March 14, 201213 yr FLOP! I was expecting top 3 at the very least. I was actually expecting number 1, considering mother's day etc... But #7? Terrible. Seven Nation Army is a travesty - end of. And the post below saying SyCo got it right with Olly Murs... really? OK, he sells records - but the actual material is absolute junk - his last single sounds like a song Shakin Stevens would've turned down in 1981 - ATROCIOUS.But if Olly is selling surely SyCo DID get it right with him, regardless of if you like his music or not? There's a reason he's still selling beyond his debut album and it's because he and his music appeal to an audience and they have definitely got it right with him. They've given him original songs! Not subjected him to an album of poorly "re done" shitty covers. I should hope so, it can't be any worse :P Nope, the ony song he's featured on I've actually liked is a song by Selah Sue (a Belgian singer) called Please Please, and Forget You is good when someone else sings it :PYou missed off 'Lil Star' with Kelis! :o But Apart from that one song, I am with you completely :puke:
March 14, 201213 yr Bad news for Marcus. Every previous runner up went Top 3 with their debut, and of course not all of them had long lasting careers despite a great start. Syco don't have a habit of being lenient/patient... [#1]2005: G4 - G4 [#2] 2006: Andy Abraham - The Impossible Dream [#1] 2007: Ray Quinn - Doing It My Way [#3] 2008: Rhydian - Rhydian [#1] 2009: JLS - JLS [#2] 2010: Olly Murs - Olly Murs [#3] 2011: Rebecca Ferguson - Heaven [Midweek #7] 2012: Marcus Collins - Marcus Collins
March 14, 201213 yr Its not a great start, but he was only 600 sales off number 6 at the start of the day so I expect it to pick up especially on Saturday. Should make top 6 definately. Seven Nation Army was an ok cover, Im not judging it by the original im just taking it as a different interpretation of it. Im hearing White Stripes fans complaining over the cover but funnily the band are probably very happy cos they obviously had to give their permission for Marcus to use it and 2) they are making money out of Marcus' version, a new interest in their version, and the airplay. Ching Ching for White Stripes! P.s Music Week says that Marcus' version sold double the amount that the original sold on its first week...Maybe its plausible that people prefer Marcus' version after all Edited March 14, 201213 yr by jay727
March 15, 201213 yr P.s Music Week says that Marcus' version sold double the amount that the original sold on its first week...Maybe its plausible that people prefer Marcus' version after all A 2003 release vs a 2012 release just isn't comparable, sales wise, format wise etc.
March 18, 201213 yr I brought the album this week - it's surprisingly good considering how quickly it was turned around, it's got a nice little Cee-Lo Green-y vibe to it, very upbeat all the way through too! I love 'Feel Like I Feel', 'Tightrope' and 'Don't Surrender' at the moment. Don't think that speed of it being made even matters TBH when the music comes into it...but I guess no one's happy at the end of the day really. They moan when X Factor graduates don't release until the following autumn and they moan when they release so soon after their series ended...having Gary Barlow behind him as exec producer for the album has helped because he certainly knows what niche Marcus fills in.
March 18, 201213 yr You missed off 'Lil Star' with Kelis! :o But Apart from that one song, I am with you completely :puke: God yes, her best song :o Forgot he was on that actually!
March 18, 201213 yr I'm glad his album hasnt done that well. He's just dull. Doesnt interest me in the slightest.
April 22, 201213 yr a top 10 single and a top 10 album is a good start for him. Any other artist breaking onto the music scene would snap your hand off for that achievement after 3 months. If Mercy is picked up by radio 1 or capital then it'll do well and push album sales up

April 23, 201213 yr You can't seriously judge one artist with another just because they were on X Factor. Marcus is doing his own thing. He went with a cover version that he must have known would have been panned by WS fans rather than an original that the other runners up went for. He's just a normal fella doing his own thing and like i said a top 10 single and album straight after entering the music industry properly is a good achievement.
