form was 'Green Light (Freemasons Remix)' by Beyonce - in that case, I thought the original was bland beyond belief but Freemasons managed to bring that song to life for me.

16 (27) David Guetta feat. Sia - Titanium (04-03-03-05-06-07-06-08-09-11-12-17-19-22-24-26-29-31-26-22-27-16) [22 wks] - UNUSUAL RESURGENCE ALERT! The UK release seems to be doing wonders, perhaps it could actually achieve it's worldwide peak in the UK? That would be amazing.

Maybe it'll just be a temporary thing. It really all depends on how my new chart pans out. I've not even thought properly about my chart - I just know there's a shortlist of tracks that will be entering. 'Titanium' might defy the odds and climb again, but don't be too disappointed if it drops down again.

30 (--) Washington - Holy Moses (30) [1 wk] - This one has always really quite intrigued me, the subject matter sticks in your mind, for a pop song... tribal aspect? Whatever it is, it's enjoyable.

It's an interesting track. One that I gave a few points to in BJSC. Can't say it's continued growing on me post contest. 'Can't Let You Go' (new at #19) got less points off my in BJSC yet continued growing post-contest hence why that song has entered higher up.

31 (--) Jess Mills - End Credits (31) [1 wk] - I love this cover of End Credits, it's nice to see a different, production-lite take on it. And it works really well with Mills' haunting vocals.

It's a good cover but honestly I don't listen to it and think "this is excellent". Definitely good enough to receive points from the Batidas jury but was never going to set my chart on fire with massive success.

Hello Hits! Voted for Jess Mills this week - have you heard Pixelated People yet? A surefire hit in your chart, methinks :D

08 (11) AlunaGeorge - You Know You Like It (11-08) [2 wks] This fell out for me fairly quickly, but it definitely introduces a distinctive and promising sound - quite bemusing they were nowhere to be found in the Sound of 2012 list and so on

09 (09) The Maccabees - Pelican (09-09) [2 wks] They're not an act I've ever paid much attention to before, so I was really surprised at how good this is - and then the album! Superb production on the whole thing, very reminiscent of Foals' last album but that doesn't stop it being a fantastic way to start the year.

15 (19) Queen Of Hearts - Shoot The Bullet (19-15) [2 wks] Really finding a footing in my affections now, and so rising back up my chart. She was such a vibrant stage personality when I saw her too.

Fantastic chart!

Iirc I heard a bit of 'Pixelated People' a couple of weeks back but not the entire song. It could perform well in my chart - Jess had a fairly big hit last year with 'Live For What I'd Die For' (peaked at #7) and 'Fighting Fire' (peaked at #10).

08 (11) AlunaGeorge - You Know You Like It (11-08) [2 wks] This fell out for me fairly quickly, but it definitely introduces a distinctive and promising sound - quite bemusing they were nowhere to be found in the Sound of 2012 list and so on

Well, the BBC Sound of 2012 was an anticlimax imo. I actually like 'YKYLI' quite a lot - one of fave entries I discovered in the last BJSC.

Ahh, I was comparing The Maccabees (judging purely on 'Pelican') as similar to Vampire Weekend around the time of their debut album. I think it's a great track and would've been great to have seen this go top 40. A shame that rock music is suffering the fact that there are some rock gems around - this being one of them.

15 (19) Queen Of Hearts - Shoot The Bullet (19-15) [2 wks] Really finding a footing in my affections now, and so rising back up my chart. She was such a vibrant stage personality when I saw her too.

I remember you mentioning something about this a while back. Is left to be seen if Queen Of Hearts can score a hit at some point in 2012. 'Shoot The Bullet' is another great track - poduction is ace.

Great chart, as ever :D

Cheers Tom :D

03 (06) Jessie J - Domino (06-06-03) [3 wks] (growing on me like a weed too )

Indeed, it's getting ever closer to the top spot here but it's up against the mighty 'Born To Die' so at the moment I'd say the highest this could peak is #2.

