January 15, 201213 yr Author http://australian-charts.com/forum.asp Gavin Ryan's Chartifacts (Thanks to Gavin Ryan) Singles After nine weeks of riding the No.1 spot with "Sexy and I Know it" for LMFAO, it dives to No.6 this week (most of their songs tumble this week), to be replaced by a first timer to the No.1 spot, Foster the People, and their track "Pumped Up Kicks", which in it's 27th week on the chart, has taken over half a year to climb to the top. Although it did have an initial chart run back in February of 2011 for three weeks in the Top 100 reaching No.90, it was it’s re-entry in August 2011 that is now a part of the 24 weeks it has taken to climb to No.1, plus it also achieves three times Platinum this week. “Pumped up Kicks” is the 986th No.1 in Australia (1940 to 2012) and the first new No.1 for 2012. Foster the People are the first US based group since Train in March 2010 to hit the No.1 here in Australia (LMFAO are classed as a duo), and the 645th American performed song to hit No.1 in the past 70+ years, whilst the group are the 390th American performer to hit the top of the Australian charts. Australia are also the first act to give the group a National No.1 single (it has reached No.1 on the American and Canadian rock/alternative charts), with the song having peaked at No.3 in both the US and Canadian charts. The song “Pumped up Kicks” is also the 15th No.1 in Australia for the Sony label, and the first for the bands main label Startime Records (other acts on their roster include Calvin Harris, Peter Bjorn & John and Passion Pit). It’s also the first time that the words ‘pumped’ or ‘kicks’ has appeared in a No.1 song, but the 16th ‘up’ to reach the top, the last being November 2007’s “Hook Me Up” by The Veronicas. A potential for the No.1 spot next week is Flo Rida and Sia, who zoom into the Top 10 by leaping twenty-two places from No.24 to No.2 this week with his new track "Wild Ones". It's the highest Flo's been since his last No.1, "Right Round" from March 2009, and it becomes Sia's second Top 10 entry and highest placed single after her No.5 teaming on David Guetta's "Titanium" from late last year. Coldplay stay at No.3 with "Paradise", but another track that leaps into the Top 10 is Australia's Got Talent contestant Timomatic and his debut single "Set it Off" which leaps up eight places to land at No.4 this week, which pushes down one place to No.5 Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa and Bruno Mars with "Young, Wild and Free" after their two weeks at No.4. As mentioned above, LMFAO fall to No.6 with "Sexy and I Know it", and those nine weeks spent at No.1 gives the song an equal placing of No.28 in the list of ‘Longest Running No.1’s in Australia (1940 to 2012)’, with the last song to spend exactly nine weeks at the top being July 2007’s “Big Girls Don’t Cry” by Fergie. Guy Sebastian's "Don't Worry Be Happy" is holding at No.7, and also holding are No.8; "What Makes You Beautiful" for One Direction, and No.9's "Good Feeling" for Flo Rida, whilst halving last weeks position is Reece Mastin, who falls five places to No.10 with his former No.1 "Good Night", but also scores a now three times platinum certification for the song. NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: Simple Plan could be set next week to land inside the Top 10 with the sixth such entry, but this week their new track "Summer Paradise" takes an eleven place leap to No.11, which also helps their album "Get Your Heart On!" to re-enter at No.82. David Guetta and Nicki Minaj climb two places to a new peak of No.14 with "Turn Me On", and joining the Top 20 for the first time at No.18 is Kelly Clarkson's "What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)". Laurent Wery with SwiftKid and Dev jump nine places to No.23 with their collaboration "Hey Hey Hey (Pop another Bottle)", and another teaming, this time Drake and Rihanna, jump up seven places to No.28 with "Take Care". Pitbull and Chris Brown move up four places to No.30 with their track "International Love", and entering the Top 40 for the first time are The Black Keys with "Lonely Boy", up twelve places to No.32, and 360 featuring Gossling with "Boys like You" which leaps twenty-one places to land at No.35 this week. Last year, dance master Skrillex made in-roads to the charts with his EP's "Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites" (HP-56, peaked May 2011 but drops out this week) and "More Monsters & Sprites" (HP-60, peaked July 2011), but this week he scores two new entries to the Top 100, one of those being his first Top 50 entry. He lands the highest new entry of the week by debuting at No.44 with "Bangarang" the title track from his new album/EP which leaps into the album Top 15 this week. From