04 (03) Cazzi Opeia - My Heart In 2 (03-04) [2 wks] (holding up well :D)

It deserves to be holding up well. Still by far my entry from the last BJSC. I don't see this falling dramatically either so should remain firmly inside my top 10 when my new chart arrives this weekend.

11 (12) Rihanna - You Da One (Dave Aude Remix) (12-11) [2 wks] (great mix!)

As far as I'm concerned, this is the only version worth listening to. I guess it proves that you can take a rubbish album track and give it some life. The best pop remix I've entered heard (in terms of absolutely crap album version) was 'Green Light' by Beyonce - the Freemasons remix alone got to #2 in my chart. Had that remix never exsisted, there's no way the original 'Green Light' would've made my top 40.

14 (RE) M83 - Midnight City (18-16-12-18-25-35-(x15)-14) [7 wks] (need to rechart this myself)

M83 join a rather exclusive list of singles that benefit from a re-entry. Wynter Gorden achieved this with 'Dirty Talk' last year although it didn't take off in the end and just floating around the top 30 for several weeks. Most successful re-entry in my chart is easily 'Sweet About Me' by Gabriella Cilmi. Made no. 27 in its first run, dropped out a fortnight later, re-entered at no. 14 two months after then rocketed up to #2 the following week where it peaked (kept off #1 by Duffy 'Warwick Avenue').

16 (27) David Guetta feat. Sia - Titanium (04-03-03-05-06-07-06-08-09-11-12-17-19-22-24-26-29-31-26-22-27-16) [22 wks] (nice to see this climb again)

Shocking!!! :o It's rare to see a single that's already been a massive hit in my chart returning to the top 20. 'Titanium' has sort of defied all the odds. Honestly, I would say this track benefitted from a quiet week. My new chart is likely to have quite a few big high new entries so chances are 'Titanium' will drop down again.

19 (--) Renáta Tolvai & Gergo Rácz - Can't Let You Go (19) [1 wk] (it's OK, I prefer the Hungarian version though)

I might have to YouTube the Hungarian version but I do like this.

23 (22) Gotye feat. Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know (01-01-01-02-03-03-06-09-09-07-11-11-13-13-19-17-20-22-23) [19 wks] (I guess you're over this now?)

Not at all. :P I guess it might achieve what 'Titanium' has done this week. With me seeing the video more on the music channels, the song received an airplay boost with the constant bringing the song to my attention. Maybe if Gotye's video started to get loads of airplay it'd have a similar impact. The fact it's only slipped 1 place shows that I'm far from over this song. 'STIUTK' was much bigger in my chart last year than 'Titanium' as shown in my Chart of 2011, but who knows this song could still return to the top 20. I don't see it going as high as the top 10 again though. In that case, I'd say I've moved onto more new music - or at least songs I've only started hearing properly in the last 4 weeks.

29 (21) James Vincent McMorrow - Higher Love (21-29) [2 wks] (really like this, though the original was better )

Yeah, the Stevie Winwood original is a great 80s track. My brother bought the original 'Higher Love' on 7" single at the time so it was a song I remember hearing a fair few times when I was young.

31 (--) Jess Mills - End Credits (31) [1 wk] (my pick of the week, can't wait for her album, have you heard Pixelated People?)

Not in full but I'm sure I heard a clip of the song. 'Life For What I'd Die For' remains Jess Mills' biggest hit to date in my chart.

40 (35) Aura Dione - Geronimo (06-06-08-12-18-24-26-35-40) [9 wks] (oh dea, on it's way out already, do you think it'll ever get a UK release?)

The problem I've had with 'Geronimo' is that there is no music video on YouTube. Sometimes I just go on YouTube to listen to music/watch music videos. When there's a song I like, and I know there's a music video but I can't find it anywhere on YouTube it doesn't really help. That's why this is almost out of the top 40 whilst '212' and 'Nuclear Seasons' are still riding high. Those videos are on YouTube so can watch whenever I feel like it. Repitched audio tracks uploaded to YouTube are horrendous. :(