that new set, he also debuts at No.97 with the track "Kyoto". Lower 50: Jumping eleven places to a new peak of No.54 is Professor Green and Emeli Sande with the song "Read all about it". Foster the People's new single "Call it What You Want" is up thirteen places to No.62, and re-entering and scoring a new peak of No.90 is Chiddy Bang and their new track "Ray Charles". Mention also goes to GroupLove, who are back up nineteen places to No.67 with their track "Tongue Tied", which also helps their album "Never Trust a Happy Song" to leap up twenty-six places to No.30. Los Angeles singer/songwriter Andy Grammer enters at No.55 with his debut single "Keep Your Head Up". The Chipmunks and The Chipettes debut at No.59 with their version of last years No.1 single, "Party Rock Anthem" from their new movie, and coming in at No.63 is UK singer James Morrison with his new track "I Won't Let You Go" which has reached No.1 in Austria, and Top 5 in Switzerland, Italy and England. Debuting at No.70 is Jessie J's new track "Laserlight" featuring David Guetta on the mix and right behind her at No.71 is Lana Del Ray with her new track "Born to Die". Lana's other currently charting song "Video Games" is sitting at No.68 this week. Two more debuts back-to-back, firstly at No.87 is Beyonce with "I Was Here", and behind her at No.88 is Jason Mraz with "I Won't Give Up", the first track from his forthcoming fourth album (as yet untitled and no date known). Albums Adele’s album “21” has notched up twenty-five weeks at No.1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, a feat previously achieved by John Farnham's "Whispering Jack" album in 1986 and 1987 (he did it with five runs at the top, this Adele’s fourth run at No.1). Of course Delta Goodrem's debut album notched up more weeks at the top (29 weeks), but for now we will focus on John and Adele's achievement. And next week marks the one-year anniversary of Adele's album hitting the charts, so if she makes it again next week, it'll be a full year in the charts, with half a year on top of them. The entire top four stays stable this week, with LMFAO spending a third non-consecutive week at No.2 with their album "Sorry for Party Rocking". Reece Mastin is at No.3 for a fourth week with his self-titled debut album, and at No.4 again are Coldplay with their "Mylo Xyloto" set. Thanks to them attaining the new No.1 single in the country, Foster the People's album "Torches", leaps to a new peak of No.5 this week, up seven places, and returning them to the Top 10 for the first time since its debut in June 2011 when it entered the charts at No.9. And like its current single, Australia is now the country with the highest National placing for this album, beating the No.7 peak in Canada and the No.8 achieved in the US (it has gone to No.1 on the US Alternative and US Rock charts, but those are specialist charts). The rest of the Top 10 moves slightly, with Bruno Mars down a place to No.6, The Black Keys re-peaking at No.7 with "El Camino" (it debuted at that position back in December of 2011) One Direction are up one place to No.8 with "Up All Night", the Triple,J compilation "Like a Version Volume 7" drops back three places to No.9, and also down three spots is Gotye with his set "Making Mirrors", now at No.10. MOVERS & NEW PEAKS: With 360 scoring his first Top 40 hit this week it helps his album "Falling & Flying" to jump up eleven places to No.11. Leaping thirty places to No.14 is Skrillex and his new set "Bangarang", which is just on download sales alone, with the CD not out until January 27th. Kimbra's album "Vows" has been getting TV advertising, which helps it this week to climb back up seven places to No.19. With the new Alvin & The Chipmunks "Chipwrecked" movie playing around the country, the soundtrack this week leaps nineteen places to No.23. Michael Crawford hit No.40 in late December of 2011 with his best of collection "The Story of My Life - Ultimate Collection", and now this week it scores a new peak of No.29, up fourteen places from last week. GroupLove hit No.21 last September upon initial debut with their latest album, and now this week they're back in the Top 30 at No.30 (up twenty-six places) with that album; "Never Trust a Happy Song". Lower 50: The Kooks leap forty-two places to No.53 with their album "Junk of the Heart". Taylor Swift will be in the country soon for her national tour, and her latest album "Speak Now" rises back up nine places to No.56. Jumping twenty-two places to No.57 are The Arctic Monkeys and their latest album "Suck it and See". Busby Marou re-enter at No.63 with their self-titled album, and also returning to the Top 100 at No.82 is Simple Plan with the album "Get Your Heart On!" helped by their new Top 20 single "Summer Paradise".
